Donatello has been traded from his native NY Yankees to join the Oakland Athletics for the remainder of this season, then he will be a free agent.

Baseball has always been my favorite sport, and I've always wanted to make a custom baseball TMNT figure of Donatello representing the Oakland Athletics (my favorite team) but never got around to it until now. It was pretty simple, just used Grandslammin' Raph as the base figure then swapped the head with original '88 Donatello head and sliced Raph's hat off and hollowed it out on the bottom so it can be removable and placed on Donatello's head. I had to remove the "action" feature because it was difficult to put it back after splitting the body in half for the head swap, so I had to patch up the slot for it, then removed the T and R logos from the uniform and repainted everything except the Donatello head (I was lucky to find a close enough paint match for the skin/bandana because I wanted to keep the Donatello head intact looking like it came direct from the '88 figure which it did). Repainted the bat and baseballs, baseball glove didn't need repaint. I've always envisioned '88 Donatello wearing an Oakland A's hat which is why I did the head swap rather than just turnin Grandslammin' Raph's head into Donatello. I am quite pleased with how this turned out.

Awesome! Would have gone with an old school grey underbrim on the hat, though. Lol

I know nothing about baseball, but I think that looks terrific. The whole thing looks very natural.

That's a lot of fun. I really like that you swapped out his head and made the hat removeable. That's an extra step you really didn't have to take, but it makes the figure feel more authentic.

You matched Don's skin tone really well, too. I imagine that might have actually been the trickiest part.

Thanks! Haha yea I know what you mean, I think the current underbrim is black, I just went with yelllow cause I figured it would stand out more on a figure.

Love it, dude!

Thanks man!

Thanks! I agree it looks natural the colors contrast well with Don's darker skin tone, I've had this idea for a while and finally made it a reality.

Thanks very much!

Thanks man! Yea I didn't want to just repaint Raph's head and call it Don, I did the swap because '88 Don has always been my favorite of the 4 originals, and his angry facial expression was perfect for this project. Making the hat removable was probably the most challenging part of this project, but it was worth it. And yes the skin tone was a bit tricky, I thought I was gonna have to mix paints to get the right color, but luckily I found the perfect match and made it easy on myself.

It's a very nice!

Thanks man!

That's exactly how I feel, on both counts! :)

Hey TurtleManiac, when you paste the embed code from Flickr into a post here at the forum, if you find the place in the code where the first url code ends ([/url]) and the next one begins ([url=blahblahblah), place your cursor between the two and hit enter; it'll place the title and your name below the photo rather than to the side of it.

On the other hand, perhaps you're more levelheaded than me and such things don't bother you. :)

Thanks for the kind words! It seems to only be on the side of the vertical photos, the horizontal ones have the words underneath.

Ideally I would like to just post the pics by themselves without any additional text under it. Any one know how to do this with flickr? Is there a better site to use for posting pics or is there anyway to post a pic directly onto a thread without having to go through another site and have text underneath it?

Photobucket & Imgur are pretty good. I use tinypic to share pics here usually, but I dunno if you can upload albums & stuff. I just use it to post one-offs & that sort of thing.

Flickr is the best where resolution is concerned. I'll PM ya directions for eliminating the text.

Cool thanks, I may check out those sites as an alternative, but all my albums are already saved onto flickr, so I suppose just removing the blue letters would be ideal.

Ha, man, that's awesome.

Thanks dude!

Resolution is the key, I use my iphone to take all the pics and they do look good on flickr. Thanks for those directions, it'll definitely come in handy next time I post pics.

Thanks for the kind words Raven! Sometimes painting can be very time consuming but the end result makes it all worthwhile.
