Hello, all. As parents of a 2 1/2 year old, my wife and I love to go to flea markets looking for old children's books for our son. What's even more fun is getting him ones we loved as a kid. So, what are some of your favorite children's books from yesteryear?

If we see them, we pick up almost anything Berenstain Bears. We bought their B Book (which I loved as a Kid) and their more recent A Book (that I don't remember...must be newer.) To "complete" the set, we bought C is for Clown from Amazon for $.01, which has since been renamed The Berenstain's C Book.

I mentioned in a different thread that Charlottte's Web was on of my favorite book *and it still is.*

Or if you want a better option *without any character deaths* any book from Dr. Seuss never fails. My fave book from him was Cat in the Hat.

I remember really loving a lot of fairytale and folk-lore anthologies.

Peter Rabbit stories by Beatrix Potter are also a fond memory... also Martha B Rabbit: The Fairies' Cook by Shirley Barber (plus the artwork for Martha B Rabbit is absolutely exquisite).

I loved Bernstein Bears, Mercer Mayer books, Dr. Seuss books, and also loved Little Golden books as well. One of my other favorite books was one called Whisper the Unicorn, and I also had a Popples book I was very fond of. Oh, and I can't forget the Rose Petal books as though were some good ones, too as well as two Cabbage Patch books we had.

Oh, and how could I forget about Sesame Street? We have a lot of those books, too. My sis even has one that was made just for her and has her name and information about her, too.

Looking through the list reminded me of this "new" favorite. I loved Amelia Bedilia as a kid, but had never heard this one. So funny:

Machias, you have excellent taste in books!

And I will second Charlotte's Web, it was and still IS my favorite children's book- so much so that I sent my copy to my daughter in Iowa when she was three, so she could enjoy it just as I did. It still has the book plate in front with my name on it, and my mom's name on the inside front cover, since it was her copy before I had it. It's been handed down through three generations now.

My wife would probably love that Care Bear book.

My son's absolute favorite book. Read it so much he's already learned his ABCs:

What about the clock?
I had something like this:

I played so much with it that the clock in the midle poped out.
