I thought I'd take a stab at a redit of Out of the Shadows, here's my take on the opening

https://vimeo.com/207087214

Details

-Removed original opening with the Turtles attending the basketball game
-Removed most of Casey's cheesy lines to Shredder, Rocksteady and Bebop
-Removed Giant Nun-Chuck Grapplers on the Party Wagon
-Added a brief "Inside Technodrome" Cue from Powder's TMNT (OT) Remastered soundtrack

Still working my way through it, but I think my work is mostly cut out for me with Casey's amount of cheese right now

Here are a couple of suggestions:

Trim the scenes of April and Casey in custody, remove entirely if possible.
Remove the dick and fart jokes.
Remove the explaination of Bebop and Rocksteady's mutation, none is better than what we got.
Remove the "we could be human" plotline, it went nowhere.
Add a text crawl or something explaining some of the unclear things, like who or what Krang is. You could add a new explaination for how the mutation worked.

And if there are deleted scenes that fixes any of this, please reinsert them.

I must admit, it's a good idea to start with the transfer scene.

I had no problem with the dick joke, If you were mutated, You too would check between your pants if your parts are still there.

It should be the world's easiest reedit, to fix the movie. I'll even tell you how to do it: what you do is you import the whole movie into Adobe Premiere/Final Cut Pro/Sony Vegas, make a new sequence, import the "Out of the Shadows" video file, slam it onto the timeline... then highlight the whole thing, delete it, and hit save.

Done.

Huh, interesting. I like your edits, but I don't think it was nesscesscary to delete all that footage of bebop and rocksteady talking and the 'rhino charge' bit. All you needed was just the dick joke removal. And it feels like a few of the cuts remove character introductions and reactions that help the story. Good riddance to Casey's whining, though.

I dig the idea and I think you are cutting some of the right things (for example I dig starting it on The Shredder being taken away) but probably too much was cut. The scenes need room to breathe. Either way, cool idea!

I have always really liked this idea and agree with most of the ideas people have listed (and like what you have done so far). My concern would be that it will make the film really short.

In other threads it has been discussed taking BOTH of these movies, cutting out the crap, and have the possibility of making 1 good/coherent film out of it. There may be some continuity issues due to recasting and character model changes, but I think it could be done really well. Just my two cents, but I like what you're doing! Keep up the good work.

Hey, it's your fan edit, so you be you, but I personally liked the "we are not food" bit.

(To be fair, I didn't have that big a problem with the movie period, so I'd take the theatrical cut over a fan edit any day, but you be you.)

Thanks again for your comments guys.

These are not part of the final product, they're just proof-of-concept for now, I see people's point about minimising Rocksteady and Bebop's banter and maybe leaving it back in, and I'll certaingly try that.

The concerns about making the film too short are valid too, I'm looking through deleted scenes at the moment to sort of make up for anything I minimilise to see if that helps.

I do have the 2014 movie also, so I could try a hybrid edit next time and see how I fare. I have seen people edit the original 90s TMNT movie and Secret of the Ooze together with no concern given to cases of recasting.

I did'nt have a problem with the movie much either, this is just for fun and to see if anything is better with things scaled back.

Ilike the extended ending better. Also, PLEASE try to leave as many B&R scenes in as possible. All that should have to are is the 'big bang' fart joke, and the 'my man' joke.

And I agree with everybody else here; how much can Casey whining can be cut down without pulling away scenes from the other characters?

Presently I'm starting to see if I scale back on the "ooze can make us human" subplot, now the Turtles simply argue over opposing strategies. I'm also going to move up Don and Leo at the museum to just before we catch up on what Vernon's up to.

In this clip, I omit Mikey's corny introductions to Casey, Casey being tricked into attacking Splinter, Bebop and Rocksteady's excessive overeating, and omitting the "big bang" joke

Did you work on removing the hideous nostrils/noses from the Turtles faces? Goddamn, the Turtles designs are so off-putting. Especially with those disgusting horrible noses.

We really need some good CG effect artist to remove the noses on every scene the Turtles are in. I know that would be a lot of work due to the sheer mass of scenes they're in, but those awful noses need to be chopped off. Give them nose jobs.

I'd love to find time to do that...or rather find time to learn that first, it's a bit out of my range of expertease for the moment.

