About a month and a half ago I was at a flea market and found this item. The guy there only wanted a dollar for it so I snatched it up but am not exactly sure what it is. At first I thought it was a bow biter for your shoes as I had some Raphael ones as a kid but this seems too big for that. The slots on the back seem too close together for a watch cover. Anyone know what it could be for?

It is in fact a lace-lock.

I believe that they also sold similar items as a belt biter. They were meant to go on a child's belt and hold the excess in place. Give the design of the slots in the back, that could be what this is.

Thanks for the replies guys. My sons don't have shoes with laces (Velcro all the way) or belts to try these out and if they did they probably wouldn't want to wear it. It was a very different time back then with shoe and belt accessories, parachute pants and jean jackets with patches. Oh well it is a cool collector piece.

When I got my Raphael lace lockers I was with my mom at a 2nd hand clothing store and I saw them on a pair of kids dress shoes and I said I wanted them and my mom said the shoes wouldn't fit but I said I didn't want the shoes only the Raphael lace lockers. The lady at the store didn't know what to charge for them so she just said 50 cents. Man I was Stylin'. No one would admit it but all the guys were jealous...probably.

That's indeed a lace-lock, I have a couple of these in a box somewhere. Kinda sad these kind of things don't get made anymore.

After further investigation it looks like Tmntman was right that this is a Belt Biter.

The sneaker snappers are smaller and don't have the tounge sticking out.

Judging by the picture a complete one includes the belt too. The pictures I posted originally didn't represent the size accurately and it is about 2.5 inches high and 2.5" wide which is pretty big to go on a kids shoe.
