Cool, I didn't know that the Shredder's voice was done by James Avery, here I didn't get the cartoon with the original voices. I liked Avery in Fresh Prince of Bel Air, great actor :)

What's just as funny/interesting is that Phylicia Rashad(cosby mom) guest starred in an episode. She played Dr. Jane Goodfellow's voice in the episode What's Michaelangelo Good For.

Old cartoon Shredder. He had such an awesome voice. New Cartoon Shredder is cool, but it's kind of weird how it has some sort of echo or distortion when he wears his body suit. I can't believe that 4 people did the voice of Shredder on the old cartoon though. Still, no voice can compare with James Avery's. I often wonder who the 1989 alternate voice of Shredder is, I don't think it's in the voice actor list.
Edit: nm it is, but it's labeled as the 1991 alternative.

I remember when I first discovered who voiced Shredder from the old toon. I was sat watching Fresh Prince and then Uncle Phil said 'knuckleheads' and I just stopped :| and it all clicked

Just because the dialogue (which I assume you mean, and in response to your NM voice comment) was funny doesn't mean it was good voice acting.

Heh, I didn't know that til semi-recently either! When ya listen to somma the clips on this site of The Shredder you can totally tell.

There was one voice actor I didn't like, and that was the one that was in "Shredderville". It was too... pushed. It always sounded like he had a hard time breathing.

The new toon voice as far as I remember was pretty cool too. A bit of a toss up, but since I am a loyal old toon fan, I voted old. :shredder: :D

For me, it's tough. I like James Avery's Shredder, and the New Toon Shredder...

I do recall Jim Cummings took over for Shredder for a bit, but in an interview he said he didn't like it too much. I remember him saying something like "I wanted to ask, can we do this on a Friday, so my voice can heal over the weekend?)

The OS (original series) Shredder voice was by far best IMO. Plus of all the VA's that did Shredder's voice on the OS, he made the funniest moans and screams. Yeah I knew James Avery, Uncle Phil on Fresh Prince was Shredder's VA by just listening to him. He sure doesn't look like a Shredder, and when I listen to Shredder, he sure doesn't sound black. But a good VA can disguise their voice well IMO.[/quote]
