View Full Version : Half-Shell Heroes: Merry Mutants TV special?

I noticed the description of a book called 'Merry Mutants (https://www.amazon.com/Mutants-Teenage-Mutant-Turtles-Golden/dp/0399551190/)' coming out later this year mentions a 'television event'.

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61banY3j13L.jpg

"The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles save the world (again) in an all-new television event based on the Half-Shell Heroes toy line.
This full-color, hardcover storybook is sure to thrill children ages 3 to 7."

It would make sense since the 'Blast to the Past' special also had a Big Golden Book release.

I wonder if it will take place right after Blast to the Past, at the end of it, they traveled to the future.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Christmas specials to death, so a new TMNT one in the HSH style would be fantastic. That being said, though, the generic description combined with the cover not having ANY HSH branding on it makes me skeptical. It almost seems like they're reusing a description for their previous "Blast to the Past" book or one in the works based on an unrelated unannounced HSH special. We'll see, but the cover and the description don't really seem to match up.

We should get a regular christmas special but I'm down with a HSH style. Christmas specials are the best though. The He-Man one is a f*cking goldmine.

Halloween specials are dope as well but nothing beats Christmas

I'm sure this one will be online before it airs on Nickelodeon, like they did with Blast to the Past.

So another adaptation of this or would an orphanage strain the budget?

Given the Christmas theme, we will likely have to wait until the holiday season to see this.

IndigoErth

That would be awesome. I've wished we'd get some legit holiday episodes (and not necessarily just Christmas), so a Half Shell special would do nicely.

I miss how holiday specials were sort of a thing back in the 80s and somewhat 90s. If the Turtles had holiday episodes that became a tradition with today's kids the way the Charlie Brown, Garfield, etc specials were/are... that would be a beautiful thing.

This time hopefully will not adapt the Michelangelo special so we get a second Christmas story with TMNT. The 2003 episode adaptation was great and all especially the new bits with the Christmas dinner guest, but I would like to see an original plot.

Still confused that the OT never had a Christmas special.

That was one of the two sins that are hard to get over. No Christmas episode and the series finale was against Dregg not Shredder.

Please don't let it be a rehash of the Christmas Carol. I know the story is a classic, but that cow has been milked dry.

There has already been a Mr. Magoo version, Disney version, Peter pan and the pirates had an episode centered around this plot, muppets version, a TV musical version starring Kelsey Grammer, a version starring Jim Carry, ghost busters version, MLP:FIM has very recently done a version (i.e. they had their christmas episode in may of this year).

While it might be interesting to have a Turtles Version, i doubt it wouldn't not come along as convoluted.

If they did A Christmas Carol, I'd rather it was done separate some other year with the actual series characters. Half Shell look like such little kids, I'd rather some other cute story to go along with them.

Maybe they'll save Christmas and hang out with Santa, but that's been done a million times, too. :trazz:

Yes, please!

Can you imagine how cool it would be to see a mutagenic North Pole occupied by insectoid elves and squirrelanoid-esque reindeer?

Got any ideas for what Mutant Santa could be?

I know it's not exactly imaginative, but I was thinking a twisted & mangled giant snowman.

Looking at the description from the original poster, there is nothing said about this being a Christmas special, when it would be aired, or if it would be based around this particular book.

It's just a notice that there will be a televised event based off half-shelled heroes. As far as we know it could be based off where Half-Shelled Heros ends in Blast to the Past.

And if it is a Christmas Special, they could be wanting to keep it under wraps so as to not spoil the surprise of what will happen. In other words, do not reveal until the holiday season.

Ok, I couldn't cancel my order in time and this came yesterday.

- It's much bigger than your average Golden Book.

- As reported, it's a half ass adaption of Target: April O'Neil, except after a blizzard.

- The art is what you'd expect, except in the middle of no where there's a really great splash page of Donnie and Raph attacking Chrome Dome.

- Right after that is another good page, except the violence is offscreen. BUT, right behind Leo is some freakin Usagi Yojimbo graffiti lol.

- The back description says nothing about a tv special.

Okay, that's weird that it happens in wintertime. But I like how they have a graffiti of Usagi. Maybe that will show up in the actual show!

IndigoErth
10-01-2016, 06:39 PM
While I wouldn't mind seeing the art, that's disappointing if it isn't it's own unique story. :tsad:

Much like putting Willy Wonka on tv a million times as a "holiday movie" for multiple holidays a year (and prob not the old one), because candy. Just shoehorn it in...I hate when people do that. I miss when shows did real holiday specials and whatnot. Don't bother making something holiday oriented unless it's actually related...

(Bad enough I've been seeing Star Wars and Disney Halloween books/color books, but no TMNT which would have been cute.)
