Looks like there is a new PS3 (http://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16879221336), 360 (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=9305400) and 3DS (http://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16878114421) game coming out called Danger of the Ooze by Activision.

Can't find any info or pictures yet.

It's retail, so I'm assuming it's not a follow-up to Out of the Shadows. A second cartoon-based game? Something else? I dunno... guess Activision somehow got a license extension. I hope it's not Magic Pockets again, though D:

I personally would not consider it good. Better than the previous game? Yes. Good? Hardly.

A third 3DS turtles game?! Sweet.

Considering what consoles it's for, my guess is a second Nickelodeon game. It's not at all uncommon for kids cartoons to get multiple games.

EDIT________
Maybe it's based on the mutagen fallout arc (season?), and it'll have tons of mutants.

Let's not forget the Mobile game that also came out recently, Which was also based on the movie.

I'm willing to bet that this new game will be based on the new Movie and using the new TMNT designs. Even though the Mobile and 3DS game uses the Movie designs, the stories in them has nothing to do with the movie itself.

But if its not and based on the Nick series, Then I can see why its called Danger of the Ooze. It'll be the Turtles fighting a series of Mutants scattered all over NYC, after those canisters were accidentally scattered all over the place.

By using PS3, 360 and 3DS, they can reach tons of people while really only making two versions of the game. PS4 and XBox One would cost more money. Wii has hardware limitations and Wii U is just weird. 3DS has limitations, too, compared to PS3 and 360, but at least it's current and infinity people own them.

That's all why I figure it's Nickelodeon-based game.

I know I'm gonna buy it and play it, regardless, because I'm a sucker for TMNT and beat 'em ups. But I would rather it be a new thing, like the movie game was, than to be a sequel to the Nick game. But the title fits the last season pretty well...

Mmm...

Looks to be yet another trashy, run-of-the-mill children's licensed game,no different from the likes of Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures or what have you.

A crying shame, the TMNT games could have truly not only copied their ancestors, but improved upon them as well, but instead they choose to go down this route...

My vision of a TMNT game for the new millennium is a game that takes the classics and improves upon them, instead of merely aping them.

* The playable character roster would be expanded beyond just the Turtles. Each character would have unique movesets and statistics. For example, April O' Neil would rely on her psychokinetic abilities to fight, lifting and throwing enemies aside as well as breaking their brains with psychic forces. Metalhead would be the walking arsenal, using his array of cannons and tools to fend off his enemies. Leatherhead would be the slow-yet-strong bruiser of the group, able to access a crocodilian rage to overcome the enemy. Karai? She'd totally have a stance system allowing her to change between woman and serpent. Slash could just curl up and roll through the opposition, or smash them with a club. Casey Jones would pull out all his sporting goods to take on the enemies. Splinter could have the abilities of all four Turtles but overall be much weaker.
* Levels will be multi-layered and contain several alternate paths, potentially allowing players to go through the level much faster than they normally would. Perhaps the game would even have branching storyline paths, allowing the player to choose which levels to go to?
* A variety of enemies, rather than just types of Foot and Mouser.

According to Activision, TMNT: Danger of the Ooze blends classic 2D fighting and platforming with the 3D art direction of the TV show. Here is how Activision sets up the story.

"The game quickly heats up as Shredder, Tiger Claw, and a new army of mutants threaten the streets of New York, forcing Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo to take action into their own hands."

Activision says the unique thing about TMNT: Danger of the Ooze is its "vast, interconnected, non-linear game world," which will reward players for exploration and "creative thinking." Players will have powers, upgrades, and equipment at their disposal as they move through New York, battling bosses.

TMNT: Danger of the Ooze doesn't lock you into one of the four hero turtles, either. Players can freely swap between them, and each has his own unique play strengths and skills. Overall, Activision says combat is "fast-paced," and will feature martial arts-style attacks with combos, counters, and finishers. But if that's not your style, the game also lets you perform stealth-based attacks.

The Turtles are up to their shells in trouble in this latest game for Xbox 360 based on their newest movie. Taking on Shredder and his mutant allies, Rahzar and Tokka, the famous green heroes in a half shell must capture and destroy the dangerous ooze to make the world safe again for Turtles, humans, and pizza.

They did the Regular Show 3DS game. Which I still haven't beaten, cause it's effing hard.

