It seems Rob Liefeld is going to approach Peter Laird to do some Mirage-universe TMNT comics together with him. Or maybe he already has.

How do you feel about that?

#1, I'm fairly certain Peter will tell him "No," if only because he himself has no interest in producing or overseeing new TMNT material (and the nature of the 18 comics deal, Peter would legally have to be greatly involved). But... would it be so bad if he said "Yeah, sure"? I think it'd be a lot of fun, and bring a bit of attention to the Mirage TMNT.

Peter will always and forever more say "no." You can set your watches to it.

You lost me at Rob Liefeld.

What exactly did Liefeld do to the head of "nic" licensing? I love how nonchalantly he brings it up lol

This will never happen...unless it does...but 100% it won't.

As much as I'd love to see the Mirage TMNT again, I'd say "hell no" to Rob Liefeld. Just seeing the human anatomy butchered just rubs me the wrong way. You could sit a wine glass on Cap's "chest". I've no clue how he is as a writer but it'll grind my teeth if we get bulked out versions like the PD turtles.

As much as I'd love to see the Mirage TMNT again, Rob Liefeld is not one of my favorite artists. Just seeing the human anatomy on his latest pieces just rubs me the wrong way. I don't know how he is as a writer but it'll grind my teeth if we get bulked out versions like the PD turtles.

Assuming Peter Laird would be deeply involved (and again, he'd have to be), I don't see Peter allowing him to go crazy with that.

Pouches, no feet, and characters built on the PD models.
What's not to love?

We all know it'll never happen, but I'd check it out if it did.

Ah, So Rob Liefeld doesn't get along with IDW? that's interesting, I wonder why, Could be cause of how he draws comic book characters, that's the one criticism I hear from a lot of people.

That's not too bad. Not crazy about the double chins or elongated tops of heads, but not terrible. With a bit of work it could be workable.

I can't see Laird getting on board.

But if he did, it could be insanely amusing.

We really don't know Peter. He once said he would jump at the chance -- even long post-sale -- to do a comic with Stan Sakai if Stan was down. While I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be profound to say that probably Peter never had Rob's Image comics on his pull-list (like, any of them), maybe the co-creator of Deadpool could be the similar sort of shot in the arm, who knows. It would definitely garner (comic) media attention.

In what would most likely be a Peter Laird mostly-written (Rob only appears to be readily interested in drawing Turtles) tale, in what legally has to be Mirage and in black and white?

It absolutely would be canonical. It kind of has to be.

My comment was more of a joke but I see what you mean.

Peter Laird is allowed to publish TMNT books provided they are related to the Mirage Universe, I agree.

Yet, does it necessarily mean these stories should be canon?

I can't see why it couldn't be kind of an Elseworld/What if story.
In my opinion this wouldn't be an infringement to the agreement.

Rob's done a few variant covers for IDW's G.I. Joe and Transformers comics in the past few years, so I'd imagine he's talking about the people at Nickelodeon.

The only connection between Rob and Nick I can think of is that Mat Nastos (http://outlandentertainment.com/mat-nastos-artist-author-interview/) is/was slated to write Liefeld's newest Brigade comics and he's written for kids' TV in past (including Nickelodeon shows, I think)

Maybe cause Nickelodeon might be too picky when it comes to TMNT, its still a Kids property in there eyes, so him teaming up with Laird might mean he wants to do a more mature TMNT comic.

One've my favourite things on the internet is this: http://www.progressiveboink.com/2012/4/21/2960508/worst-rob-liefeld-drawings

I could imagine lots of pouches, crazy anatomy and no feet. Sounds like a blast, I'd definitely check it out!

He doesn't get along with many people. I personally know only 2 artists who have any involvement with the comic book industry and one of them got in a screaming match with Liefeld and consequently lost their job. He's a primadonna.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing drawings NOT comics of the turtles with the giant biceps and extra pouches.

If the contract specifically says it has to be Mirage universe -- and apparently it does, as well as in black and white -- then writing a story that's in an Elseworlds to that universe... makes it not in that universe and in a contractual no man's land. That's the way I'd interpret it, anyway.

Well, at least it wouldn't be a Liefeld-Eastman collaboration. Can you imagine a TMNT comic written by Eastman and drawn by Liefeld?

...Wait. On second thought, don't. I don't hate anyone here.
