Itching to see progress for the long awaited LOZ title.

We'll probably see a lot of it. Apparently Nintendo's whole E3 is Zelda. Rumor is they won't even do a Digital Event like previous years, just straight up Zelda on the show floor.

I think this is the least hyped I've been for one in a while.

Maybe subconsciously because this is the first in some time that hasn't run on my birthday?

E3 doesn't seem as exciting for me anymore. I think Sony and MS will have fun conferences but without Nintendo doing anything big I'm a bit bummed since they're the company I am most interested in. The fact that a bunch of other big third party companies are also pulling out it makes the event feel smaller.

Anyone remember 10 years ago or so when E3 was also made "smaller" for basically the same reasons that it didn't need to be as big and instead made another less interesting event "E for All". That lasted two years I think and then it went back to its normal hype machine mode. I kind of feel like that is happening again and it made sense ten years ago so it definitely makes sense for E3 not to be that important but the little kid in me wants the full fanboy experience.

The only thin I really want from Nintendo is Zelda news so I'm fine with that.

However, out of everything on the horizon, I am most hype for FFXV. I am losing my **** waiting for that hottness. Thank god I only got hype for it in the past six months because if it looked that good in the 2006 trailer, I would be a puddle right now.

Also, can we get a release date on The Last Guardian finally, plz??

The VR phase will die off just like motion controls did. Everyone will be hyped in the beginning, and by the end of this current console cycle people will be wishing it never existed.I beg to differ. Motion controls felt about as gimmicky as gimmicks can get, not to mention 9/10 titles had clumsy and awkward integration of it. VR is actually immersive and can give you real feelings of being there. It's hard to describe, but.. I wouldn't write it off just yet. There's insurmountable more potential in VR than motion controllers.

He means there's no such thing as INTERESTING VR news.Ah, so he was just being snarky

If you've played other adventure or open world games, Zelda's not really all that different. The puzzles in most Zelda dungeons are also relatively simple since they're designed so kids can get through them too.

I was only 13 years old when I played Ocarina for the first time on the N64, and even back then I was able to beat the game and discover most things on my own.

One thing I'm sick of is companies showing these cinematic trailers to showcase their games instead of the actual gameplay. When we all know these CG trailers and the actual game look nothing alike in terms of graphics, and you don't get a good grasp of the gameplay in-game with these CG commercials. I'm sure others have noticed this throughout the years.

Also was the Dishonored II trailer the same exact one they showed last year? Because it sure seemed familiar.

Without Nintendo I'm just not hyped for E3. Funnily enough it's them who would get me excited and go on black-out mode until I watched every press conference but since they wont have any I don't care to watch any of the other conferences so I'll just read the announcements instead of waiting to see the conferences.

quick predictions:

Sony: They'll have the worst conference since they blew their load last year and they'll mostly talk about the same things again, they don't have the PS4K Neo whatever to show either and people's expectations are super high after last eyar.

Microsoft: This will help Microsoft as their conference will be nothing special but will likely end up having more stuff than Sony.

Nintendo: I'm sure during their treehouse they'll show off other stuff besides Zelda even if it's the titles we already know are coming for later this year. Zelda will probably get people very excited as well. Everyone is being such a downer about no Direct and because of that if nintendo shows any signs of life people will get extremely excited.

I think the only game Sony showcased from E3 2015 that came out was Uncharted 4, and that was just a month ago. Half the games I just mentioned aren't even coming out till 2017, which was 2 years later.

You mean...like nearly everything in the industry? I've seen this parroted all over the place today, but we're buried in remasters, people just got done celebrating another TPS from Naughty Dog and the 5th Souls game in 6 years, but Microsoft needs new stuff? Video games are stale as F*CK across the board.

Halo needs a rest, I agree, but Gears hasn't had a proper sequel in 5 years and hasn't had a new entry PERIOD in 3. Forza is safe and boring and for a specific crowd. Dead Rising has had 3 real entries in 10 years. DR3 came out 3 years ago. Meanwhile, Sea of Thieves, ReCore and Scalebound apparently don't exist at all?

This industry f*cking sucks right now for people who don't buy into hype.

1. Kojima's new game...nothing to say about it. Another example of a CG trailer with no gameplay.

2. Resident Evil 7 looks ridiculous, nothing like Resident Evil. I wouldn't mind if it was another spinoff like all the other RE spinoffs, but this being a mainline numbered game is odd. I don't even know what to make of it.

3. The new Spiderman game looks cool. It would be great if we had a well done modern Spiderman similar to the PS3 Batman Arkham games at least.

4. God of War reboot looks like it can be interesting.

Other than that, not much to say. Horizon looks a bit too much like a Ubisoft open world game for my tastes but I'm still hyped for it. Everything else was expected, not interested in another zombie game.