This is kinda the last type of game you'd need to advertise. It's like how the cartoon gets tiny volume releases with no HD. They'll make enough sales purely because kids see it on the shelf. Adults who care will find out on their own.

I can confirm wayforward is a great developer, and they usually make amazing games, they do have a few stinkers though. They are the only good news to this announcement, other than that this looks like a pretty rushed game and not a lot of information about it.

How many games has Activision done since they got the license? I read this is their third 3DS game, I didn't even know about the first one and the movie game I just found out by chance when browsing the eshop, I never read anything about it online. Activision seems to be treating the franchise worse than Ubisoft did. And I only write seems since I haven't played any of the Activision games but based on fan reaction its pretty much fact.

The sad thing is that Out of the Shadows plays like a beta version of a game that would be really good if polished. I think they just set a release date and held to it despite needing more development time, and the game suffered.

Have in mind people, we haven't seen too much of this and it's about a month out. First bad sign. It's releasing for $40. Second bad sign (even though that's good for us all). The third season of the tv show was optioned for cancellation at one point. That's a third bad sign, considering they probably didn't want to sink any money into it. And the final bad sign, no new gen release. If it was a top draw title, it would have definitely been released on those.
With all this being said, I hope I am very very wrong.

Those almost seem like a plus at this point in the franchise, as it means they would be morelikely to make a nice solid oldschool style game instead of attempting Assassin's Creed but TMNT or whatever the publisher demands for a AAA title would be. And of course after demanding that, the publisher would then also demand it be out by Christmas, ending any possibility of it getting proper dev time to be good.

But yeah I'm still in the "I want this to be good but I'll believe it when I see it" camp, but Wayforward doing it makes me somewhat more on the hopeful side.

Yeah, I'm pretty suspicious of that one. Because I'm a huge nerd, I just ran the numbers on season 1 and season 2's ratings up to Karai's Vendetta (using Wikipedia's numbers). The mean average of viewers was 2.84m in season 1 vs 2.5m in season 2 (so far).

It's dropped off a bit, but that doesn't seem anywhere near "considering cancellation" numbers.

Wow, this looks like it could be Turtles in Time good. Hopefully even better.:tgrin:

I'm also excited they get to be 'actual ninjas' using stealth, it also seems quite balanced with exploration, stealth, fighting, countering, platforming (Hopefully not as repetitive as TMNT) and individual rewards & upgrades. Sure it will be kiddied up a bit after all it is nick but the mechanics of this game and potential gameplay look very promising.

I'm not put off that it isn't available on the next Gens, Xbox 360 and PS3 are still very worthy and it's looking great graphically so far on them. Nor am I put of by the price, it's not OOTS cheap, Xbox 360 games and Ps3 games have gotten cheaper anyway due to they are now second tier behind Ps4 and Xbox One but they still make good games. Besides, as Cryomancer mentioned before PS4 and Xbox One's realism aren't really necessary for a cartoon based game that already looks crisp and clear on the PS3 and Xbox 360. It also comes out a couple of months before Christmas and makes for an affordable present for kids plus it's instantly affordable for us adults straight away. So there's a few reasons to not be put of by the price.

All that matters to me is the actual gameplay and story which so far is looking damn good. The fact that they are using the 'real voice actors' is gravy. This little hint here also looks promising.

Obviously the game is grounded in the Nick series universe, but will there be any elements borrowed from other incarnations of the Turtles?

Shhhhh! Those are secret!

Who knows maybe we might even get the original arcade game and/or Turtles in Time as a secret bonus. But even if we don't, this game could well be the game we've all been waiting for.

I've got friends and random acquaintances in a lot of studios, and I here stuff all the time. Believe it or not, but this type of talk goes on and on and on, and who knows what things get stretched or not. I just know that some of these guys like to be in the know about a lot of this stuff But who knows, maybe one is tryin to outdo the other with their stories. I simply stated (in my original post) what I had heard. It makes no sense to prove that right or wrong. There's no gain. It's just like you saying that you saw something, and I come along and say,"no you didn't!" what the hell do I know.
I hate going to a majority of boards on the net because it always turns into a ****measuring contest. So anybody that wants to win that contest, fine you win. I don't care. It just makes me sad because I was just sharing. I ain't here to make up lies and be the cool guy on a stupid web board.

