View Full Version : How to make the Creep's mutagen?

Amaranthus

I really want to recreate the jar with the Creep's mutagen from the Nick cartoon, but I have no idea how.
The jar itself won't be a problem, but I want to know how I make a mutagen-like substance.
Any ideas?

I'm not on a real computer right now, but if you go to YouTube, look up "galaxy slime". That may be a good and somewhat cheap solution. Just adjust how liquidy you want it and skip the glitter. If you dig further, you might find a tutorial on a glow-in-the-dark version? ^_^

Hair gel, glitter, & a green LED light ought to do the trick.

I actually want to go for a a substance that has the same colour as the Creep's mutagen. Which appears to be somewhat cyan/teal.
I don't know if I want to start messing with glowsticks or LED-lights.
I just want to make slime that looks like it.
Buy the first wave of mutagen from the store. Looks quite similar.

It would be a lot more fun to make something myself though.

Well, if you can't do it, there is always another option. :)

Why are you unspoilering the pictures you quote?

Or using "the" properly, for that matter...

Yawn. Didn't do anything wrong.
Why does using "teh" matter if it means the same thing as "the"?

Basically, Krang added a feature so that if someone quotes an image, it just displays the link, not the image a second time (as it causes clutter). Every time he quotes an image, you see the image, so I have to assume he's editing the things he quotes so that the pics show up. *shrug*

The feature you described only works when you click http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/imgs/buttons/quote.gif or http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/imgs/buttons/multiquote_off.gif, it doesn't work if you use the quick reply feature (this button http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/imgs/buttons/quickreply.gif) so there's a possibility he did not do the thing you assumed he did. I'm not defending anyone though :trazz:

Got one more picture of someone holding the jar so I can tell the size?

Couldn't find a shot of anyone holding the jar, but here's a screencap that gives a good reference for the size of the jar:

There's a shot of Donnie holding another equipment though, if you'd consider them similarly-sized enough:

Thanks. I'll probably go with making something without the glow, like in this picture. Since I really don't want to mess with glowsticks or LED's.
Still don't know how I'll make it.

Or I'll go with something that glows in the dark. Not sure yet.

It would if he ticked "Quote message in reply?"

Ironically, your quote on my reply would have worked better and used less space if they stayed as images instead of becoming links :P

I guess I could mess with the formula a bit so it'll look more like it, right?
Don't know what food colouring I should use though (yellow and green for the original), maybe I can add something to make it glow in the dark too.

You might need to do a bit of trial-and-error to get the result that you have in mind, but hey, at least you'll have fun while you're experimenting! :tsmile:

You could also try getting some highlighter pens (fluorescent marking pens) and taking out the ink tube and using that instead of food coloring? Or another option is getting some glow powder (a lot of ravers here buy glow powder-based makeup so that it shows up under the black lighting in clubs) - a generic type is available in some craft stores but you should be able to buy it online as well?

Should I just add glow-powder to the basic formula? Will it glow as the colour it is or something else? Also how much should I use? Will post original formula here as well.
Maybe I'll go with green and blue food colouring instead of blue and yellow.
I'll ask around.

i'm interested in how this turns out... i have a few idea for making the TGRI ooze can and filling it with ooze from the video pennydreadful posted.... my idea to make it glow is to find a base with a light in it to display it on... that way i have control over the glow and can turn it on and off...

I'll probably use glow-in-the-dark powder or paint instead. Seems more fun.
I'll just have to ask someone with scientific knowledge how I should change the original recipe.

pretty sure as long as u have the glue and borax measurements correct you'll be fine adding what you need.

Where do I find Borax in Belgium? Same for glow-in-the-dark powder.
Google is giving me online shopping only but I'd prefer buying it in a store.

This is what it is: http://chemistry.about.com/od/moleculescompounds/f/What-Is-Borax.htm

You'll probably find some results if you google Borax Belgie. You might also look at any powdered detergent/laundry or dishwashing soap you have around to see if it contains Borax...

If all else fails, I'm headed to the States in April... I can just bring some back for you and mail it once I'm back in Nederland.

I hope I'll find it myself, an online friend of mine (who happens to be over 40) once sent me a box full of stuff and my mom thought it was a paedo.
This was after a wacky artist from Canada sent me an American flag with a kitty and Swastikas painted all over it.
No joke.
The flag is on the left (duh).
My mom threw it away. So yeah, she's not keen on me getting stuff from people online. She's just not comfortable with people knowing where we live.
I'm postive I'll find Borax though, if it's inn detergent I'm sure I'll find it.
Thanks for the help.

Do you know if glow-in-the-dark powder is commonly sold in shops?
I can just go with paint if that works too.

k... maybe not the best First Contact, but still... OoOoOOooOooOooo, scary internet people coming to get you! OOooOoOoooo!!

I see you can get glow pigment through Maarktplaats, but I don't know if that's the right stuff. You might ask at a local arts and crafts store.

Also, if I used something containing Borax, would I have to calculate how much powder I should put into it so it matches the Borax requirements?
Obviously detergent won't be the same as just pure Borax.

Not sure if you can find aloe vera gel at your local mart/pharmacy, but it could be one of the ingredient you can use.

But I decided maybe making mutagen like in that video (but with a slightly different formula for glow in the dark and different colour).

I added glow-powder to one of the solutions I needed to make the slime.
Slime's done, but now there's chunks of glow-powder in it rather than it being mixed.
What do I do?

I'm curious how it would turn out if you poured clear resin into a jar and added your colorant with the glow powder. The powder would stay suspended when the resin cures. Just a thought. It would also be more permanent.

Amaranthus

You guys don't it.
It's already slime. I can't stir or anything.
And since a part of the powder is in the slime, and I only had 0,5 ounces. I now don't have enough to retry it with a new batch of slime.
:-?