Hm, also interesting The Last Guardian come out this year. The game was announced in 2009, I really hope waiting 7 years for it was worth it.

I feel like Sony is trying to make every one of their franchises look like Uncharted and The Last of Us:

- God of War
- Days Gone

Literally all gave me the same exact vibe with the open wilderness and the slow cinematic movements until the action scenes came.

Capcom confirmed all of Resident Evil 7 is in first person. And you play as a regular person and not any one of the major characters. Sounds like a spinoff similar to those old PS2 Dead Aim series or the rail-shooters on the Wii like Umbrella Chronicles.

No idea why this is a numbered mainline sequel. Its basically nothing of what the series is known for. Might as well call it a different franchise altogether.

Iím glad Crash Bandicoot is back, but Iím a bit disappointed that itís just remasters of the original games. I was hoping for a completely new game inspired by the classics, but Iím looking forward to seeing what they can do to improve the originals besides better graphics. I hope the trilogy gets a physical release.

So Crash is in Skylanders now...which is what nearly every Crash Bandicoot fan has feared since 2011. But on the plus side they absolutely nailed his look in the game. He looks nearly exactly like he did in the original concept art by Charles Zembillas. Iíll definelty be getting the Crash figure, but I donít know anything about the Skylanders games so Iím unsure about getting the new one. If I donít have to buy any other characters and I can play the whole game as Crash then I might consider it.

Hoping things sell well enough to justify a Crash Team Racing remaster. Maybe even a brand new Crash gameÖhopefully.

The recent explosion in Crash nostalgia makes absolutely zero sense to me.

Every Sony game looks exactly the same. Competently written, gorgeously rendered, mechanically neutered third-person action shooter.

Their conference was pretty good though. Nothing mind-blowing, like their hot-air bullsh*t that blew the roof off of the easily hyped last year, but they killed it by showing game after game, as uninteresting as most of them were.

So the big games of 2017 are already looking packed:

- Mass Effect Andromeda
- Horizon: Zero Dawn
- God of War
- Spiderman PS4
- Shemnue 3
- Resident Evil 7
- FF7 remake (maybe)
- RE2 remake (maybe)

Also rumors of a Red Dead 2 next year, which makes sense as Rockstar always keeps their games quiet till they announce a date.

-Gravity Rush 2 (almost finished playing the game for the first time on the PS4)
-Resident Evil - I'm personally so tired of what Resident Evil has become, this looks refreshing...not exactly what I wanted, but I'll take it over 5 and 6 anyday

More than that, it's the fact that people are going to theatres to be marketed to, lapping it down like good little kids, then taking to the Internet to spread the gospel and put down everything that they haven't been told to have interest in.

I've seen some really poignant discussions about the pluses/minuses of both the Sony and MS stuff yesterday, but most of it has been drowned out by people screaming loudly that Sony has no equal. Maybe it's because I really really don't care for games where you slow walk between scripted action set-pieces, but I really don't know how to handle the industry moving further and further towards these "experience" games and away from gameplay first philosophies. The fact that people are loudest for the least interesting form of video games is a huge bummer.

Maybe I'm getting old.

I'm done to death with shooters and fighting games so much so that I simply don't have the attention span to finish anymore. I'm still only about halfway done Uncharted 3 and Last of Us is still in shrink wrap.

So, I'm all for "experiences" so long as they're engaging. If it's something new or different, I'll check it out. I enjoyed Firewatch. I enjoyed Oxenfree. I enjoyed Gone Home. I bought The Division since it's all my friends play and after playing it for about 2-3 weeks, I'm just bored.

That's just kinda it. I'm bored of games.

Maybe thats why VR is appealing to me. The few times I've played it I actually felt like I was doing something different than what I've been doing for the past 20 years.

VR is but the gameplay is still very much the same. Once again, Capcom misinterprets what people want and end up just following the trend.

The problem is a lot of these games feel too similar even when they're completely different franchises. There's only so much wilderness I can explore using a bow and arrow to hunt deer and upgrade weapons/armor before it all feels too similar.

Sony is trying to turn every game into Uncharted/Last Of Us, and Ubisoft's open world formula with Far Cry and Assassin's Creed has rubbed off to every other franchise. Even Zelda is moving in on it.

Sony press conference was awesome - no water, just games. Some of them were even interesting. Dad of War and Naked Reedus simulator have particularly caught my attention. Never was fan of crazy emo Kratos. Unrestrained Kojima will be interesting.

Resident Evil 7 also was fun, being very similar to the Silent Hill.