Very understandable. It didn't happen, so good for all of us. A lot of successful series have suddenly been cut off because these companies/corporations feel like they won't make the maximum dollar they think they can, therefore they get overly greedy and halt projects all of the time. The show can have record views, but believe me, if they can't make way more than they did the last year, they get all scared and pull the plug. There's a lot of greedy people at the top that don't give a **** about who likes what. They just want to get (overly) paid, and if they don't the way they want to, the axe comes down unfortunately.
So don't be shocked if in fact (god forbid) the series does end abruptly. Look how it's happened in the past.

Bry
09-19-2014, 08:19 AM
I mean... not doubting you heard it from someone. I do doubt that it was ever true, but people spread rumours and speculation like wildfire, especially if they're in a tight-knit kind of community/profession. Entirely possible someone made it up or misinterpreted something and it spread from there.

Glad it either wasn't true or didn't happen. And again - ratings haven't really dropped much and AFAIK toy/merch sales are still strong, so I can't imagine why they'd even consider cancelling the show at this point. I know that these decisions are often made for short-sighted and ridiculous reasons, but I'd really hope the folks at Nick would be smarter than that. And I think they are.

Powder
09-19-2014, 03:32 PM
I can confirm it's not true, I spoke to Brandon [Auman] about it. He's already deep in scripting season 4 (wow, already!) & said this was never a factor. So we have nothing to worry about, thankfully! Some have been concerned with the fact that Nick is releasing episodes online in advance, which hurts TV ratings (the same thing that was the death of Korra, I've read) but I suppose that's not something we need to get up in arms about, either.

In the words of Mikey, in Secret Of The Ooze, "Jeez, give a guy a heart attack!". :tlol:

I want to know about the differences between platforms. Is the 3DS version the same as the console version, just with handheld-tier graphics? If so I'm 100% okay with that as I'm trying to retire my ps3 for new games (i'm of course keeping it for some 'retro' gaming down the road)

The fact that they are relasing it on 360 ps3 and 3ds instead of pc ps4 and one like all big AAA games proves how bad the game will be. Why they release it on those 3 old and outdated platforms instead of the 3 curreent major ones? How the well will i play it? I only have PC and there is no any reason to buy a old gen console just to play my favorite game due to not being released on my platform of choise. Who the hell at activision made the decision to not release it on pc ps4 and one? We must make a boycot campgain and demand pc and current gen console versions . Boycot them until they decidet to do it.

I'm getting mixed messages from this one.

On one hand, it's an open-ended sidescroller based around exploration, which sounds like it has potential and is fairly unique to the TMNT franchise. And it's being developed by WayForward, who made some pretty good games in the sidescroller genre, like Contra 4 and Aliens: Infestation.

On the other, it's only two and a half weeks until release and this thing still doesn't even have a trailer yet. Not even one of those gameplay-less teasers that serves to simply announce a game's presence. That and it's published by Activision, who treats all of its licensed properties (not named Transformers or Spider-Man) like a prison warden treats POWs. I should know, I was stupid enough to buy 007 Legends on release.

According to Redbox.com, this will be available to rent from them (http://www.redbox.com/games/comingsoon) on Oct. 28 for Xbox 360. Unless this gets surprisingly good reviews, that's probably the method I'll use to check it out. If it truly is horrid, it'll be for only $2 a day.

Fingers crossed though! Hope this turns out at least decent. We could really use a good turtles game these days.

Why they release it on those 3 old and outdated platforms instead of the 3 curreent major ones?
They're not quite outdated release-wise, since they're still getting more releases than current gen systems. Technology-wise, though, yes. Although, the 3DS is current gen for handhelds so that's a moot point.

How the well will i play it?
What?

I only have PC and there is no any reason to buy a old gen console just to play my favorite game due to not being released on my platform of choise.
How is it your favorite game if it hasn't been released yet?

We must make a boycot campgain and demand pc and current gen console versions . Boycot them until they decidet to do it.
Boycotting a game that you can't play anyway?

Also boycotting a f**king video game over something this trivial is one of them most idiotic things ever. The word boycott has lost all meaning to me specifically because of bullcrap like this.

Yeah, why release on the systems that have a bigger install base when you can release on the new generation when you will not use the power it provides and have less potential buyers just because...

