View Full Version : Do you think we'll get more games that aren't movie/tv show tie-ins?

Don't get me wrong i like game like Danger of the Ooze, TMNT and the 2003 video games but i kinda prefer TMNT video games that used their own storyline and settings such as the Manhattan Project, the NES game, Tournament Fighters, and Out of the Shadows more than games based on movies and tv shows.

Do you think we'll see more "origenal" games like that or will all future TMNT games from this point on be based on 2k13 series and the inevitable 2014 movie sequel?

Well, isn't Manhatten Project largely OT inspired? Tournament Fighters (for SNES, anyway) pulls the bulk of their roster & character designs from the Archie comics. Even Out Of The Shadows is rooted in a variation on the Nickelodeon series, so really, there haven't been any games that are a departure from a pre-established universe. Even the NES game, which has an almost entirely new/exclusive cast of disposable baddies, is clearly a riff on the OT, too. & though I haven't played them in full, the Nick games' stories aren't from the show, they're written to fit in between seasons/episodes, but they're new as far as I know.

I was just thinking about this... on the whole, the 2003 and 2012 games are kind of like an alternate continuity of the shows, but the ones that came before were really more of a "let's just throw in whatever" kind of thing. New characters, alternate designs to characters, pulling from multiple sources and so forth.

(Danger of the Ooze actually can't take place between 2 and 3 as-is no matter what they say. Way too many inconsistencies. It definitely has to be an alternate version of the events).

Woulda been nice if Smash-Up had been the game they made it out to be, drawing inspiration from all that came before, rather than a TMNT (2007) wank-fest.
There's still a lot of potential for a Street Fighter or Smash Brothers clone with characters from Playmates, the comics, the cartoons, etc.

Seriously, steal the Soul Calibur engine. It would be beautiful.

I will constantly champion a new fighting game for this franchise, and a multi-verse fighter would be the best. There's a reason I tried pushing for Ubisoft to make a Smash-Up 2 based on Turtles Forever.

A Turtles Forever game period would have been awesome, in the right hands. Man, I wish rom-hacks of Turtles In Time were as easy to make as Super Mario World. We'd have some great stuff by now. I've always told myself I was gonna make a SMW hack that was a TMNT sidescroller, but I never found the time for it. One day, maybe...

My favorite part of that game was the bizarre mission briefings and the excellent character artwork.

I definitely haven't forgotten it. I don't see what that has to do with this though... it was definitely one of those "alternate 2003" series games.

In any of these potential multiverse/not specifically tied to a universe games, I hope we finally get to officially play as Rocksteady and Bebop. I can't believe we've had like 25 years of TMNT games and still have not had them playable in a single one. I mean, yeah, we were forced to do without them overall for a length of time due to Laird's insistence, but still.

Sorry....we got into a fighter/Smash game staring the Turtles....and Mutant Melee did it before Smash Up.

I'd say that was more like Power Stone.

The way I see it, we got a fighter for ever era: Tournament Fighters (which was really three games, but whatever), for the "Konami I" era, Mutant Melee for the "Konami II" era, and Smash Up for the "Ubisoft" era.

I'm really worried that we won't get one for the "Activision" era but if I had a way to spearhead such an initiative I would.

Yep, Pretty much every TMNT game borrows from the OT, 2003, Movies and Nick series. I would like to see one based on the IDW series.

Tom Waltz actually wrote the story for the Android game, But it was loosely based on the 2014 movie.

That would be nice, come to think of it, has there ever been a game based on any of the comics?

Unfortunately, no. It's high time we got one, though I doubt it'd ever happen. The best we could hope for is a multiverse fighter with Mirage/IDW skins & characters.
