Been a while since my last custom, finally got back into it and started with a simple one, Ace Duck. Many may not even remember him from the cartoon, he was only for a few seconds cameo on "Attack Of The Big MACC", the turtles were watching an "Ace Duck Film Festival" (I guess he's a movie star in the cartoon?), and then Donatello walks up to the TV and changes the channel. Poor Ace was shut down too soon by Donatello. I would have enjoyed seeing a whole episode about Ace Duck so we could get to know the character.

Did some sculpt work on the jacket to make it zipped up to the chest like on the cartoon, along with other minor changes such as removing the logos and changing the teeth pattern. Repainted the figure completely, as well as the removable pilot's cap and service .45 pistol. Didn't use the wings or belt/egg grenades. I was thinking of sculpting a new pilot's cap permanently onto his head to make even that match the cartoon better, but it looks like it would be pretty hard to sculpt, and the one he comes with looks close enough. I may go back and do that later.

Well just as I thought may happen, the inaccuracy of the original pilot's cap started to bother me, so I decided to sculpt a new one permanently onto the head in an attempt to make it look closer to the cartoon. This also helps keep the hat on the head so I don't have to reposition it or worry about it falling off or getting lost. I also used a different color for the pilot's cap, and also glued the arms into place and sculpted over the swivel joints to make the shoulders look smoother, since I wasn't going to be using that articulation anyway, only time he would need his arms outward is if he's wearing the wings. Now the arms work like cut joints, just move up and down.

Thanks Powder! At first I wasn't sure if it was worth the trouble since it's just Ace Duck and he only had a brief cameo, but I figured I might as well, I'm glad I made the new cap so it can be more unique from the original figure

it's just Ace Duck

No character is "just" a character. Everybody is someone's favorite. All the work you do is totally worth it. :tsmile:

That's true every character matters, even the more obscure ones. Ace Duck was one of the first TMNT toys I had and brings back memories, so he's an ace in my book. It's a shame that he never got his own episode. I would eventually like to customize every character if I ever get around to it.

And thanks!

Impressive work TurtleManiac! :) ...But I'm sure that isn't news to you. ;)

What can I say about the detail? It's spot on to such an intricate level that it shows your gift in being able to assess and visualize exactly how your custom should be in terms of accuracy. I mean the detail with the hat.... psssh... :P:lol: I almost feel like I'm being introduced to a "Where's Waldo?"-level of visual scrutiny here.

I have to say it's a little unusual to see such an obscure character with the Turtles since Ace Duck was a television character within their own universe. It would be as unusual in seeing a Nick TMNT's "Space Heroes" action figure with the Nick Turtles if there was just a brief clip of that show for one episode within the Nick series. ...But I'm not griping or anything. :P

Hmmm, I wonder what the next custom will be... :)

I agree Ace Duck does seem quite obscure of a character in the cartoon, though he was huge to me in the vintage toyline, since I had the toy as a kid (with the hat missing, of course), and he was one of the earlier TMNT figures so I always considered him relevant.

Progress has been slow, but I'm planning to start my next custom this month.
