Hello, folks. I'm a figure customizer, and while I've lurked these boards for a while, this is my first post. Since these figures were TMNT-themed, I thought I'd share them here. You can see other stuff I've made at www.slaphappynorth.com

First, Krang: I wanted to do something different than the Marvel Legends I'd done in the past--I wanted to build something random, original, and unconstrained. I was collecting TMNT and thought, almost no one does OT-style Turtle customs. I settled on the idea that Krang had grown himself an organic body, and off I went to make a new 1990's era Turtle figure.

The base figure is a Playmates First Appearance Leo, resculpted head to foot. The head and tentacle hands are from an OT Krang, because I wanted to keep the classic look and build from it. New neck joint from Transformers Construct Bots set. The backpack/life support unit was cut from a ML Mojo BAF piece, as were the bulbs on the shoulder pads. Shoulder pads themselves were cut down from Lego Bionicle parts. Hoses from McFarlane toys. (Yes, I still have McFarlane kibble in my bins.) Laser pistol came from a NeoShifter build set. Robot tentacle is from a MU Octo-Spidey figure of some kind. The big gun is maybe from a early 2000s Lego type set? I forget what it was. Also, a few Gundam parts and some RCA cables are in there.

This base figure: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71elbD31%2BsL._SY355_.jpg became this Krang over several months:

Next is a mash-up I'd been wanting to do since watching Boardwalk Empire on HBO. If you haven't seen the show, watch Seasons 1-3...then quit!

So now we know what Krang looked like before he lost his body and was banished to Earth

Agreed. Needs his own comic, TV show, and toy line!

That Krang is so wild and zany. Gives me that odd and freaky feeling I used to have when checking out all the old gnarly playmates toys as a kid. And BRAVO on originality on that Boardwalk Empire leo. That's so wtf and random. love it.

Thanks for the comments, folks, I do appreciate. The great thing about working with Turtles is how crazy you can get with original, off-the wall concepts.

I've got a Robot Splinter and some more repaints I hope to get wrapped up soon, and several more mash-ups I'm planning.

Wow, I expected to be back before six months, but life, you know? Anyway, something new...

The Turtle Reaper
http://www.slaphappynorth.com/tmnt/tmnt_reaper5.jpg

Initially I was just going to paint Playmates Mystic Turtles Donatello's parts black and call it a day, but that still looked too plain. Maybe because the Mystic Turtles started off utterly devoid of color, I wanted the issue OVER-corrected. I started adding parts, and then pallette swapped some red in, then added more parts. Then I started listening to metal, and then I hung chain on it.

And Voila, I invented Spawn!

Wait, no, that was somebody else. My figure, I called Turtle Reaper. Here it is...

Parts List: Mystic Donnie w/ neck lengthened, MOTUC Grizzlor axe, Claybourne Moore Lady Death sword, Marvel Legends Black Cat claw whip, ML Black Panther cape heated and re-formed , Jolly Rodger (car model) skull, ML Kraven pouch, chain, and lead added to the hollow feet.

Thanks for taking time to comment, all!

I was hoping to keep one thread going and update the title when I add new stuff--is there a way to edit the thread title? I tried editing the original post, but it looks like the post title changed and I can't edit the thread title.

May have to make a new thread for each custom, I guess?

Great stuff! I always particularly liked your Masters of the Universe figures too! Do you remember being one of a handful of people posting on Delphi Forums a few years ago? Everyone seems to have moved away from the hobby for various reasons since then

God yes! There's still a very few of us left from those days, mostly still at FWOOSH. I was actually on the original listserv that pre-dated Delphi, back when we just mailed each other links to our customs. Now I'm old!
