Nickelodeon TMNT UK Magazine/Comic
Couldn't see an existing thread about this and decided this was the best place to start one.
Panini (the same people who recently did the TMNT trading card game) have just released a new Turtles magazine in the UK. Its pretty much like an up to date version of the US Turtles magazine back in the early 90s. Articles, quizzes, children's puzzles, plus around 12 new pages of comic strip (divided over 2 short stories). I think these comic storeis are all-new, drawn by UK artists much like the original 90s UK Hero Turtles comic. Like all UK kids comics, it comes loaded with "free" gifts - in this case a pack of the trading cards, a ltd edition foil trading card plus a TMNT branded water pistol (kids comics over here seem to sell purely on how much junk is taped to the front cover!) If only the Uk Transformers comic put this much effort into the art. Will deff pick this up. Shame they haven't included reprints of the US comics.

The US comics are far too "adult" for the market this is aimed at, hence no reprints. However I did half expect this to be a UK version of the Animated Adventures comic that is due to be released in the US soon. Maybe they'll go down that route eventually?
But it's not really a comic at the moment. It's 36 pages (including covers) and only 13 pages are comic strip (one page of "how it all began" and 2 short stories at 6 pages each) |
what store did you get this from?
|
I found it in Morrisons (UK Supermarket). I'd tried ASDA and a local newsagents first and they didn't yet have it.
The cover date says 2nd May to 29th May, so it looks like it may well have only been out for 1 day, so it will likely depend on how often your local shops get deliveries. |
Typical UK comics, about a quarter actual comic and the rest adverts and puzzles. Shame it isn't a collectors edition style comic like Titan and Panini do.
|
I picked this up purely for the bonus trading card,
Great for kids with a nice variety of puzzles |
Even as a kid I hated puzzle pages and that rubbish lol. I just wanted comic strip action!

They had it at a small newsagents in a village near me so if they have it, most places that sell comics should.

Looks like a nice magazine, does it say when the next issue is coming and what free gifts will be included then?
|
According the the page in the back, next issue is 30th May (so it's a monthly magazine) and the free gift is a mechanical claw grabber thing...

That looks so cool, I wish they had it here in the U.S...Those free gifts that come with every issue are awesome!

If it didn't cost so much to deliver to the US I'd happily mail them to you! Will probably end up going to friends children. |
The free girls can ruin the cover too when they are taped on. I remember the good old days when comics in the uk were comics books, not puzzle books with cheap tat on the cover.
The art work is lovely in the strips in this comic though, story was pretty good too and I found the cameo from another 80s cartoon hero quite amusing. The Thundercats comic Panini did last year was good too, far better than Titans efforts with Transformers which now looks like it's drawn by a child. |
