View Full Version : [Fan Art] Mostly Utroms

A combination of focusing on Utroms and struggling to find a comfortable turtle design for myself has led to 98% of my tmnt stuff being Utroms. Mostly fitting in its own universe, and inspired by my personal greatest question revolving around IDW Krang: "Where is his mother?"

The answer I've made for myself is "she's dead". And then I ended up creating a whole character around it, which now has become a story on its own.

Her name was Temre and she was one of Krang's predecessors as General.
http://img11.deviantart.net/7002/i/2015/338/a/d/temre_bio_2_by_bat_snake-d9iyr7s.png
She came from a large military family. Her scar comes from saving a stranded exploration team from some of the native life on Morbus; she injured fending them off, but was ultimately mortally wounded by Traxus when Krang was extremely young.

Deviantart link for the whole biography: http://bat-snake.deviantart.com/art/Temre-bio-2-576050248

I tend to not work in watercolor, but I had some leftover paint from a prior project and came out with Krang's first escape on Morbus

One thing I really want to put together is a speculation on Utrom anatomy, which I've been struggling with for a while. It's not easy, especially considering that I'm not a professional biologist and physically could not handle dissections in high school.

Finally for now, the (fairly old in my art development time) comic from which my icon comes from. Pretty much a summary of the last time Krang saw his father. I put the pieces together and couldn't pass up the opportunity.

I have combined Utrom Empire, Stare Dad, and This is Fine Dog, and I am unashamed. It will probably be recreated in accordance to how I've improved in the last several months since this one.

There's still a lot more I've done, but I'm not sure if they'd comply with the rules?

"I have seen the cost of your pride. And I have no use for it. Not anymore. I could have you forcibly removed. But you're not worth saving. You're not even worth killing."

I've been drawing Utroms enough in frequency that I feel like I can revisit old art and redo it.

For example, a scenario while Krang is in the lift after abandoning his father to die. Now, the last remaining survivors of his species are huddled in a bunker, scrambling to prepare for their hibernation; the rest are dead as a result extermination of resources or slaughtering in the rebellion - both of which have dragged the planet into its own doom. And it's all Quanin's fault. But Krang was willing to give him a chance; he's his father after all. And he had the gall to assume that they would survive on their dead planet.
What's a guy to do but cry a little while he has the chance - before anyone can see and while he's in a truly isolated place? He failed his species, he failed his home and his father has fallen out of the wagon.

This is the first version from early August

It seems that I may have to make a third post in a row, since I have a little more to share and it's been a couple weeks since the last one.

IDW Krang and Ch`rell are my favorite antagonistic Utroms, and I realized that this is would pretty much make up a highly annotated, watered down version of what a meeting between them would look like. Also, it's what a quick squish not-to-be-fully finished work presently looks like for me.
http://img06.deviantart.net/f39a/i/2016/003/6/0/let_s_be_smart_and_bring_it_off_by_bat_snake-d9mkc0m.png
That's...probably not what the prongs are for, they're probably just birth defects.

My Christmas illustration, in a universe where Temre didn't die when Krang was an infant
http://orig09.deviantart.net/903a/f/2015/358/0/0/coldness_by_bat_snake-d9lb8iv.png

And finally, a depiction of Leatherhead finding Dr. Xeinos after TCRI was destroyed. In the basement of a building that probably needs to look a lot more gonked up. Also, I cannot draw alligator heads as well as I'd like to.
http://pre11.deviantart.net/6db4/th/pre/i/2016/003/c/e/after_destruction_by_bat_snake-d9molkf.png
It's in my concept where Leatherhead is a little older than the TMNT, though...so it was intentional to attempt making him look young. Tried to aim for a teenage boxer/wrestler look, but that'll develop in time.

Huh...seems this has made my 100th post...*blows kazoo*

I'm hoping to get some kind of response from someone...because I have another update.

This "draw the squad" challenge inspired a "where the IDW TMNT villains are now"

I'm not actually sure what Stockman, Koya, and Blugeon are doing, but this seems pretty close.