Seriously, this is the stupidiest thing I've read all week, this is not an AAA game, why should you compare it with one? And since when does the system the game is released dictates is quality? The PS2 still has better games then anything released on PS3/PS4/360/ONE/PC. Besides, there's pleanty of good games coming to the last generation.

You have a lot more worthy games in the last generation systems then you have on the new one, and it will take at least one more year to have worthy games on it.

Oh and since when is the 3DS outdated? It's still the best selling system out there right now, and the ONE is not exactly selling like hot cakes anyway.

But it's still published by Activision though, and with hardly any publicity so far.

That's true but this one is actually being made by competente people so it has the potential to be actually good, also, it has no publicity because Activision are idiots and they only care about COD and WOW, besides, just because they don't talk about it doesn't mean the game sucks, it might sell badly because of it but it won't reduce it's quality.

*sigh*

1. Just because the PS360 has more units sold overall doesn't mean it has the bigger base. For the most part this year, PS4/X1 titles have consistently outsold their last-gen brethren. The biggest cross-gen titles have sold nearly 50% on PS4 alone, so the whole idea of last-gen having the bigger base is bunk.

2. Most of the focus on gaming development is on current-gen systems. PS4 continues to dominate the sales charts and developers are following the trend. The only games being made for last gen will be CoD, sports titles, quirky jrpgs, and filler licensed games...like this.

3. Wayforward may be a competent developer, but Activision still calls the shots. Look no further than High Moon. Two spectacular Transformers games, their funding got cut in the middle of development of Deadpool, and now they're stuck developing CoD DLC. Wayforward may not get sucked into the CoD machine, but I don't have much confidence in their product...mainly because who's holding the purse strings.

This game is for children. Kids' games always linger on last-gen systems because young children aren't early adopters of new hardware. For kids, last-gen is the bigger base. Yeah, they could go current-gen, too, but how many people would appreciate it? Not enough to make it worth doing.

And this game doesn't need heavy promotion. It just needs to be on the shelves where kids can see it, like Ninja Turtles fruit snacks. I'm sure we'll see some TV spots during the cartoon, but there's little reason to start now. Why pay for more promotions just to front-load sales that you're gonna get anyway? So you can score bigger pre-orders and first-week sales, and get covered on gaming blogs that 8-year-olds don't read?

80+ Million PS3 units sold against 10+ Million PS4, still not worth it to invest on the new generation for small games like this one, this is a game for kids, only techheads buys new systems during their first 2 years on the market, give it a little time and you'll start to see shovelware in the new generation too.

Wayforward doesn't need big budgets to make good games, I'll bet that this one will have less then half the budget that OOTS got and will be hundreds of times better.

Wayforward is unlikely to get absorbed into Activision. Activision just owns the rights to TMNT games right now don't they? Perhaps they hired Wayforward because they knew they were likely to make a half decent game.

Wayforward is pushing into the PC market, seemingly successfully, with their original IPs and some of their licensed games too. They have two Shantae games on the way, one of which was entirely funded by kickstarter, bypassing publisher money altogether. So they are doing fine as their own company right now, probably more so than they ever have before even.

The important thing to keep in mind, mates, is that there's a fine line between making a prediction based on evidence and past events... and insisting that those events will occur. I'm seeing a lot of the latter. You can't know what will happen. You can only make a guess.

it's only $30 for the 3ds version. I say, take a leap of faith! The previous two 3ds games, while not excellent, I still feel were worth at least $20 of playtime for me. This one has heightened expectations thanks to a more reputable dev team, so why not just spend a little more and take a chance on it?

Or, yes, wait for reviews and decide after that. :) But I like being able to dive into a game on release day and experience it alongside everyone else for the first time. Not always, but when I can.

Even all of that aside, I'm not just a video game fan, but a TMNT fan. Even if the game is middling, I'm willing to endure some rough gameplay to experience more games with some of my favorite characters. Come on, Tiger Claw is in this game! That has to count for something :D

I'm not gonna lie i was a little disappointed when this game was first announced but now I'm sort of looking forward to trying it out. The thing I think it's important to remember going in is that this game is not trying to be a triple a release that's the end all be all of turtle gaming experiences. It just wants to be a fun game for fans of the new cartoon that older fans might get some enjoyment out of as well. It's not the big ground breaking title I was hoping for but hopefully it can be what duck tales remastered was. An awesomely nostalgic update of a classic and a fun way to kill an afternoon.

