I wish I could be making this up, but unfortunately I am not so here we go:

Sony Pictures has plans to adapt the popular children’s book The Day the Crayons Quit for the big screen. Deadline has the news, reporting that the bestseller, written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers, is being planned as a live-action / animation hybrid. 21 Laps is developing the property with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen producing and Daywalt and Jeffers themselves serving as executive producers.

Published in 2013 by Philomel Books, The Day the Crayons Quit was named Amazon’s 2013 Best Picture Book of the Year and has, to date, sold more than 300 million copies. It is officially described as follows:

Poor Duncan just wants to color. But when he opens his box of crayons, he finds only letters, all saying the same thing: His crayons have had enough! They quit! Beige Crayon is tired of playing second fiddle to Brown Crayon. Black wants to be used for more than just outlining. Blue needs a break from coloring all those bodies of water. And Orange and Yellow are no longer speaking—each believes he is the true color of the sun.

What can Duncan possibly do to appease all of the crayons and get them back to doing what they do best?

A companion book, The Day the Crayons Came Home followed in 2015.

This sounds like it could be great if Pixar or Dreamworks were doing it...

I'm confused...why are people upset that someone's greenlit an animated adaptation of a popular children's book?

Yeah, I don't get it, either.

My niece and all her little classmates LOVE when my mom reads this book to them. The day the crayons came home too. The specifically request that when she comes to read to them at school.

I don't understand the hate. Its a little kid movie from a cute little kid book.

Like Ferdinand. I actually really want to see that one in December. I loved that book as a kid.

Wonder if this'll have the same reaction as the Emoji Movie.

Oh god, why does Sony just keep on trying. Ferdinand...that's okay. But after the Emoji movie, their efforts feel like this for their movie branch

I'd have more faith if it were a different studio, but it's a solid adaptation.

Heck, Sony is doing "The Dark Tower"... so apparently they can make SOME intelligent business decisions.

Why do any of you care this much about a literal children's movie. It's not going to ruin the integrity of the story or any BS like that.

It's not even a bad idea. I liked that book when I was younger.

I need to find a copy for my kids...

Rather than worry about whether or not this will be good, folks should be asking the real questions...

Is The Deadman a viral marketer? He only posts in the GD & it's always with a new thread that promotes a link to a media site.

Never once seen a TMNT opinion of his, just this sorta thing.

Hmm.

Eh, my interest in TMNT (or at least, the current incarnations of them) abated awhile ago. I just come here to talk about dumb movie stuff with the gang here. Maybe Deadman's like me in that respect.

Atleast he HAS opinions, unlike the confirmed viral marketer we have.

People like to criticize every movie or tv show that comes along for being stupid or pointless but let's leave that for the things that truly deserve it.

I just discovered The Day My Butt Went Psycho yesterday. It should void everyone's complaints about everything. It's a book and a cartoon. Look it up.

Isn't that a porno?

Isn't that a porno? No. I don't know. I'm being totally serious though. I have never seen anything so stupid.

The author only writes toilet humor from what I see. Pure toilet humor. Not the occasional fart joke or randomness that we've all criticized.

It's shameful that it could even be a book, but a cartoon. Granted it never reached mainstream status but it really is sad that something like this was able to achieve any amount of success or recognition.

Stuff like this is something to be upset about. Not the things people love to complain over. This. It's 0% effort garbage. Literally and figuratively.

I bet it's hilarious. Not even joking.
