View Full Version : Bodycount collected?

I searched and didn't find anything meaningful?

Will this ever be collected? Or does it not fall under the rights or something? I'm not sure.

The issues are hard to come by and the trade is impossible almost.

I'd love it if IDW would re-release it if possible.

It was collected in the past by Heavy Metal. There's a collection of all 4 issues from a decade ago.

I doubt IDW will ever collect it though, too violent and not something they want to put out.

There are two versions of the trade like Cyber said...

I had all 5 issues at one point (#1 from Mirage and #1-4 from Image) but I sold them. Thankfully someone decided to sell their Image trade and I snagged it again.

I talked to a guy who is friends with Kevin Eastman and actually even done some early concept work for the Nick show and he told me that Bodycount is his favorite TMNT story ever but that people apparently really hate it because of how over the top it is. I was thinking thought at one point that you could actually get it in trade because I remember seeing people ripping on it online really badly.

There ya go; waste a President Grant on it, if you so desire. :twink:

It's not that it's over-the-top; it's that it is four issues of Kevin Eastman run amok, and it's not very good. At all.

Whether they want to or not, no way in hell Nickelodeon would allow them to.

Exactly.

Huh... thinking of it now, I wonder if Eastman's 2012 Annual in IDW was sort of a revamped, PG version of this? Raph and Casey caught in a mob crossfire, in over their heads...

The old ones will suffice. You can find them at a worthy price if you keep your eyes out for 'em. I love Bodycount, for the very same reasons most people hate it.

Wasn't there an error with a page being printed twice in the Heavy Metal trade?

Image also put out a trade in the late 1990s.

I had a second set of Bodycount books and donated them to the Mirage site so they could post the issues. Said they'd give me credit on the site for the donation but didn't. Oh well.

I think my local comic shop still has a few Bodycount books in the back issues. I never see the trades go for reasonable prices.

EXACTLY!!!

this story was a HOOT! and Kevin Eastman has a zany sense of humor i absolutely LOVE!

being that the main antagonist's name was Johnny Woo Woo . . . . what's NOT to love!!!

and then there's the Bisley art, the perfect vehicle for the misadventures of Raph & Casey!

i picked up the Trade when it was still around $30, though i now wish i'd have shelled out for the Hardcover!

here's a reasonably priced set of issues #1 through #3.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bodycount-1996-Image-1-2-3-VF-8-0-TMNT-B8-/172411275885?hash=item2824834a6d:g:X5wAAOSw5cNYLMp F

you just have to find a decent copy of issue #4 to complete it.

I think Raph looks a little goofy... everything else about that cover is perfect. Over the top, but this is Bodycount... so yes, perfect. :trazz:

Can't believe we're getting both Bodycount and the Image series re-released and collected by IDW. Two things I never thought would happen due to their violence. I also must thank Nick/Viacom for the change in heart and allowing them to do this.

Now if only they could continue the Tales V.2 trades, they stopped at issue 26 and now they're just re-releasing the old stuff.

I fully expect Vol. 4 trades after Image trades finish, given that won't be till 2020 though hopefully PL will finish the series by then.

If not, then oh well. PL is going to be in his late 60's soon, if he doesn't finish it by the time he's 70 I give up.

that's just Biz's style though. he's awesome at drawing anatomy, but his Turtle heads and faces are always hit or miss.

just look at that Walking Dead inspired variant he did for IDW Tmnt #45.

It's been... 2 or 3 years since the Volume 2 trades finished?

More like a few years after Volume 3 is reprinted by IDW. Maybe. Bobby sounds much more "respectfully hands off" for Volume 4, given that it was Laird's pet project AND that he never finished it (and could conceivably return to do so)...

i really hope that Bodycount as well as the Image run will also show up on Comixology!

RaphaelsIsolation

Comixology?

Digital comics are weak. I don't want to get into a fight about it, but as I've stated in other threads in the past... digital comics really take away so much from the purpose of a comic book.

Each to his own. I'll never ever ever ever ever buy a digital comic. Ever.

Ever... (I know... dramatic right.. I just really hate digital comics)

Anyways...

I'm excited as hell about Bodycount. Not a huge fan of the new cover, but it's cool. I like it I guess.

I'll be getting this HC when it drops for sure. Will be nice to have! Very pleased with the harder edged TMNT stuff getting some love... just took them what???... 5 years?

I don't buy digital.

Some things are just meant to be held in your hands, but like I said... each to his own device.

If it supports the comic directly and you get off on not hold it in your hands. Go for it!

Hopefully Peter Laird will finish Vol. 4 soon. Jim Lawson has said whenever he meets Peter at times he's always asked if he'll come back on Vol. 4. Jim always says yes. A matter of time I hope.

I suppose as long as he sporadically makes con appearances and sketching, he still has some sort of remote interest... But that's a long way from firing up a full book.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is easily the most reprinted trade of anything Mirage, ever. And that seems very strange to me.

Maybe that's the reason Mirage got the reputation of being hyper violent? The most hyper violent version getting so many reprints? Aside from having adaptations that aren't even remotely violent I mean.

Could be. And yet it's so far removed from Mirage. "Bodycount" is like this small oddity that started to be printed at Mirage, got dumped, then later on salvaged and reprinted/continued to be printed at Image for the last 3 issues. Yet... they just keep reprinting it. Over and over again.

It's especially odd when you consider that it's not even that good. Simon Bisley's art is always interesting to look at but that's about as much praise as I can give it. The actual story of Midnight being escorted by Raph and Casey, while avoiding Johnny Woo's assassination attempts, isn't exactly complicated in theory. Which makes it astonishing that I can barely tell what's going on. It's basically just too many characters getting involved in mindless shoot-outs.

I kind of hate to admit it, since I like his ideas and art, but Kevin Eastman is an awful script writer. I haven't read a single solo scripted comic of his I felt was well written. Without someone like Peter Laird or Tom Waltz doing the actual writing for him, he just churns out nonsense scripts.

It's not without it's merits, but it's still more complicated than it needs to be and there's no real weight to the story. They saved a cow statue... Like woohoo...