This is from September and will most likely be redrawn. But I've yet to rave here on how much I adore the Utroms that Sophie Campbell drew. Especially Churk. But he's not here.
I like to think that the military transport team's commander is the type of intimidating military guy who flaunts photos of his grandchildren. Not quite sure who to compare him to? Like the eye-patched mustache-twirling villain in spy films who babies his pets. "And now that we've had our evil scheming...let's go play with my puppy."

Unfortunately, new recruits don't always know that, and sometimes get trapped with him while he's excited about having recently seen his grandchildren/having a new grandchild. (Double spoiler for language. It is also quite large accidentally)

It's mostly my own interpretation; I would love to see something more official, but I'll have to go with wild speculation. Well, mostly wild, making guesses based of their physiology and what very little we have been given. At some point, I might compile my thoughts together.

This was made in November, and will certainly be redone, since the tub is awkwardly formed in front of Temre's tentacles; it might even have to be completely redesigned.
http://img03.deviantart.net/fb2f/i/2015/323/0/1/the_bath_by_bat_snake-d9h6lmj.png
Quanin is questioning why Temre is bathing their son; after all, they have a nanny for that. A nanny who, at this point, has become more of a personal aid to Temre, since she was the one mostly caring for him.

At this point, I was having a bit of trouble figuring out the leg formation of the walkers...so now, I'm probably going to go with the hoverseats of the 23k Utroms, or walkers like what the original Krang had...but without the screen.

I actually like that first picture of Worth Abandoning because of the shadowing on General Krang's form. (Also, he looks more 'squishier' for some reason imo.)

As for the "Draw the Squad" challenge, I do like your humorous take on the idea.

Utrommaniac

I personally find the shading to be too intense on the original, which is part of why I did a second version; I had been experimenting with shadows that were were a little kinder to the eye. Or at least mine.

My latest redraw has been with Quanin spending a little time with Krang while his mother sleeps. I had drawn Temre handling him most of the time, and in other instances of Quanin holding him, he wasn't tolerating it.

This is the first one.
http://img08.deviantart.net/3a51/i/2015/326/0/e/daddy_time_by_bat_snake-d9ho13u.png

I was clueless as to how to handle Utrom sleeping arrangements, and still am, so I started off extraordinarily simple for a General and Supreme Council Member.
Quanin is a lot more alert, I'm still using long tentacles next to their eyes (we need an anatomy chart and come up with some actual names for their extra tentacles...and what they're used for). Krang is tiny, and Temre's lower jaw looks weird to me. And still no official configuration for her scars.
This version has a (barely used) cradle. Look at that thing, it's huge for a baby that tiny.

This is the second.
http://orig05.deviantart.net/6714/f/2016/024/2/2/daddy_time_take_2_by_bat_snake-d9p4cu5.png
This time around, the bed is something of a four-poster canopy that's probably in the middle of their room. Quanin is more relaxed, and with him laying against Temre rather than against her, and with the blanket pulled up higher around them, it looks cozier. Bedding is brown instead of purple. Krang is a bit bigger, and for them, is probably cradled more properly.

The cradle is absent from this version; unless they have something itty bitty, I doubt Utroms use them a lot; unless they have bassinets attached to their walkers, a concept I find adorable, but can't seem to configure. In fact, there's probably quite a lot that Utroms wouldn't share with humans, but that's something I'll get into another time.

It's been a while since a post, but I think I will go Professor Obligado themed here. Because Obligado is great.

Some of these are from last November, and I ended up switching his color because it wasn't quite "right" with him...or Xeinos for that matter, who I depict as his daughter.

This first one is a depiction of seeing his mother and father while his memories were being preserved, and is on my list of things to be redone.
Obligado (and his father) have been switched to a gray-green color.
http://img01.deviantart.net/ed54/i/2015/319/1/a/out_of_body_memory_by_bat_snake-d9gtuop.png
They clearly have an awful taste in design.