Wow. So disheartening. Also why the flip is there an FAQ for a game that's not even out yet? The only thing I can think of is that these are the things the testers asked about.

This isn't like WayForward at all. Don't get me wrong... they've released a few things that I didn't think were up to snuff... but never anything fundamentally broken.

Sadder thing is, I'll still get it! Oh, and even sadder-er thing is, this game will never get patched because it's such a small title. And even if it is, it will only be once, therefore leaving other problems that might arise untouched.

The saddest thing of all is how developers are screwing over this game's target demographic. They pretend to cater to kids, but don't put in enough elbow grease.

Stores usually received shipments earlier then the street date to be sure they are available for release, some people can get their hands on them before that if they work/know someone there. Also some small stores don't care about release dates and put the games on sale as soon as they get them, and being a small release there's no real pressure from the publishers in assuring the street date.

Also different coutries have different relese dates.

Okay, Slash makes a one-minute cameo. I need this game. :P (Though, I notice his character model still has Donnie and Mikey's masks on his arm. Whoops. XD)

On another note, the continuity for this is a bit strange, since Tiger Claw's present with the eye patch and everything, but Karai isn't locked up. I...guess she escaped to warn the Turtles about Newtie's device thing, but was captured immediately after? Yeaaaaaaah.

On another, another note, is this the first explicit reference we've gotten to Newtie being an alien rather than a mutant? Would make sense what with the obvious bounty hunter devices he's always packing and the different language he speaks. He also mentions "Salamandrian" tech. Could that be his race? Or is it just another race he's dealt with? That's a pretty interesting nugget to be dropping in a budget kid's video game. Or maybe I'm overthinking things. XD

LeoRaph
10-27-2014, 07:20 AM
Alright, I played it a fair bit last night where I've just received the chi upgrade from Slash and it is still pretty damn good.

I'm sure you have all seen the video walkthroughs so I don't think I can shed that much more light on it. But from a playing point of view it is what it is, it is a BUDGET video game primarily for kids. It does have a huge 80's side scrolling adventure feel to it complete with music and sound effects for old skool players, which I like but it does have flaws. The action can ‘seem’ repetitive and if you were to button mash blindly it would be but if you use your moves and tools wisely it makes you find more creative ways of fighting. I’m only 15% through the game so I’m yet to find the majority of upgrades but what I’ve found so far give a nice variety of getting through the game which I think ‘makes it’ fun. I look forward to mixing things up even more once I find them all.

One thing though that is a pain is how small the map is, it’s a maze like game so it can get a little disorienting every now and then so you would think it wouldn’t have hurt to have a proper zoom feature like most modern games. Another thing that is annoying is there is no meter for Bosses. You basically just fight till they’re defeated.... I have no idea why they would remove this. Kids game or not...:tgrumble:

I’m still yet to run into the major glitches listed on the Activision website and if they are game breaking I HOPE Activision have enough RESPECT towards players to do a patch but apart from my gripes I think it IS worth it. It definitely isn’t a cake walk... having several Krang droids shooting at you from all directions can quickly drain your energy ....and your patience ...so it does challenge you to find more creative ways of doing things which is it's own reward.

I think for an adult gamer something like the Arkham games would be ideal for TMNT and hopefully one day we will get it but for what the gameplay is, with the story, voice acting, smooth cgi, funky soundtrack and little easter eggs scattered in the game give it a chance of being in the Top 3 TMNT games. If I were to find a comparison other than the 1st NES Game, I'd say it kind of reminds me of the old Shinobis, MegaMans, Metroid (duh) etc...you know platform/action games before they became 3rd person sandboxes but with more modern tools and moves at your disposal. Always good when a Game with the word Ninja in it actually lets you be a Ninja :twink: .

I’m sure once the game is released ‘officially’ there will opposing opinions but for me being both a fan of old skool action/platform games and TMNT I’m more than happy with this game.

Hello all,

Longtime lurker who has finally joined the forum.

