View Full Version : The end of "Friends"

Thursday evening the very last episode of "Friends" will air. What do you think? Will it be any good? Friends was my favourite sitcom for a very long time but they should have ended it after season 8. Season 9 and 10 were extremely lame, the plots were stupid, the jokes repetitive and some characters horrible (especially Courtney Cox as Monica was darn annoying). I fear that they'll also screw the "Joey"-spinoff but I'll wait until I've seen it before I judge it.
Another thing I hated about those seasons were the plot holes. Where was Ben? Where was Phoebe's mom and dad? It was like they've never existed in the show.
The last episode wasn't very promising, either. It was always clear that Rachel and Ross will be back together at the end of the series but everything just feels so rushed. We'll just have to wait and see. All in all friends was a great show but I'm glad that it'll be finished tomorrow.
BTW to all sitcom-bashers and "Friends"-haters: OUT OF THIS THREAD!!!!

I think the show should have ended a few years ago. Around the time Monica and Chandler got married. I really haven't found it funny since then. I haven't watched it in about a year or two now, but I might watch the final episode just to check it out.

The season after Monica and Chandler got married was very good, it had some good story arcs (Joey falling in love with Rachel, Rqachel getting her baby).

Yeah some of it I thought was Ok, but Alot of it just struck me as "blah".
Like Rachel thinking Joey was proposing, I thought that was lame.

The Video tape of Rachel and Ross was pretty funny though. Like when they tried watching it and got grossed out

05-05-2004, 09:34 AM
The show was very dragged out, and they were just running out of material. Just as GK said, it should've been over years ago. It wasn't all that bad in the beginning, but it became repetitive.

Joey, Ross, Rachel and Chandler SAVED the show from going under, the final season has been hilarious.

Monica and Phoebe totally suck, and have done so since Season Five

Zarius said pretty much how I've looked at it, but then I've never really liked Phoebe, could be down to the bad acting. I quite like it still. Joey's usually quite funny because it's all in the delivery:

'Something that's in your fridge, it's white'
'Paper? Snow?...A GHOST!'

and later

'Something you put in a sandwich, it's white'
'Paper? Snow?...A GHOST!'

Well, to be honest, I've just been kind of hitting and missing these last few seasons. Plus... man, I was all about Ross and Rachel getting together when the series was new... But they dragged it out so much I really don't WANT them to get together. I wasn't real thrilled with the whole "together, then not together, then together" thing. You can only drag that so far...

But I'll definitly be watching on Thursday. At least taping, if I'm not home. :)

hmmm, I dunno, i never really liked friends. I never really thought they were that funny. OK, they had one or two good jokes, but all in all... Nah, not my kinda thing

I think the best joke, or thing was when Joey and Chandler lost Ben. And had to flip a coin to see which baby to pick.

Chandler: Heads or tails? But for what?
Joey:...uhm....heads for ducks because ducks have heads.
Chandler:....What kind of screwed up birthday parties did you used to have?

I'm a huge fan of friends so of course I'll see it. Freinds is probably my all time favroite TV show, lol. I really liked this past season, far better than the previous couple. But as other people have said, Joey definately saved this season. The episode when he was on that pyramid gameshow is one of my favorite epiosdes period. So f**king funny.

Yep, I loved that

'Man they make those questions hard. I mean who keeps a ghost in the fridge?'

(not sure if that's the exact quote)

I'd hate to be a kill joy, a buzz kill or a kill Bill... but I never really got into the show. I felt Seinfeld was the more superior of the two shows. And in a way, the show ended for me when they got rid of the monkey.

HE WAS THE BEST PART!!!!

I watch almost no American TV, except for Saturday morning, and the main reason is Friends. No offence, but I'm glad it's leaving.

You watch no American TV because of Friends? :-?

ThirdMarioBro

No, I watch almost no American TV, because there are so many shows that emulate Friends. Reality TV, cheap Sitcoms, ect. Friends is what set me on the course of not liking American TV, but it's not the only reason, just the first.

I actually feel sort of the same way... too many copy cat shows on TV.... I really don't watch much TV, save cartoons, the occassional Seinfeld rerun, and King of Queens... and anything with Muppets in it.... errrr... unfortunately it's just Sesame Street and Talk show apperances right now... darnit. Need my muppet fix.....

Most of the time I'm watching tapes or DVD's.....

ThirdMarioBro

Blame Disney for the Muppet drout. I only watch TMNT, and stuff on Saturday morning, then you realise that 90% of Saturday morning is horrible dubs of wonderful Japanese shows. That's why I just quit. Minus TMNT (american animation's saving grace), I just watch Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (aka best. show. EVER) and countless Animes. Japan rocks, and so does their TV.

Yeah, Japan's not that great. It's kinda cool and all, but it's not ten thousand times better than america as alot of people believe. Women are still treated as objects there. yeah, that's cool.

Japan isn't great at all. It's just another country that has different things.

ThirdMarioBro
05-05-2004, 07:47 PM
Japan is no America (even if I am pissed at them right now, and let people know far too often), I just like the things they create. That's all really.