I like to think that Obligado had siblings, and that he was the oldest of them. He was a pretty awesome older brother. The kind that would help to make science fair projects and make them bad@$$. But for the most part, was a reliable babysitter.
http://img06.deviantart.net/21a7/i/2015/319/a/f/the_older_brother_by_bat_snake-d9guz3n.png

A page of sketches, in red ink because that was the only pen I had at the time. I was experimenting with Nalmar, his companion earlier in his adventuring career, who was also Xeinos' mother. I worked with two different ideas, one where they never had a child, and one with Xeinos. I loved the idea of Xeinos being his daughter so much that I went with that one.
http://img15.deviantart.net/6e80/i/2015/321/c/e/obligato_sketch_dump_by_bat_snake-d9h0yd8.jpg
Nalmar is basically a hippie; I've coined "Primalist" as an Utrom version of it. She introduced him to a lot of the narcotics he enjoys. She also preceded Obligado in death decades before The Grape, having contracted a virus that is basically if Parkinson's and Hypermalaria (from Futurama) had a really ugly baby.

This (http://bat-snake.deviantart.com/art/Xeinos-Birth-573188540) is linked to my deviantART because I'm not sure if it's okay for the forum (mostly for blood?), plus there's a story attached.
I'll link this one too (http://bat-snake.deviantart.com/art/Calming-down-576948038), since I'm not sure what the consensus on some of the material is here either. It's the point where I switched Obligado's color.

This is more recent, and more exploration of his childhood.
http://img07.deviantart.net/cd3d/i/2016/001/e/c/obligado_s_youth_by_bat_snake-d9met8m.png
It's based on what I could grasp on how Obligado was remembering his parents. He was wistful seeing his mother and laughing when seeing his father. So from there, I'm thinking that his mother was comforting and his father was "fun". Father encouraged his exploration and let him do whatever; his mother knew it was useless to interfere and stop them, so she tried to advise caution. If things turned out bad, she would step in, fix up scratches, and confirm that he learned his lesson.

And finally, totally not involved with Valentines tomorrow, another snapshot of one of his adventures with Nalmar...who I've considered at this point to be about 6-10 years younger than him. Young enough to be one of his students or a novice instructor, but not young enough to be mistaken for his being his daughter.
http://img08.deviantart.net/e3a9/i/2016/044/3/e/stars_by_bat_snake-d9rmlzn.png
During one of their expeditions on a two-mooned planet, they stopped to enjoy the sky...and have most likely gotten really, really high. Nalmar in particular, the hippie that she is.

That's about it for now; I might do some redraws and load them here at some point.

Now that #56 has shown what Utrom bedding looks like, I took the liberty of re-doing something I did about five months ago.

I'm not sure if this counts as OCD or not, but Temre has a ritual where she has to report entries in several journals before going to sleep, otherwise she simply can't settle down. Sometimes it can be a test to Quanin's patience, and from the looks of her tea, she'll be there for a long while.

I wish I didn't have a third post in a row, but I still have something new, depicting the moments after Temre was dropped on the exhaust pipe that burned her.

She had been leading a protection squad for some researchers on a dangerous planet, of whom Obligado was part of (who probably could have made a pretty good protector on his own), and she was attacked by one of the aliens she should have been capable of fighting off (which would be something like the mutated Gollum Raptors from Mirage vol 4) She was picked up off her walker, and did manage to get away. However, she had been dropped on researcher's habitation system exhaust pipe and was severely burned. The other soldiers chased it off while Obligado - and his companion Nalmar - were looking after her while proper medics were alerted.

http://img08.deviantart.net/f46c/i/2016/099/7/f/burned_by_bat_snake-d9yb46i.png

And a mini-story to pair with it. I think the first I've done on here
In the moment the creature dropped her, Temre barely felt the intensity of being dropped on the hot exhaust pipe. In a split moment, she felt the heat singe her skin, and hardly had time to scream before everything in her sight flashed bright white.

The next thing she knew, she had been pulled away. Someone was holding her. She could feel something trickling down her scalp; she could not begin describe the pain in her side. Other than it was the worst she had ever experienced. It was painful to even attempt to breathe. "Temre?" She struggled for a moment to recognize the voice; she noticed the tentacle wrapped under her. It was familiar. The voice was familiar; she just couldn't put a name to it. "Temre can you hear me?"