Anyway, I played this game for two hours last night and maybe I'm no longer allowed to call myself a "gamer," but I find this game to be difficult. I get to the first boss fight (Rahzar) but I have only one turtle at that point and I'm immediately killed. It's really annoying that despite saving the game before the boss fight that you start right back in the sewers. Other than that, this is my only gripe so far. Voice work is great and it feels like a good old-school platformer (a good thing in this 33 year old's opinion).

I remember seeing an interview with WayForward where he indirectly suggested that the 3DS version would have parity in terms of content with the console versions.

I since followed up and WayForward referred me to Activision as the publisher who stonewalled me.

I prefer the handheld version because I am more likely to play it, but I don't want a pared down experience. Does anyone have any insight?

And if it actually were coming out two weeks later than the other versions (but apparently not according to your sightings), yes it could very well be indicative of needing a longer production time either in manufacturing or development even by just a few days, how can you say 'that's not how it works' yes, it can work that way we see it happen several times a year with staggered release dates on games, especially smaller games.

Where can i boycot Way forward for not release it on pc? What all of us who dont have 360 ps3 and 3ds will do? Buying a old gen console is not worth it anymore evry gamer who want to buy a new enternaiment system will either buy a new gen console or a powerful gaming pc but no one will buy a old gen console. By release it only there they destroy the game sales and limit the audience that can play it.

I just got the 3ds version last night and played some of it. The voiceovers and cinemas are the same, but the in game cut scenes and gameplay don't look as good as it does on the 360/PS3 and the music doesn't sound as good either. The big plus is having the map on the touchscreen and being able to switch turtles on there too.

I played the PS3 version quite a bit yesterday and I'm loving it because it kind of reminds me of the older games from when I was a kid. I do find it odd how it's only a one player game. Almost every turtle game that came out in existence was 2 or 4 players.

Heads up, Target is going to be doing a buy two get one free deal on ALL video games between the 9th & 15th, so y'all should hold out for this. Assuming you've not got any, you could snag all 3 modern TMNT games in one fell swoop (which may very well be what I do, though I do need Super Mario 3D World, yet...).

I'm sorry but he's right, that's not how it works, they don't work on the game until the day before it's released, that part of the work is finished months before that, the reason some systems have different release days then others can be for licensing issues, markething reasons or for plain exclusivity contracts. Also the game is already out for the 3DS in some countries already, mine included.

I've played most of it now. It's a solid game, but sadly no where near the masterpiece that comes to mind when you hear TMNT, Wayforward, and Metroid style all next to each other. They have obviously spent a lot of time on getting details from the show all over the game which is kind of nice I suppose. There are a few other less obvious references to older TMNT stuff too here and there, the title screen being the most obvious one.

Combat and movement are good, but not exactly great. There are a LOT of enemies on tiny platforms or the edge of platforms and stuff which is sort of annoying. You are allowed to overlap with enemies to some degree without damage but it's a bit hit or miss. You need to learn the shell kick moves to really be any good at all at the combat, lots of the game hinges on you doing them. They're not particularly hard or anything, but it can get tedious. The jump is pretty high and long and you get a double jump pretty quickly so that's good.

At first I had some trouble keeping alive and got stuck into a fairly lame situation where I only had Mikey and had to complete a new area with him solo basically. Every time he'd die, I was sent back two areas, so I had to get all the way back to the new one. This of course was my own fault, but it was tough for awhile. This gets less terrible over the course of the game as you get health increases and boxes to store pizzas in and the ability to see which room the captured turtles are in on the map. Just be careful early on or you might have to Mikey solo TCRI like I did. Probably would be better off quitting and reloading your save if you end up in a situation like that.

This paragraph includes spoilers, I guess? It's not exactly heavy stuff. Not sure if I forgot something from the show, but both Shredder and the Kraang seem to be using Mousers, minor complaint. Newtralizer is also working with Shredder and Slash gives you info about it. Those seem slightly off to my understanding of the various character interactions post season 2 but I could very well be forgetting things. Some other characters cameo in the backgrounds of various areas also. Rahzar, Stockman, Tiger Claw, and Shredder are bosses. April, Karai, and Casey give you new moves. Splinter can be talked to for hints and does some fighting at one point.

Music is good, graphics are pretty close to the show, controls are mostly solid. I have no very strong complaints about the game other than it's not as amazing as it could have been, basically.

