The new mini-series "TMNT: Dimension X" will be released in August. With "FCBD: Prelude To Dimension X" (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=57303) in May.

First look on Nick Pitarra's covers:

Oh, now that's just gorgeous! You, sir, are an underrated gem in this forum!

Could that cyclops creature be IDW Bellybomb? :o

Utrommaniac
04-18-2017, 06:51 AM
Definitely Bellybomb. It's an...interesting take. I don't think we've seen his Utroms out of armor before, so that's nice.

That Utrom-ish fish looks like it's going to be interesting, but that...living mustache looks...

Ace Duck laid out on the mat?

...It does appear to be that way.

Also, any clue as to who the guy in the ring trashing everyone is? Maybe that's Hakk-R?

I keep imagining that tree dude next to him sounding like some kind of Justin Roiland Character. Like...if Mr. Meeseeks was cosplaying as Groot.

... So many questions here:

Are the Utroms actually participants?
What with the Kuriboh thing?
If that's Ace Duck, why does he look like a mannequin?
Is that a weirdly designed Bellybomb or just a new character?
Is the anglerfish familiar to anyone?
Is that a small car or a big foot being cut off by the lampshade?
Who's the tentacle monster?

It's a separate 5-issue mini, just like the Bebop/Rocksteady one from last year.

You can see Stump easily in the middle of the ring, which one is Sling? The tree thing with the vines I guess?

I would expect Sling to be the same species as Stump, maybe the vine creature is IDW Snakeweed or something? If that's not Hakk-r, that is... But I don't think it would fit a hired assassin's M.O. to publicly enter a martial arts competition.

It's separate from Universe.

It is also setting a new precedent for IDW TMNT. Sales must be good to justify the release of a weekly book, even if just for one month.

Technically we already had a weekly mini last year, but that was before Universe. Having three books in the same month is definitely unprecedented. This is quite likely the best comic out there right now, every bit of success and sales it can garner is more than deserved.

And hopefully one day we'll have three ongoing books... A man can dream!

I just realized...there are quite a few Utroms hanging around for this to be a Dimension X arch, if they've all been wiped out there. Unless they did realize my point that it is just a little silly for the species with a galaxy-wide empire to be completely annihilated on their homeworld. Of course there would be off-world survivors than just the ones on Burnow Island.

The tentacle thing could very well be some edition of Snakeweed too. Looks a lot better than the original too :P . Especially considering that I'm trying to resist putting my edition of Snakeweed into Audrey II territory.

As for the angler fish, I'm preferring to think for now that it's another resident of Utrominon. One that the Utroms treated as a sport fish.

And what is Mr. Meeseeks-Groot holding anyway??? Looks like an Utrom mixed with a manta ray.

As is always with the covers, there's usually a variety of artists doing the covers. He did the ones for Bebop and Rocksteady Destroy Everything, and one of the alternate covers for Utrom Empire. Sequential covers seem to be his thing.

I did notice that this Bellybomb resembles an akephaloi/Blemmyes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headless_men) more than any other version.

Not to mention, I noticed one of the Utroms had a sign with Nick Don on it. It makes me like to think the Nick cartoon (and probably the other ones as well) exist within the IDW-verse as an Utrom made fictionalised TV-show. It would explain the plotholes in the Nick show, literally made by aliens!

Utrommaniac

I think that's supposed to be Donatello; his mask is just a little too much on the blue side of purple.

It makes the most sense because she is set to debut during the Trial of Krang/TMNT: Dimension x storyline. We have a lot of characters in this event as it is so Maligna has likely more of a crime syndicate this time around.

I always forget which is which out of the two of them (and only one can fire that projectile thingy, as I recall), but basing Scul and Bean's new designs on a mantis shrimp and a stag beetle wouldn't be the worst idea ever, IMHO.

Solid design choices. I love seeing mantis shrimp and other weird sea floor critters like that at aquariums.

I'm not familiar with Maligna yet, and I'm going to wait until her debut in IDW to go back and get familiar with her prior incarnations so that I can evaluate IDW's version on its own merit

Archie Leatherhead (like what I found out most things in Archie TMNT are) isn't exactly the most sensical when it came to development. I guess they really had to make that dead in the water spin-off happen regardless of how much sense it made, either in-universe or the real world.

God, the bottom part of Leo's shell looks so weird from that angle. It looks like his legs come out straight from the plastron, how does he have any articulation at the hips? Otherwise it's all lovely and detailed, it's just that part really sticks out.

I had to briefly look up what issue was in my head. It was #13 I think. Leatherhead referenced how he was 'born to fight.' That's why I made the comment in my previous post. It was the issue that went into more of Leatherhead's origin story surrounding why MarryBones/Cherubae turned him in the first place.

As a fellow Archie hater (I don't like writing that I am that, it's too strong of a word for what I feel about it. "Archie Disappointee"?) I have to agree. Archie might just have been a superficially superior version of the Fred Wolf cartoon, but it's pretty fun to see the attention in this homage.

The Stump Asteroid stuff was never the highlight of Archie (it was only focused on in 2 issues overall, issue 7 and then 36 or so), but it's fun for a one-off setting.

The best Archie storylines focused on Malinga, Armaggon and the Future Turtles, Null and the Four Horseman storyline, and Verminator X as well as the Midnight Sun arc with the Warrior Dragon.

Leatherhead did not come back with the Turtles. It was when Leatherhead was recruited to help the TMNT stop Shredder and Krang once and for all and Malinga stood in the way. So Trapp came as well but Wingnut and Screwloose were not with Stump Asteroid which was screwy with continuity.Leatherhead returned to Earth after that.

Possible, possible. But ideally she should come to the realization that what she really needs is to better train and motivate the ones she already has. Koya, Bludgeon and Ocho could make for an even more formidable fighting force than the Turtles if they were as coordinated. Instead, replacing Ocho with Bebop & Rocksteady (who are nigh-unstoppable), all four of them were soundly defeated and humiliated during the Gauntlet.

Better to fight smarter than to fight harder, or with more fodder on your side.

Then again, if she were capable of such a level of insight, she would've realized way back when that Saki and Kitsune were almost the downfall of the Foot in Feudal Japan, not its high point, and would've been far more reluctant to bring them both back to life. So who knows how that girl thinks, really.

Utrommaniac
05-24-2017, 09:28 AM
Yeah, I think that makes more sense for Karai's Path.

As for the other one...methinks they might be going for something like the Space Turtle storyline from the OT. With their peaceful civilization and...gold photosynthesis...(what even was that???). The mutants could very well be the plant things on the cover.
And since this IS a "peaceful planet" that would probably not have known better to potentially support said mutant plants...

dGlagb9hwM0

(Incidentally, in the original Roger Corman film in all its weirdness, "Audrey Junior" was in fact a mutant hybrid instead of an alien like Audrey II was. Seymour had grown it from a bulb found by a Japanese gardener "in plantation next to a cranberry farm." A joke which only could have worked in 1960, since cranberry crops were tainted the herbicide aminotriazole in 1959, causing cranberry sales to tank. Not sure how that would have caused a bulbing plant to grow into a talking, thinking, hypnotizing man-eating mutant, but hey it's Roger Corman.)

It makes perfect sense in my head that mutant plants would be destabilizing to the environment of that world.

At this point there is only one scripter I cannot understand how got tied into doing an issue, but there is one who is a mainstream writer who has worked for IDW more than not I would love to see, Chuck Dixon.
