Great Splinter story. It showed us abilities I don't think we've ever seen before. Good characterization too.
I loved the Turtles stuff as well. Mikey's pajamas were cute, and his stomach giving him away was funny. Leo lecturing Don and Raph, was good, as was Raph's comeback (yes, mommy  )
Overall, a 8/10. The story was a little confusing (with the time flashes and the art didn't help to communicate what was going on when Splinter and the mystery man were in spirit form) Other then those too things, a great issue.
Next issues cover looks great. And it has the Return of Shredder. I can't wait!

I really enjoyed the story too. It took some flipping back and forth to figure out the time thing, but I caught on. I'm curious as to when they will continue that story line. Why do these weird mystics need to fight Splinter for their right of passage?

What? It really did come out today? My comic shop only had Vol. 4 #15, they said Tales #2 didn't come in yet.
Oh well, I'm sure he'll get them soon enough, he's checking with Diamond about this issue. There are 4 other people besides me at the shop that get it every month, so I'm sure my local shop will get this, probably next week.

Did anyone catch the "Kappa Cola" machine in Mike's room? Nice touch :)

Or the Tool poster right next to it?
This was an awesome issue. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it. It's a shame that they didn't hand the Dreamwave series to Murphy. It would have been very dark and an interesting series in its own right. It would have been far better than the episode rehash and lame storylines that we got.
It was really great to finally get to see the Foot Mystics who were referenced in Vol. 1 #21. I hope we get to see the 3 head mystics again. Splinter kicks ass!

Pretty good issue....I liked how it was pretty dark. Not as good as issue 1, but still a great read.

Heh. I knew Mike had good taste. :P

Ummm.... technically, no. It doesn't.
Oni is the Japanese word for 'demon'. Kame is the Japanese word for 'turtle'.
Kappa is a specific kind of demon in Japanes mythology, a water sprite only vaguely similar to real-life turtles. They were said to be quite small in stature, and their skulls emptied out into bowls which supposedly contained the spirits of their victims.

It was good to get a tale featuring Splinter primarily. I also have to wonder: is this just after Tales Volume 2 Ish 1? Seems like it.

My comic shop finally got this today. No idea why they were late with this one, but since they got #1 in early, I guess it balances out.
I haven't read it yet, but I did read the introduction. Really interesting, it makes me wonder just how different the Dreamwave series would've been if Murphy would've been writing it.

Weird. My shop didn't get it in until today.
It was pretty good, the art was a little lackluster, though. It was nice to see Splinter kick some ass, though his moustache and beard-thing kinda looked stupid.
All in all it was alright.
I'm more looking forward to #3 and seeing Shredder.

The little beard thing he usually has I like, but the whole moustache thing just looked ugly and not like him. I can't say I liked much of the art in that issue at all. Looked very amateurish.
It was a good story, though.
After only a few issues I've decided not to read any more of Laird's commentaries. Big whiner.

yea most of the fans are to....fun stuff actully I don't really mind him talking about his personal life or opinions...because it doesnt bother my thoughts on things one bit...and btw the art from this issue is the same guy that draw the normal series jim lawson incase you not sure...because many people dislike his art.

Well, he can draw circles around *me*, so the art isn't horrible or anything. It just looks more like "fanart" than anything professional. Like I said, "amateurish".
And as far as Laird'd whinig goes, all I have to do to keep it from bugging me is not read it. Simple solution.

I thought the art was okay. Not as good as I like it. I'm typically the last one to overly complain about the art, but I found it in this issue to be a tad distracting at times.
I thought the story was good though.
Of course, the bigget news - Return of the Shredder!

I got this issue acouple weeks ago (the same night I bought the TMNT Season 1 DVD) and I was so excited to read it! I loved how they did this story, and I thought the bit with Splinter's bat wings was a very funny reference to the Image series.

I thought it was very good, the battle between Splinter and the Foot mystic was pretty cool.

Maybe the elites at the end who were talking about how they would need to fight Splinter themselves eventually killed Splinter in a Mystic battle :-?

That is a good theory, but wouldn't that mean he'd have died floating in mid air while meditating like he was doing instead of fixing himself a cup of tea?

Okay, I just got this issue. Finally.
I have to say, that while it was quite entertaining, it was painfully obvious this was originally intended to be a comic adaptation of the new toon --- and not a Mirage story.
Everything from the turtles' interaction with one another, to the portrayal of the Foot, to the "mysticism", to Splinter's pseudo-philosophy (which was rather laughable if you compare it to the philosophy Eastman and Laird always had him spout) made it clear this was an originally toon story only changed to a Mirage one at the last minute (as the writer pretty much admits at the beginning).
Still, it was a damn fine read. And quite enjoyable. Not quite as good as issue 1, though, in my opinion.
Laterz.
