I have not posted here in about a year and a half because my interest in dealing with fandoms has waned to almost absolute zero...and interest in modern tmnt has waned as well....

but thought some of you who remembered the old projects might find this of interest. I am getting into the world of 3D printing....and these are the first two items I had printed up. ridiculously expensive, but well worth it for those of us who have no talent working with clay. modeled in cgi , these are as close as you will ever get to show accurate statues based on original series characters. I plan to do all four turtles once funds allow me to do so. and then expand to shredder, krang, bebop rocksteady and maybe a casey jones and mouser.

for leonardo, the prototype is rather blocky, and I forgot to flatten the feet, sohe does not stand under his own power. with the second prototype, he's much smoother and does stand on his feet. some things, like the mask tie did not survive both prints.

with the technodrome, the laser turrets did not survive. and standing at 6 inches tall, the left wheel gear is also missing from the print for some reason. but, itcame out beyond awesome so I cannot complain. Leonardo is a direct screen grab from 'Return of the Fly'. Raphael should arrive next week and is a direct screen grab pose from the opening intro.

enjoy

that's what I was going to get, but fear of needing to get prioritized filament only from davinci steered me away. I went with a makerfarm 12 inch because of price and build area size.

I feel that 3D Printing has the potential to reall change the toy industry as we know it with customs exploding in popularity and mass produced items left for the "squares" who just want the official releases. I'd gladly make my Red Sky figures, Channel 6 building, more realistic Turtles' Lair, REX-1, and anything else that is possible. And I enjoy listening to WCBS 101.1 FM too!

The the OP, my interest has waned a bit due to other hobbies and tasks, but glad to see you making a return! But my main question is, after you have the proper 3D printer, how much does it cost to make one of these figures and how time-consuming is it?

my printer is a $600 or so markerfarm 12 inch.

As for price, Leonardo 10 inch cost $440. Technodrome 6 inch cost $550, Raphael(hopefully 11 inches if done right) cost $550.

one of the benefits of having little to no overhead to worry about....all bought over the course of two months. they take about two weeks to make and ship from order time.

I do have these up for sale, but at the prices, only the 7 inch Leonardo at $127 would be in the 'reasonably affordable, but still super expensive' range for anyone.

my painting skills suck...i'd compare them to that of a 2nd grader, but that would be insulting the 2nd grader.

I spray painted on the grey, thought it would be easier to paint on the white with a brush. not so much. plus I didn't have any sand paper to get the excess spray specks off. oh well....maybe i'll strip it one day. it'd be a little easier to paint if it was bigger.

raphael is on route maybe tommorow

mini don has arrived. sadly he's smaller than leo. sigh. I really wish shapeways would have a set scale to do these things in. a button you could push so they always come in at 5 inches or 10 inches....etc. as it is now it's a guessing game. sometimes they come back smaller, sometimes bigger than what the number says.

the paint job on mike is still a work in progress... but his hasn't gone so well....

but now we have a complete set of all four turtles. I am going to reprint raph and don so they are more in scale with leo and mike.

I also just ordered giant 10.5 inch michaelangelo and a 6.5 inch rocksteady. those will get here at end of march.

But once I order Giant Don, that will be it for the giants. they are far too expensive and the 7 inch scale is easier to display anyway.

In a few weeks time, I will order Giant and mini don. and that will be it for a while.

I am just curious. how many of you here can paint a figure like this PROPERLY?
In other words, not my crappy way of doing it?

I am just curious. how many of you here can paint a figure like this PROPERLY?
In other words, not my crappy way of doing it?

Toying around with sending someone a 7" one for free with the promise that in return, you have to paint it properly and post the results.

Depending on the surface, and paint medium, pretty darn well. I've done ceramic painting since I was a kid, even won a few awards for it. Life-like cats, horses, a Medieval chess set, etc. Glaze and acrylics, antiquing, basically all sorts of techniques. The hardest part is getting the right paint/surface match. Some paint types hold better to some surfaces than others. I've done dragons, birds, and other very detailed subjects, so these guys look pretty simple in comparison.

Id be very interested in taking you up on that offer. I customized for years and painted on multiple surfaces. Let me know and Id love to give this a shot for you.

Here's a sampling of fully painted figures that I also did lots of sculpting for...

Ooh, those are nice! I've never tried painting figures yet, but I've been dying to try it on some of mine, to fix minor gaffes in the paint jobs. Just have too many other things going on and haven't gotten around to it yet. Also a little concerned about devaluing them....

finally, a complete set of 7 inch turtle figures.

Giant don should be here next week for a complete set of 11 inch figures.

Then I'm just sticking to the 7 inch line. the giants are too expensive.

Krang and Rocksteady are up next. thinking of making a leatherhead model next.

finally a complete set of both. that's it for giants line though. too expensive.

Although I did give the Talking Toons Raph to Rob Paulsen over the weekend. he treated it like an emmy statue ;o)

New figure coming in.

a ten inch tall Krang and his android, so it'll be in line with the mini turtles. should be arriving late next week.

will do either a shredder or rocksteady next.

fastest 3D print ever. the first figure I tried printing earlier in january with another company, is the last shapeways figure of the year. Krang. In Scale with the turtle figures for the most part.

next year will see the arrival of bebop, rocksteady, and a slightly bigger technodrome print.

Thank you! They look really nice :) Would you like to show some close up shots too? And maybe say something about the printing, materials, etc