Temre fought for a breath; the dryness in her skin intensified; she could smell burning flesh. And blood. She finally screamed.
"Nalmar!" Even in her pain, Temre finally put a name to the voice. Obligado!
"I'm coming!" Someone else called. "I couldn't get the water to warm up!"
Temre managed to look around, and saw Nalmar stumbling out of the research dome. She was carrying some damp towels. Nalmar gently laid a tentacle over her, passing one of the towels to Obligado, who laid it over the top of her scalp. She gasped at the coldness of it, and she was suddenly aware of punctures in that area - particularly one going deeper than the others. "Hold on, now..." Nalmar gently brushed her face before laying another over her side. Temre balked and slightly spasmed.
She had expended all her energy; she couldn't find the strength to scream again. Instead, she clutched Obligado's tentacle and sobbed.
"Help is on the way." Obligado gently assured her.
Temre gulped, unable to move her tentacles to rub the tears off her face. She couldn't even attempt to speak. Instead, the white flash returned to her vision, and she weakly sank to the ground, blacking out once again.

Honest question: what led to your obsession with Utroms?

Utrommaniac
04-26-2016, 08:13 PM
I suppose it's an affinity for obscure fantasy societies in general.

On a real-world note, I had an obsession with learning about bats - and then snakes - in most of middle school.
Through most of high school, I had something similar for the Rat Creatures from the Bone comics...who are still awesome, if not even more obscure. Then I watched Doctor Who and enjoyed the Daleks.
I tried to create my own faction; a group that escaped the Time War and tried to reverse back into Kaleds somewhere deep in the universe.
Ch'rell was the first Utrom I would ever see, and that was from Phelous' review of Turtles Forever, and I ended up watching three versions at once, then went into the comics. I wanted to look into Utroms for more inspiration for that group of Daleks, but they ended up being exactly what I wanted.

Even with the Rat Creatures and Daleks, I'd still have a lot of enjoyment in figuring out what they were outside of how they're shown in canon. Where are the female Rat Creatures, I'd ask. What is life like for a single individual Dalek among the millions, I'd ask. With Utroms, one such question is how the **** they cram all their organs into their little round bodies.

Developing Temre was probably the final nail in the head, because I haven't looked back since then. I haven't even posted all the potential I've worked on for her - especially as a combatant and military leader.

I've enjoyed looking into single groups of things for a long time, and Utroms are just the next tier in that.

I like to think that the dinosaur-studying Utroms had some trouble with Velociraptors, but eventually just came to tolerate them.

A comparison of Krang and Temre. In most depictions, it seems pretty clear that Krang takes after his mother, even if he just looked different from Quanin for artistic simplicity. But I still wanted to compare Krang to Temre even with their close similarities - and not just from Temre's scar and slightly different skin tone (and that's only because she wasn't an indoor child like Krang was)

I have several thoughts on Utrom life, and this is one of them.

Utrom mouths are pretty big, probably so when they were living pre-civilized lives, they could eat quickly without getting attacked by their natural predators. But it also helped to protect their offspring from danger, like a few types of fish on Earth.

It's considered archaic for modern Utroms, even gross by some, but there are those that will still do it. They usually live in rural groups, and have their own opinion on those that object to mouth carrying: stuck up.

I'm sure that with how few of them are left, it would only make sense for most of them to bring their babies with them everywhere, especially considering the way the Burnow Island facilities are.

Continuing in the story of Temre's burn recovery; her relationship with Quanin was already starting to bloom before she was wounded, but it flourished while she was recovering. Even when most of it was spent doped up on painkillers.

She's pretty much come down to it, save for trying to figure out setting her apart from Krang.

I often put sketches together into one page, and this is the first one I've done in quite a long time. These are in pencil and ink.

This is one of many designs I've done for Temre's armor, but I think this one is my favorite. I might build on it more at a later date.
https://67.media.tumblr.com/a76f81281eee7303121b2168bdc15014/tumblr_o8fjau9st11rfuylgo1_540.png
Two of the sketches are from attempts at a study for more energy and posture in Utroms - which is not an easy task. Churk ended up on it.

I have one big story in mind for when Temre gave birth to Krang, as a slice-of-life event, and part of it involved Quanin injuring himself cutting food for her. Because she had been in situations arguably more painful, Temre had the energy to tease him about it while the midwife (a Neutrino) stitched him up.

Continuing Temre's "bring the baby everywhere" parenting, she would really just not have a care in the world where/when/in front of who she fed him.

I did, however, make a needle-felted Krang.

