I was thinking "Hamato!" when that scene came, but then I remembered: April named them so they wouldnt have that. I'm pretty sure that's the case with IDW turtles too.

Do you think they should have one?

No. If they had said Hamato it would make matters worse given the whole Saki/Yoshi thing seems not to exist.

A brief scary thought went through my head when that scene happened. I thought they were going to look at April as their surrogate mother and say O'Niel.

Thank Christ...

Why should they have last names? They were all lab animals in this version, Leonardo's real name is probably "Test subject L15-D90" or something.

Within the context of the PD universe, "who's Hamato?"

Maybe April's family could have bought them from some Hamato Yoshi guy?

When I saw that my inital reaction was 'Yoshi'.

In certain Asian cultures (like Indian or Sri Lankan) the fathers first name is used as the last name. So if the turtles did that they could be Leonardo Splinter or Raphael Splinter...

Well it doesn't work very well but at least they have a last name

That's retarded.

In japan it's actually backwards. So Hamato Yoshi for splinter his real first name is Yoshi his "last" is hamato. So for the turtles it would be hamato Leonardo, hamato Raphael, hamato Michaelangelo, and hamato Donatello.

Aren't there last name Hamato in the IDW comics? since they were reincarnated.

I'd think so they have never really ever gone by there full names I know that fans use the full Hamato name. But they're more into headcanon stuff

Never seen that in IDW comics from what I remember. Only fans call em that.

Technically yes they just don't use it. The one time I remember is when the won the first part of the gauntlet and splinter said victory belongs to clan hamato or something like that

They are technically Hamato, cause the 4 Turtles and Splinter were all related in a past life, They were Hamato Yoshi's sons.

Technically they wouldn't be called Hamato Leonardo, Hamato Raphael etc. Because did they use Hamato Splinter? No. It should be their past lives' names like Hamato Yoshi. Hamato ____? The children's past lives names were never stated.

In this new life, they go with the names April gave them: Splinter, Leonardo, etc. No last names.

I liked Mikey's reaction to the last name thing "Hey I never thought about that...that's not fair!"

Yeah that was pretty funny. I almost expe ted them to look at Splinter and he just says Hamato, thinking of a Japanese-sounding name on the spot. At least that way they could have had the name there even if its just a name.

Really wish they'd find some clever way to fit Yoshi into this... :ohwell:

Think, Splinter, can't you remember anything? An owner or something before winding up homeless and in an evil lab?

With B & R existing now and introducing humans being mutated, I really wish they'd gone with previously human Splinter...

Ah, made me remember something. If they can't find a clever, believable way to use Hamato (although I'd really prefer it), I have another suggestion:

http://turtlepedia.wikia.com/wiki/Splinterson
Splinterson is a patronymic used by the Ninja Turtles in the 4Kids television series.

Leonardo first mentions that the Ninja Tribunal call him "Leonardo Splinterson" in the voice-over introduction for More Worlds Than One.
Agree with the quote there from Laird, prefer Hamato as well, but gotta make do with what PD has set up.
