In today's politically correct and social justice society, would the song, "Walk like an Egyptian" be considered offensive and trigger people if it came out as a song today?

Back in olden times people didn't care about that stuff, but now that everyone has computers and a voice to be heard. Its a different story.

Yeah, it'd be considered offensive nowadays. It'd have to be altered to "walk like an ancient Egyptian," and probably no Egyptian costumes in the video.

I had no idea what this was until you've made this thread.

I doubt most people would care. Even Egyptians.

Yeah, probably.

Could you clarify what that means, plastron "riddles in the dark" cafe?

What does it have in its pocketses!?!
...anyway.

Basically any argument that can be made, will be made. But that doesn't mean every argument is a good argument that can be supported effectively.

Yes. There are people out there who believe that this song is offensive for various and sundry reasons.
But apparently not many are vocal enough about it to trigger Google. (https://www.google.com/search?q=egyptians+offended+walk+like+an+egyptian&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS582US582&oq=egyptians+offended+walk+like+an+egyptian&aqs=chrome..69i57.13815j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8)

We live in a sad state where freedom of speech is censored in the name of "offensiveness". Like many other similar topics most people who would be offended would be white males and after white females with few Egyptians actually caring but they'll keep quoting the one Egyptian who hated it.

With that said I do think the random people dancing is a little bit too much but hey it was a product of its time. Song is pretty catchy too, first time I ever hear it. About turning Japanese I remember when the Kristen Dunst cover of the song with the video came out I found it a bit offensive but not because of the lyrics but I felt she was making fun of the culture but then I read an article about how the Japanese had loved working with Dunst with it. In Mexico people love it when they try to represent their culture with sombreros or mustaches, they get it's a nod to the culture and not that every Mexican is like that.

Don't forget it was the song (most notably the music video) that pushed Susanna Hoffs into the forefront of the band, as we can see why... ;)

Not surprising there were rumors about her and Prince dating, lol.

The same way how some see today's hairstyles as attractive. Just give it 20-40 more years, they will be asking the same question you are asking.

Already people are posting about the worst fashion trends of the 2000s decade:

Funny thing is, as popular as the music video "Walk Like An Egyptian" was for making Hoffs into a sex symbol, I'm surprised that not many know that the music video "In Your Room" showed her in a more provocative light. ...I guess since it wasn't as huge as a radio hit like Walk Like An Egyptian.

I was born in the mid 80's, and even I think 30 years is ancient history.

If you went to young teens or 20 year olds today and told them the year 1985 was "recent" they'd laugh in your face. Even the 90's is old now.

Or maybe that means you're kinda really old. 30 years is a very long time. 1985 is a completely different world than 2016.

My grandmother(died at age of 88-89) considered people in their 40s young. She has also referred to women in their early 50s as "young girls" before. So yeah, it'sal lrelative.

Besides, with life expectancy getting higher I'm sure some of us here will hit 100 or get close to it.

I remember hearing on the new over a decade ago that people born in the later years of the 20th century(as in the 90s) could possibly live long enough to see the beginning of the 22nd century.

I will be happy just to live long enough to see Haley's Comet again. Seen it once already in my lifetime. 76 years- now THAT'S a long time. Cubed is still just a baby compared to us 40-ish dinosaurs!! (PS take three shots for this thrad-Cubed bemoaning age and "ancient history" again!! ROFL!!)