Man... I'm gettin' sooooo tired of hearing how godly Japan is.

No country is godly. Japan is f***ed up, America is f***ed up, everyone is f***ed up.

Anime are great. Manga are great. They have good movies. They have ramen. That's it. A country in which women think it's normal that perverts grab their asses in the subway and which kills so much dolphins (THEY JUST CAN'T KILL DOLPHINS, DAMMIT!! ) that some bays are coloured completely red (I'm not kidding, there are pictures of that out there) doesn't get too much respect from me. :|

ThirdMarioBro
05-05-2004, 11:26 PM
And then we have america, a country where gay men grab guy's asses in Wal-Mart, people kill each other daily, TV promotes men who sing about rape, and pollution/hunting/poching/government carelessness/oil spill, are killing tons of species every day.

Like I said, all countries suck. There is no perfect government, no perfect society, no perfect culture. I like the things that Japan creates, but that dosen't mean I support the killing of Dolphins. Dolphins are smarter than us, we just won't admit it. If they had hands, they'd have killed us long ago. Just cuz I like TMNT dosen't mean I support american hunters illegilly killing black bears just because it ate their lunch. Every country sucks, peroid. I like a country for it's creations, not it's destructiveness, cuz everyone is a murderer in that department.

Back on topic, who watched the finale? I thought it was alright, not near as good as the show used to be but alright. I liked the fact, that they had a final Joey-Chandler scene ("Awkward hug or lame cool-guy hand shake?" ) and David Schwimmer did a good job, too. Even Courtney Cox (obviously pregnant) wasn't as annoying as usual. All in all a mediocre ending for a formerly genius show but at least it was better than most of the rest of the previous two seasons.
The Jay Leno special was kinda idiotic, I can't understand why they showed all those bloopers, I mean, we have seen ALL of them in the bloopers special.
Oh, the Joey trailer... I'm not sure about it. I hope the show will be good, Matt Leblanc is a cool guy and it would make me kinda sad if the show was a flop.

Technically, it's Jim Henson Company's fault, before Disney's (because they had NO money to do anything, which is why they sold)... Sure, we had that 2002 Christmas movie special... thing... but that's about it. Disney is planning to make at least a few movie specials and stuff... though I won't hold my breath for them to be that good (THey are planning a retelling of Wizard of Oz) they have stuff planned.... just not really going that far with it yet.

Yeah... the Friends thing was over-hyped, and there will be a DVD for those who care. Fraisier gone unnoticed (until the last 2 weeks) and other shows are disappearing without notice.

Why does everyone compare Friends to Seinfeld, then say Seinfeld's better? :o God, that annoys me to no end!

Barkworm

They compare them only because they are the two most successful sitcoms ever. That's the only reason.

To be quite honest... I wasn't sure if I wanted Rachel to get off the plane. I mean, I was all about Ross and Rachel getting together before. But you can only pull the 'I love you, now I don't, but I do... but we can't" stuff for so long... by the end I actually wanted her with Joey! *ducks any flying objects*

But, in the end, I suppose it's the only way the show could have ended. Though... I thought they spent too much of the hour on Ross and Rachel. But, I was still happy when they got toether at the end. :)

Yeah but he has a good point

You can't turn on the TV in the UK without getting a show on somewhere about: gardening, home improvement, dating, nazis (if it's channel 5) or dating nazis (if you're lucky)

And if it's not one of those it's some boring as hell reality tv show

I don't see what people hated about Friends, it was entertaining and light hearted, it's what you'd want from that sort of show. And if you didn't watch it why did you hate it anyway?

Exactly what I was thinking. Sure, there have been successful Spin offs of canned shows, like Mork and Mindy, Fraisier, the Jeffersons... but then again, there are shows like "After M*A*S*H*" which never hold a candle to the original, and then crash and burn on TV....

>>...You serious?

I will agree 10000000% with that statement. In fact, other than the Simpsons and Malcom, the only shows on Fox are reality shows... there are a few more... but I forgot about them... don't see half the advertisements for those shows as the half the crappy reality sausage factory squeezed out...

Plus then we have all the "Judge Fill in the Blank" shows, and 30 different (loosely speaking) forensick (sp?) investigator shows.... and ABC's line up.... can't even think of a hit there....

I liked the show, but the whole Ross and Rachael thing got old fast for me. Chandler and Monica are great together.

But my favorite episodes were... the one where Joey and Chandler won the girls' apartment.

where Ross and Chandler had bullies picking on them in Central Perks

And when everyone, 'cept Ross, found out about Chandler and Monica

I always liked the series, but I have to admit that the whole love story between Ross and Rachel got out of hand over the last few years.

I think the best joke, or thing was when Joey and Chandler lost Ben. And had to flip a coin to see which baby to pick.

I love that scene too, but you miss-quoted their lines. It went like this-

CHANDLER: "Assign something!"
JOEY: "Okay, uhh... ducks is heads because ducks have heads!"
CHANDLER: "What kind of scary-ass clowns came to your birthday party?!"
