.....Tried to tell them you don't want to go to war with us.
Young riders. Raised in the gutter where we started from the bottom. We all we ever had, we all we ever needed, and we undefeated.

Most of you guys on here will remember my Undercover Raphael custom I made several months ago. Well tonight I'm happy to share with you his other brothers I reworked in the same vain. I've been working on these figs for a few months. I used the 11 inch movie figures and went to town dremeling and sculpting. I did a ton of tricks and techniques and to be honest too much to type about in one sitting. So if anyone has any questions I'm happy to answer any of them. Maybe if this draws a lot of interest ill upload wip pics, but for now enjoy my work. ~ Kev

:teek::teek: OMFG, I WANT THESE!! I mean, WOW. Just freaking awesome all over the place. The detail, the design, just- everything. Now I'm wishing they'd looked like THIS in the film. I'm drooling on my keyboard, especially over that Mikey. And Leo. And Donnie manages to look a perfect blend of nerdy and badass!! I give it two thumbs WAAAY up, man!

Wow! Those are amazing!

The only thing that looks weird to me are the missing plastrons... just curious, but why did you leave them off?

I am curious as well about the plastrons. I still love the look of these figures though. A more muted look instead of going all crazy like the movie.

I left them off for no real big reason. The idea of adding them def crossed my mind and I knew I would get flack for not including them. Honestly I just liked the way looked with out them as I was working them over. In my wip pics youll see Donatello actually has a ripped torso with pecs and abs before I sculpted his shirt. I really liked the way he looked like a chiseled Bruce Lee and as I was looking at him it dawned on me that I never saw a TMNT like that. Soooo I guess I just did it for my own selfish reasons. Honestly it doesn't bother me too much. I want to do some comic acurate sets and for those they'll def be there.

Here is a brainstorming and process spread. At first I thought Michelangelo's deck would look cool with a batman image or logo on it. Then I decided on the joker. His Zoo York shirt was a no brainer. As i've been told, originally the old Zoo York skate crew would infiltrate the subway tunnels and tag down there. That and the fact he's a turtle just made it seem so obvious to add that detail to him.

Eating donuts and boiling plywood. I boiled some craft plywood to soften the glue and wood then clamped it to have that curved shape. I also made one out of styrene plastic which later turned out to be the final one I used. Magnets were implanted into the deck to snap fit to his shell and into his hands. Michelangelo's pumpkin mask; I figured I would be finishing these right around Halloween, so why not.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f263/kwalsh007/techno%20wip/TWIP2.jpg (http://s49.photobucket.com/user/kwalsh007/media/techno%20wip/TWIP2.jpg.html)

Weapons!! Making some weapons out of styrene. I thought it would be cool to include all those ninja weapons the 80s toys came with (and some). Also crafted was a short bo staff with a spiked ball at the end of it. Stand alone I really liked this weapon but it just didn't work when attached to Leonardo. It made him look a bit too cluttered.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f263/kwalsh007/techno%20wip/TWIP3.jpg (http://s49.photobucket.com/user/kwalsh007/media/techno%20wip/TWIP3.jpg.html)

Process shot. After I got Donatello's pose down and his body the way I wanted I snapped a pic of him and sent it to phoshop where I quickly painted over him an outfit. Originally I wanted to give him a lifejacket vest but then later deiced on a shredded t shirt and backpack.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f263/kwalsh007/techno%20wip/TWIP4.jpg (http://s49.photobucket.com/user/kwalsh007/media/techno%20wip/TWIP4.jpg.html)

Process shot. Figuring out Leonardo's shirt, hood and mask. I wanted to make Leonardo look as dangerous as possible. Inspired a bit by Mad Max and Shredder I gave Leonardo's face mask a medeval piece of hardware where in a last resort he could even use that as a weapon. Adjusting Donatello's glasses to his face.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f263/kwalsh007/techno%20wip/TWIP5.jpg (http://s49.photobucket.com/user/kwalsh007/media/techno%20wip/TWIP5.jpg.html)

Getting a bit closer to completion. Frying bacon.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f263/kwalsh007/techno%20wip/TWIP6.jpg (http://s49.photobucket.com/user/kwalsh007/media/techno%20wip/TWIP6.jpg.html)

Ready to paint! Originally I wanted to give Donatello a gag mustache and nose to harken back to his 80's undercover toy. With out the trench coat it didn't work and I scrapped the idea.
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f263/kwalsh007/techno%20wip/TWIP7.jpg (http://s49.photobucket.com/user/kwalsh007/media/techno%20wip/TWIP7.jpg.html)

Lets paint! To me painting is my favorite part. Its like adding the icing to the cake. mmmmmm cake.... Here I made a swatch board to see how I wanted skin tones to look. I made a few swatch board for all the different browns greys and tans too; leathers, straps, pouches, etc.. ALOT of mixing my own paint and making samples. And eating sandwiches and drinking cream soda.

More painting process.

really enjoying checking out your work, I especially like WIP pics. I like Raph the best, with Mike being a close second and all Leo's weapons are a cool nod to the OG figures. the masks are a cool touch too. thanks for sharing and I'm looking forward to any other figures you make :tthumbsu: :tthumbsu:

Hey guys. I thought I would share this link. One of my film savy buds put together (what I think anyways) is a stand up sweet video presentation of these four customs. Def worth a look and maybe a sub. We do toy reviews and sometimes video game stuff. We also make the worlds crappiest horror movies.