So... have there been any real reviews of this yet? TMNT games release with very little fanfare these days

I haven't seen any as of yet and it's been almost a week...so yeah TMNT not getting the love it deserves :tgrumble:

But for what it's worth, I give it a solid 8/10, it loses a point for being short and half a point each for no boss meter and no close up zoom on the map. I never ran into any of the glitches that the Activision site has listed apart from a couple of random game freezes which happens with Arkham and so many other games so I'm lucky in those terms but the big big winner for me is that the game play is hella fun, you actually 'feel' like a ninja and with all the upgrades & abilities you get as the game progresses it only makes it better.

I'm 89% complete now where I've finished it a couple of times but after I get 100% I'd definitely play it all over again just simply because it's that fun. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but for old skool gamers, platform lovers and TMNT fans it should do quite well.

Yeah, you have no idea how bigger the Transformers franchise is then the TMNT, not to mention how ambitious that game was. Also the Korra game was made from devs that are on an entire different level from Wayforward, and who right now are one of the devs with a more stellar track record out there having 2 of the top rated games on metacritic under their belt.

Seems like it's going to be a you either like it or you don't type thing.

Personally, I don't see how the execution of fighting is that difficult (being a MK player helps with the smoothness of execution of the shellkickers which ironically plays out like a finishing move :twink:) nor do I see how the game play is tedious, there are at least 10 different ways to go about getting through your enemies plus you adapt specifically to the type of level and enemy. You can also avoid fighting if need be...cough cough...butt cannon apes. I do agree that the lip syncing is bad but I think people are being a little too harsh on the acting. They all seemed fine to me.

Again, it's NO Arkham but for what it is, you know a 2D Kid's game it's a fun game that's more ninja like than it's ever been. In many ways it feels like a hybrid of Mega Man and Shinobi in terms of game play which is a win for me 2D wise. I think we need to be honest with ourselves Nick is NEVER going to do a proper stealthy TMNT game, if we want a more in depth gritty 3D Sandbox TMNT Game with Stealth and Good Fighting we're going to have to wait till it goes to a better network and they finally aim towards the original intended audience in the first place or they just do what DC and Marvel do and have lighter kids shows and darker mature shows with relevant games each.

Well I got this game for 3DS & I'm not too far into it yet but my opinion so far is a semi-optimistic MEH. The voice acting is pretty awesome, the graphics are rad for the most part, the music is cool, aesthetically it's quite pleasing. The controls are ass, though. Very stiff, with poor hit detection & reaction time. Plays kinda like a crappy licensed NES game, in that respect. I mean, it's not so bad when you get used to them, but you shouldn't have to get used to them. I think the most fatal flaw with this game is that there is no upward slash attack. I can't tell you how many times the lack of one killed me, because I instinctively try to strike above me only to get hit by an NPC. Also, the rescue stations are few & far between, as are save points, to a lesser extent. I've more or less been playing the game with one turtle for the entire run of it, as everybody died in the beginning & I haven't gotten to revive more than one (just one, once, for a brief period) or do much of anything that isn't solo-work... which makes the already stressful game all the more tedious. I'm not a huge fan of the metroidvania genre, admittedly, but I'm not bad at it, either, usually. This one has proven a bit tricky, & I don't think it's that the level design is intricate or well thought out, but rather lazily done (rushed) & thus convoluted. What makes me super mad is that this is the only "bad" Wayforward game I've ever played. They put out stellar content. Soooo what the shell is this? Did they give it to their up & coming developers? I don't get it. So I will more or less echo what others have said; it's alright, worth buying when the price goes down, interesting to look at, better than the last, but all in all a great disappointment due to the wasted potential. I will say that a lot of love went into making this a cartoon content-rich experience, with regard to it following the look & general vibe of the show. Everything from the scripts to the sets/backgrounds & music feels perfectly in tone with the Nick series. Clearly the guys behind this thing are fans of it, or at least did their homework. So I give 'em props, there. I just wish the gameplay itself had as much care behind it. :tsad:

I give it a 5/10.

Never thought I'd find myself pining for the Ubisoft days... :trolleye: Activision needs to go.

Upward slash attack can only be done as a "Shellkicker" to end a combo. Attack, Attack, hold Attack + press Up. Yes it sucks.