Here's an update....I've trimmed the raid on the police station to remove Vincent recognizing Jones and any references to Raph wanting the mutagen to turn human. As promised, I also bumped up Leo and Don at the museum to just after Vernon is recruited

I had no problem with the dick joke, If you were mutated, You too would check between your pants if your parts are still there.Shame one couldn't do it up in such a way that when hears the cartoonish 'Pop!' that Bebop could gasp in horror, 'Oh no, I think it's gone!'

PERFECT! It makes it look like Casey actually might've killed the two, leaving it open to viewer interpretation (april's report says they were in custody, but didn't say alive). That would have been better I think. How would the police (or a jail) even be able to contain those two?

I'm definitley going to release it at some point, I just have to be sure I've combed everything over first. I'm curious about the running time myself, as I haven't exactly been making these clips in one continuous timeline in the software I'm using.

Awesome, thanks for letting me know. I wonder if it would be possible to cut the entire movie to the length of 1 hour and have it play out like a multi-parter episode from the FW cartoon. For added effect, maybe you could insert some of the tracks from the show into the scenes with low/no music.

You either hate the movie or you like it for what it is, this isn't a situation like The Next Mutation where editing could actually make the movie better IMHO.

How can you make a monstrosity like Next Mutation better? I like the sarcasm and puns and some jokes you get when yo are older like the first three films and the 1987 cartoon, but Next Mutation is plain out camp and I don't mean the enjoyable Adam West variety. You also cant cut out Venus and there is not enough footage of Shredder to keep him in it. Not to mean the corny voice over for his character.

Somewhat off topic, one thing I would like reedited,is Batman Forever. Cut out some of the neon, add more of the psychological study where Val Kilmer and Chase are talking and he says 'I killed them'. Also, digitally makeover Jim Caray in the final act. Then you got yourself a pretty good film.

It's been done before in short clips but I don't have them. Just editing out the goofy sound effects already tonally changes scenes completely and makes it better, anyone have the youtube clips of that? There was also a fan project (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=56343) going on about it but I think it's not going places quickly.

I hope I did not come off as rude in my previous post. It is easy to do on the Internet. I just have a highly negative view of the show. It has to be a monument mal task as some of it has to remain for it be anything cohesive.

I like the movie for what it is, but that shouldn't deter anyone from wanting to delve into a little creative experimentation and seeing what the film is like by applying any lingering critiques a fan may have to the finished product. Even the good Star Wars movies have been re-edited by fans like Adywan's "Revisited" (which is even more of a Special Edition than the official Special Edition was)

Batman Forever has a few fanedits like the "Red Book Edition" and the "Virtual Workprint" (that one is fairly easy to find with a google search), they tend to include most of the deleted scenes (though not without much of a polish) and restore the darker, psychological elements you mention. I don't think there's been a real effort to really give it a good rendering/digital makeover though, maybe one day

I've been busy with other editing projects, but I should be resuming work on this within the week.

In the meantime, I've learned someone else, a reddit user called WhoJANKINS, has been editing the film and talks about what he's done here:

I was limited to the source material, so I couldn’t remove everything I wanted, or make DRASTIC changes. For instance, Since the I don’t have the soundtrack and voices in their own separate files from the actual footage, I was forced to leave some scenes in the film, that I would have otherwise removed. Also, some scenes (like Mikey in the Halloween Parade) had to be kept due to continuity issues.

I removed about 23 minutes of footage. Including cheesy lines, unfunny jokes, unnecessary basketball player cameos, mutant dick jokes, sexy Megan Fox scenes, and more.. And I only added about 3 minutes of extra footage not scene in the original film (Judith Hoag Cameo).

Here are a couple of the major changes..

Casey Jones - Taking out his introduction/storyline in the first act gives him a more mysterious entrance when he rescues April. I wish I could have taken him out of the chase scene completely but was impossible due to limitations with the sound. But removing his early scenes, actually move the movie along better, as well as clear up some annoying plot holes, like WHY would a bartender be more scared of Casey Jones than the Shredder!? But now, with removing a couple scenes, the bartender never had a GPS on the phones.

Mutagen DNA story line - By removing a few lines, the mutagen no longer works by activating a dormant gene from their animal ancestry. Leaving the mutagen a mystery. Or you can assume it works like it has in past iterations.

There are also dozens of little cuts and re-edits that I feel make the movie just a little bit more watchable. Most of the changes were made for the first two acts.. The third act is a lot of just action, and I thought that is what this movie did well at.
