What's the consensus? Realistically they probably wouldn't (reptiles don't sweat), but when you factor in the ooze and any sort of hyper-evolution/what-have-you... who knows.

I guess the best question is, in your head, do the Turtles sweat?

I remember seeing Leonardo sweating in one scene in the 2014 movie.

I'm gonna go with no because from a quick google search it appears turtles in general, I don't know which ones, but in general turtles do not have sweat glands. (http://www.kgbanswers.com/do-turtles-sweat/7503291 ) Maybe they got them when they mutated, but I don't think its specifically said they mutated into human-turtle combos so I'm going with no. Also, it looks like yet another problem with the platinum dunes movies have been found.

Jesus, the last thing we need to see here in the comic section are the hideous Turtle nostrils and faces. I'm trying to block these designs out from memory.

A more respectable and less horrifying example than those "films" is that FW Leo sweats during the episode "Snakes alive" when he is confronted by his fear. Depends on the version though.

Best... not to look to that movie for much of anything.

Nah, but they probably do if the writer wants them to.

I like the visual aesthetic of them sweating in a tough fight, but that's the only reason I'd want them to. More visual cues.

This. So I can't really call it.

At one hand turtles don't sweat, but on the other hand, the Ninja Turtles gotta be something else then cold blooded or ectotherms since we never see them bask or require sunlight in the same manner as regular turtles. The Mutatin might have made them available to generate enough body heat on their own to manage a large bipedal body or some other pseudo-science/sci-fi babble explanation.

So they might sweat, maybe the mutation granted them sweat glands to cope with their new body heat. Maybe they only sweat under extreme ciscumstances since they never get warm enough to sweat otherwise.

Even basking turtles that don't get UV light don't drop dead or die. They just don't flourish.

The only thing that isn't fan art (or pictures of shirts) that come up from googling "sweat" and "TMNT", is this meme image. So I guess not?

I mean, sure they won't drop dead as soon as they don't get the right radiation. but with prolonged lack of UV exospore can lead to several health issues, which can lead to death.

But as long as they have sufficient D3 in their diet (and don't OD on it), they don't need UV light to prevent MBD or eventually die, it'll probably still affect their social and feeding behavior, and if they are surviving or thriving.

But for Ninja Turtles, the mutation either upgraded their D3 needs, or Splinter read some Pet Turtle books and gives them supplements in their food  or maybe they do need soft shells to bend their backs, or they've been sick until they fled to the Farmhouse.

Or UV tanning beds.

I remember certain moments Donatello in the original cartoon had sweat running down his forehead while trying to figure out how to solve a major problem.

Sophia is correct:tgrin:...But I think it is worth noting that this situation as well as the one instigated by fear are examples in which we see the symbol language of visual media (comics)...Not really cases in which the creatures are sweating biologically..

The Platinum Dunes incarnations with their human faces and lips probably have them hanging under their loincloths. In fact there was a joke in one of the movie where Michelangelo said something like, "I feel my shell tightening" over seeing Megan Fox.

Um Cubed- that would mean it's INSIDE the shell, just like in a normal turtle. The only thing that they might be hiding under those clothes would most likely be their tails! Though why tails would be taboo to see is beyond me. Pretty sure we've covered all this before anyway. As for sweating my vote is that they are still cold-blooded like other turtles and can't sweat. Sea turtles are almist as large and often migrate to cold climates so it's quite possible. I played aroynd with the idea in a fic where Donatello was studying sea turtles to determine any similarities to themselves. He concluded that it was the body size and activity level that generated enough body heat to keep them from having to hibernate. (And probably the high-carb diet too....)