Xeinos and Leatherhead. I'm not terribly happy with how Leatherhead turned out, but that's what final versions are for.
One of these is IDW-centered with "what if Xeinos stumbled upon Leatherhead before finding out what he did, and managed to take off his incarceration belt". Granted, he probably wouldn't have given her the chance.

Sure, it's a good job. It has security. Pays for the kids to go to college and keeps the bills in check. But is it too much to ask not to be level with human crotches all day?

And a full skeleton concept. It's not the best and I still need to figure out that "shoulder" joint, but it's my best yet.
http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o191/Bat-Snake/utrom%20skeleton_zpsjrke56a9.png
It's based on Santolouco's style, where their legs definitely signify hard parts in their bodies. There's a lot to suggest that they have a skeletal structure of some kind. Especially in the 'face'. But their tentacles don't have bone. However, they're far more rigid and muscly than an octopus', which has so many nerves that each tentacle practically has a mind of its own.

I have a lot of ideas about Utrom biology, including the ones I probably shouldn't be talking about here.

I think Utroms are originally ocean (shore) dwellers and lived off shellfish and things. Then they started getting into technology that allowed them travel farther and more easily than they would on their legs alone.

There are several that there are still some that live on the shoreline and make livings off shellfish, even farming them. I considered having water running off him, then I realized with how slimy they are, their skin is probably hydrophobic, so water won’t run if they get out of it.

Figuring out the net was confusing; not really sure how they’d be able to carry a full one. They probably have to make multiple trips.

A fourth post in a row in on week...a little disconcerting...

Obligado has made a comeback, with Nalmar. While on an expedition, they strayed too far from their ship and got caught in a storm. No stranger to such situation, Obligado found shelter in a boulder's inlet for the night. Certainly a "normal" choice compared to what he's used to by that point.

Another moment of Temre bringing a young Krang to a meeting. This being in the time where he's just figuring out how mirrors work (at least from a baby's perspective). Taking a moment or two to entertain him in the middle of a meeting hasn't been her most professional moment, but it was frequently necessary. Until she finally decided to do quick meetings and leave him with his father for a few minutes, unless he really needed her attention.

https://68.media.tumblr.com/4138ed058f2b9edb36888a22bbfc0783/tumblr_inline_ocwmu9rwxy1rw8miz_540.png

This was mostly inspired by one of my favorite moments in Call the Midwife, when Chummy was saying her cooking instructions out loud to entertain her son, and ended up burning what she was making. “One titter from you, young sir, and I’ll take you to the mirror and show you what a naughty monkey looks like.” Alas, young Freddie did not see what a naughty monkey looks like. But young Krang has seen a pesky beetle and it is he.

I had also gotten some comic book style fonts, and I wanted to test them out.

Maybe you're happy for him?

I did another Obligado (and Nalmar) centered one...with another creature. At some point, I'm going to have to put them in a situation a little more wild than this. One could say getting stranded in an average swamp alongside a practical urban hippie with nothing but some tarps and a blanket is one of Obligado's more minor escapades.

In my personal spin on TMNT, Krang an eldest child out of four (and a later accidental five)

Sheroe and Leonea are his sisters and an extremely rare set of identical twins. After their Quanin became emperor, they shared the role as Supreme Councilor (while Krang took the role of General from their mother after she becomes Empress). Garaon is the youngest, and the only one to inherit Quanin's yellow coloring. He is the only one of the siblings to make his own independent career path as a talented businessman and mogul.

It's an idea I've been kicking around a little bit.

My favorite ideas are what he does when Himiko's in grade school. That being that he ends up in a small house in the suburbs, with a tunnel to the Technodrome ala Adam West Batman's Batcave. He also ends up in the PTA (he's not really sure how it happened) and is antagonized by the "I want to talk to the manager" "My Timmy's in Honor Roll" "Samantha could fight your daughter. She's a yellow belt in Tee Quin Doo", mildly racist but entirely pretentious PTA Mom Helen.

That is, until Himiko gets suspended from school for sneaking in one of her dad's swords for show and tell. And destroys a wall swinging it. Also the sword.
And beating up Samantha on the playground during recess.

