i'm pleased to announce that i've just finished a Head study of the early Mirage Ninja Turtles.

i want to use this practice as a warm up to doing full sized finished pieces of these sketches i did from Issue #1 a while back.

there's so many favorite Tmnt images i want to re-create from both the early Mirage, Mid to later Mirage, as well as from the IDW comics.

but i figure i'd just better get these ones developed into something already :D

WOW! Those are awesome! I absolutely love that shading. It gives it a good sense of depth. Thanks for sharing. I'd actually like to see the first issue redrawn in that style or maybe an original story. I love that penciled look.

I'm also an artist myself.

thank you very much! i really appreciate the compliment. ^__^
the shading i actually got from studying sculpture. and if i'm not able to sculpt i try to sketch from my art books of favorite sculptors.

i've wanted to re-draw the entire Mirage issue #1 for a while now.
but what was holding me back was a conflict of trying to draw in the classic Mirage style versus wanting to make things look anatomically accurate.
which can get in the way when drawing imaginative.

these studies were a giant help!!! :)

cool! i'll definitely check out your art! :D

i decided to take the practice from my recent Tmnt head study, and put it into a full sized portrait.

Wow, those shadings are great! I'm looking forward to see more of your art!

And that scene from Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai is great too :)

i actually started on a new Tmnt sketch from Mirage issue 1 that i'll be posting soon.

...that scene from Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai is great too :)

i LOVE Kurosawa's classic Samurai films, as well as a few that Toshiro Mifune did with other directors.
so far i've only tried drawing once from them

it's mildly related, but i did once try sketching from the anime Ninja Scroll :)