CyberCubed

Every open world game follows the same formula:

- Huge empty space with nothing to do but roam around in and weak enemies to fight/run past

- Your map is filled with pointless objective markers usually for fetch quests

- You have one main mission marker for where you're supposed to go next to continue the main story

- Now you have settlements/hub area for building/crafting/trading material you have to stock up on

- You have enemy areas/settlements/towers to take down to open up more parts of the map

- Since you can technically go almost anywhere you want, the game's overworld doesn't really change or grow harder depending on what you do with rare exceptions

Luckily Zelda is still going to have traditional dungeons, so we'll still have that Zelda formula there.

Because games being open world is a bad thing.

It is. It has become the defacto standard for games now and it's a bad trend. Create a giant lifeless world, fill it with repetitive bullsh*t tasks, then sprinkle in a few hours of actually designed gameplay for the story and call it a day. It's mindless garbage for mindless people.

Good open world games exist, but they're now fewer and farther between. For every Witcher 3 there are 5 Ubisoft games.

I'm skeptical about the new LOZ. I like the art style but it looks barren as hell, far more graphically inferior than I expected, & the Skyrim-esque survival elements are off-putting to me.

Really don't understand people being let down by the graphics. Like...dudes...it's decade old hardware? Were people expecting miracles? People complained the same way about WW, but that game looks 500x better all these years later than anything else from that generation. Let's at least wait to see how sharp the NX version looks before throwing shade? Also, we're seeing it via low-bitrate streams. By all accounts the game looks great in person.

Also, Skyrim doesn't have survival elements? Why do I keep reading this?

CyberCubed

I've retired from Ubisoft games for this reason, besides a new Rayman, Beyond Good and Evil, or Splinter Cell.

Assassin's Creed peaked last gen, Far Cry 3 was the last one worth buying, and I have no interest in Watch Dogs/The Division, etc. I'm pretty much done with Batman Arkham games too if they make another one.

Metal Gear Solid V was also ruined by going open world. Hopefully Horizon turns out good though as its my most anticipated game from its reveal.

Hey, I've never before been one to give Nintendo sh*t about graphics, gameplay comes first. But graphically (not stylistically) it seems like it's on par with Skyward Sword, & I'm not faulting the resolution for that. I expected it to look better than this, not Godly, just better. I don't see how stating my opinion is "throwing shade" but okay.

I don't play Skyrim, I was just going by second-hand accounts. I was under the impression it had hunting, preparing food, etc in it. Whoopsie daisy. Minecraft-esque survival elements better phrasing?

Hypeless E3 sucks, I think even in past E3s that sucked the experience of following things is more fun than the actual content. I'm sure I've seen worse E3s than this one and yet this one just seems boring and I think it's because I wasn't following the news or watched any conferences. The build up even if disappointing is what makes E3 great, hopefully I can ride the hype train next year.

On the plus side I saved a bunch of time checking out any trailers of stuff that was getting attention or that interested me instead of checking out so much stuff I have little to no interest in. RE7 I only saw the trailer and have no idea what the gameplay is like but it seemed simple, back to basics and scary so if the actual demo/game can live up to that it seems like a win to me. Zelda also looked great, the first thing I thought of when I saw the fire burning the bushes was the original game, later I read that was the inspiration for this game. I also thought the graphics were disappointing but I like that Zelda is keeping the cel-shaded art style for most of its incarnations. I don't like Link wearing blue as the main outfit, it looks cool but I'm a purist. That's all that interested me from E3.

I've actually changed my mind after seeing the treehouse gameplay. You're definitely onto something for paying attention to the technology but I say this is after Ocarina of Time but before Wind Waker.

First off, there's the Temple of Time but it's also said by the old man that Hyrule Kingdom is in ruins and that the Temple of Time is in a state of decay. Ganon is also said to be the villain by those dudes in the shrines so I feel that Hyrule has gone to sh*t and has been under Ganon's rule since The Hero of Time disappeared. Also, the fact that there's koroks and lots of Wind Waker music and sound effects in the game make me believe it's indeed in the adult timeline and with the Temple of Time being present, this would be pre-flood which would also explain why advanced technology isn't present in other games which is because it got wiped out by the flood. And all the time that has passed since Ocarina would be more than enough for the kokiri to turn into koroks.

"Breath of the Wild" sounds like an odd title. Maybe it's mostly the "breath" part.

This week, from Tuesday to Saturday, The Nintendo NY store in Manhattan is giving people an opportunity to play sample demos of the game this week. I was one of those people, and I got to try it out this morning. The controls seemed simple enough, and for those of you who don't think the graphics look too impressive, I think it might help if you saw them in person. When I first saw the game in action, I thought the graphics were like that of The Wind Waker and Skyward Sword combined.

There are two parts to the demo, and the whole thing goes on for about an hour. I just realized that it would have been nice if one of the demos was in a dungeon.