For the moment, I have old-ish art to show.
A while back, I had a dream that had this guy in it.
http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o191/Bat-Snake/dream%20utrom_zpsdalhby2q.png
The most I recall of it is that he was the overseer of an Utrom breeding facility somewhere in the countryside. An actual number given for residents was 100 females. I guess they wanted more space than on Burnow.
He also chased the turtles through a cornfield through some kind of flying machine. It was...neat.

Anyway, even with the sketch being old art, I decided to color the gritty old grump.

I seriously doubt that the Utrom population as a whole doesn't seem to do any kind of personalization on their walkers, nor is there any apparent form of body decoration, like paint or piercings. So my little kindergarten teacher here demonstrates all of these. She even has rubber safety tips on the ends of her walker legs. I guess it would be her "work walker", since it's built to be lower to the floor than the ones we mostly see.

There's also only five kids. Because of how long Utroms live, they likely have a fairly low birthrate.

Wow, you're a good artist. Was it hard getting to where you are now in your drawings? Did you take some classes or something? I'd love to be able to draw as good as you and other members someday, and I'd like some advice, if you could. :)

Utrommaniac

A lifetime of drawing really, though I've come a long way from when I first started drawing Utroms. The last time I had a "real" art class was when I was in high school, and that was five years ago.

Here's an examples of some things I did in October of 2015
http://img10.deviantart.net/2015/i/2015/300/f/c/temre_collection_by_bat_snake-d9ej6e4.jpg

http://img15.deviantart.net/fbda/i/2015/301/6/9/temre_collection_2_by_bat_snake-d9eoq0j.png

I've come along way, especially in settling on a style. One of my prized (http://bat-snake.deviantart.com/art/Dancing-147339217) examples (http://bat-snake.deviantart.com/art/Dancing-again-159574319) of art improvement actually comes from Land Before Time fanart from when I was in high school, with growth occuring in four months. Though, the Utrom stuff happened over a course of a year+ .

I've even shared some art progress in three stages by redoing the same art multiple times to test improvement. Going from here (http://bat-snake.deviantart.com/art/Please-get-in-bed-571909323) to here (http://bat-snake.deviantart.com/art/Please-get-in-Bed-take-2-601302825) to here (http://bat-snake.deviantart.com/art/Come-To-Bed-3-630092189). And I'm considering a fourth version, with revised ideas of what Utrom bedrooms would like like (with which I am just going to call "Pillow Town" for the moment, unless I decide that Quanin might do a different setup).

A lot of artists will tell you to "Practice, practice, practice", but I personally have found it helpful to follow the example of other artists and really study their technique. My best advice is to do more than "practice", but observe what other artists are doing, take examples from them, and have at least a little time to consider the environments your characters would be in. Practice helps, but you can't do it in an empty chamber without any influence.

Drawing humans are usually my weakness, especially in terms of posture and form. Utroms are a little easier in some aspects because there's so much less "body", but then that comes with more complications. Like how physical interaction works. Palling around and hugging and things. I'm trying to decide if they generally don't kiss because it would be hard to do with their enormous mouths, they just do something different.

I actually just finished this, and it came with difficulty on the setting, since I had drawn the characters independent of any kind of room/seating. And because I couldn't decide on a bed or couch...pillow town. Which I guess is where they sleep.

http://orig14.deviantart.net/1718/f/2017/119/1/b/don_t_poke_by_bat_snake-db7lbq3.png
On this one, I got sick of trying to get one side of the mother's face to match the other, so I just copied and flipped it...which ended up looking a lot better than I expected it to.

(I made a mistake and put two shots of rum in a coke instead of one...)

One thing I want to expand from is Utrom families and just do a lot more, but habit keeps me grounded. So that's another thing. Try to expand a little bit from comfort zones. But don't push yourself, that would make it a little harder. Just start with what you can, take advice, look at online tutorials, and let it grow on its own.

I bounce between things. I do a lot of pencil & paper sketches, but sometimes I make start things from scratch on a digital program. Usually Photoshop (Creative Cloud). But the last two are from Medibang Pro, which is a free program you should totally try out.

Early on, I did pen and paper, but because I started doing more complex Utroms, I stopped.

This thing from early November, for example, when I was on break at work and there was only a red pen in my reach

It's very much a "before sunrise, he's your son" situation.

