Which was the best? Fred Wolf, Next Mutation, 4Kids, 2007 movie, Nick, or Bay Turtles?

I vote Fred Wolf. The figures were bright, fun, and had some cool action figures. I especially love the soft goods.

I have a natural affinity for the FW turtles but if I saw those Nick turtles in stores as a kid they would easily replace my originals. 2k3 had the best lair and vehicles to me though.

I'll always remember how in awe I was of the first wave of the 4Kids figures. It was probably Wal-Mart where I first saw them. Just seeing the new Turtle sculpts with a load of accessories, all fully-colored, was an incredible feeling. Amazingly, my mom bought me the whole set as a surprise. I was a college sophomore and my roommate and I had a ton of fun posing them in our dorm.

Strictly Playmates, you mean? The original, no doubt about it. 4kids' started off wonderfully, the articulation was decent, great paint apps (even painted weapons!) but it quickly went down the tube in a fashion similar to that of Nick's, so I gotta give my vote to the OG's. Those funky characters/sculpts, the craziest variants ever, super creative weapons, unique card art bursting with life, lots of color, more variety than you can shake a stick at, the vehicles, playsets, just so much dopeness.

no option for 2016 oots figures.

The Michael Bay option should cover that entire franchise.

No. "Michael Bay (2014)" is not the new movie.
Also, Michael Bay has nothing to do with the toys. We don't call the 1991 movie "Pressman turtles".

The original "Fred Wolf" inspired toyline was by far the best.

Playmates has gone seriously downhill ever since in creativity, sculpting, and paintjobs.

There's just no love for what they're producing now and it's all so lacking.

That selection was obviously meant to cover the modern film series across the board. Fred Wolf had nothing to do with the 1987 series toys, but we know damn well that's what they're supposed to be.

I thought Mew was like your best buddy, but lately you're busting his chops a lot over technicalities. Is a divorce in the works?

Etsy's just trying out his "holier-than-thou" act. He's going through puberty and trying to act all grown up and cool.

I really dug the 2007 figures mostly because of the scale and articulation.

The originals are still the best all things considered. Later lines started strong, but didn't go the distance, and while the original Playmates run went in some weird directions, the build and design quality didn't seem to suffer.

The newspaper clippings are awesome.

Anyway back to the topic. I say Fred Wolf era hands down. The great sculpts, the bright vibrant paint apps, the creativity on display was fantastic.

Just looking at a pile of toys from the Fred Wolf era and the comparing it to the Nick turtles makes the Nick stuff seem so bland.

The next mutations line had some cool figures in it. The fact that it was right after the Fred wolf stuff means not a lot had changed at that point quality wise. The Elite Foot Guard is an honourable mention but the line never took off and had a chance to grow.

Where the Fred Wolf era stuff was a lot of the Mirage guys pitching stuff, whether it had a place in cartoons and comics or was its own thing, meant more in the way of creativity than trying to stay true to a show like Nickelodeon. Without this creativity we wouldn't have the great Canadian mutant hero Monty Moose. :P

The 4kids show got me back to collecting TMNT at that time and the quality started great but as Powder mentioned it fizzled out not too long after.

The new movie figures that just launched are some of the best stuff playmates has done in a while so it's great to see some effort being put in.

Playmates for sure. The number of different characters we got is just amazing. And then there's the nostalgia...😀

id have to say the Michael Bay movie lines from whats listed, purely because the villians have the same decent articulation as the turtles of that line as opposed to the nick line were villians may as well be statues.

however id actually say the Mega Bloks ninja tutles line are the best (classics & current movie stuff due to articulation, nick stuff is kinda meh like the playmates toys)

The original line had some amazing figures and seemed very on-point for its time, the 2k3 stuff was pretty good too, mostly the earlier stuff. Nick had a great start, but it's been mostly downhill from there.

Not here.

Besides, objectively speaking, the toyline was pretty good, whether or not the show was.

Aside from Venus, I actually like Next Mutation as its own dumb little show. It's not the worst thing ever, but it's not nearly as bad as people say it is

OG line, hands down. It was pumped with originality: a great many of the best loved characters and vehicles come from this line. It defined what toylines would be like throughout the early 90s. It is full of detail and fun features. As toys evolved through the 90s, you'd expect them to as well. Every line since has in fact faltered underneath Transformers. 2003 line went with a more accurate, less detailed look, which unfortunately resulted in some very boring figures for those without interest in the show. The lack of articulation didn't help. But there were several quite good figures, but there was a clearer line between essentials and non-essentials. The current line had a great start but declined to near-Jazwares levels of suck as it went on. The first wave seemed like a logical evolution of the original line. And the 2007 movie stuff...

Groan.

My vote went to 2Kids.
Despite admiting the wierd variety of figures we all enjoyed in the FW era, some of them seem to absurd for me, and the industry was not so developed back in the time to produce great articulated action figures.
So the 4Kids line lack this exotic stragavanza of marine turtles, adventure costumes etc but it's in my opinion a very loyal line to its cartoon conterpart, went deep enough into secondary characters and, in my memory, their turtles variations weren't as 'same thing again' as the present Nicks.

I also must admit the 4Kids line is the one missing in my collection, so maybe that makes me want them too much and not very absolutely objetctive about them :P

Nice pool aniways!