I did a whole bunch of Krang and Ch'rell. Whose relationship I think is...a lot more than strictly professional.

https://img06.deviantart.net/7649/i/2017/221/e/7/krang_and_ch_rell_page_by_bat_snake-dbjib4a.jpg
With the beard design, Ch'rell is something of a MAN'S MAN in terms of how thick his is, doubled with that he's already a pretty big dude as it is.
I depict Utrom biology as being "weird" in that a few individuals can have fairly flexible sexes, and the degree of that flexibility can surprise an individual in one way or another. Ch'rell gets such a surprise.

https://img08.deviantart.net/b88d/i/2017/221/c/4/krang__chrell__and_aska_by_bat_snake-dbjib3u.jpg

I've depicted Aska here before, but never elaborated that Krang is her other parent, because of the way things get on here. She ends up being their sole child, for obvious reasons. And thus, Aska grows up with a lot of attention - packed on with the attention she already gets being the Emperor's grandchild.

The idea of Krang and Ch'rell as fathers comes as a shock to their enemies (and even some other Utroms), and even greater when they're attentive to her - which is no surprise to their allies, the Lords of Hyperion (one of which Krang is talking to on a communication screen). Aska was even named after a Lord of Hyperion female who helped them during a dire period of political unrest while Ch'rell was pregnant. They nicknamed her "Fish" on account of how she looked when she'd be buried in their whiskers. A bit like a fish in an anemone or seaweed. This is the first time I've depicted Lords of Hyperion on here, and I'd like to do a little more with them.

Krang and Ch'rell take Aska pretty much everywhere with them - like what Temre used to do with Krang; it's a necessity. Even if that means Ch'rell taking naps under desks for a little bit until something comes up. Be it a meeting or having to feed the baby. Or both. Which is quite the thing to get used to.

Aunt Ma'riell is around enough to help out. Which meant giving Aska attention so her dads could get a little work done. They COULD hire an au pair, but they decided not to for reasons I'm not sure of yet. I guess it would have been a "we've gone this far, why not go all the way?"

There's a little bit of Aska when she's older here. From teething to her first heartbreak. Which on the part of the heartbreaker, probably wasn't the best idea.

I think he was pretty much a mooch who was taking advantage of her being the Emperor's granddaughter, and the daughter of the General and Colonel. Eventually she caught on and was naturally hurt. Ch'rell's response was to figure out what he had taken off her, only to find certain behaviors inappropriate for someone underage...and told his Aristocrat parents.

There's a colored version now.

Aska doesn't actually know what's down the Pain Hole. She just likes watching people drop into it.

I don't know why I didn't think of this as an addition, since it didn't come to me until right after I finished it

Time for an update after a little while.

With more Aska. This time as a teenager

Getting something pretty...and not looking incredibly cute...

And following her realization that maybe her first boyfriend was a punk exploiting her position as a princess, as was the suspicion.

<2003 Shredder theme>

No exes were harmed, just given a terrifying warning to never show himself to the family again.

A return to Garaon, my concept for Krang having a younger brother. Ever since naming him, I've known in the back of my head that I just HAD to do a "Gaston" joke since the names sound so similar. Though Garaon is a little more of a Lumiere in personality than a Gaston. But, I still had to do it.

His best friend is a Protoceraton named Brugo.

Garaon isn't nearly as beardy as Krang either in my depiction of Utroms, which ends up doing him a service in the Lady Department since he looks a little less imposing.

Another update, right after the other at that :D

This time, I just re-lined and colored something PrincessUtrom did many months ago, with Obligado and Nalmar.

It always felt very autumnal to me...and it probably helps that I watched Over the Garden Wall while working on it.

It's been an extremely long time since I've drawn Temre, so I thought it best to remedy that.

I did not intend as much depiction from his youth as this, but that's just what ended up happening. When it comes to injuries, she's very much a "Silly boy, I told you this would happen if you did that thing" type of parent before she's a comforting one.

It ended up meaning trying to figure out what a pregnancy with twins looks like for Utroms, since my take on TMNT has Krang as an eldest child, with twin sisters right after him.

I decided that for more dynamic posing, I'd lengthen the back legs/tentacles some more. And now that I've started putting beards on my design for male Utroms, there's more distinction from Krang...who otherwise would be the spitting image of his mother with a few exceptions of alleles.
