CGI - Ninja Turtles Animation

UPDATE - FINAL URLS

Big Rip Off - Big Blow Out 2015 - Big Break In 2016 with audio

With news of the new show, I'm thinking of doing something unthinkable. Going back to my original idea of animating a FULL episode of the Classic series in CG. One person, doing everything from lighting, rigging, modeling, and animation.

Above is a small sample of seeing how difficult it could be. For those who missed it, we have a Technodrome scene test. Ten Years of building this model results in a final build. And, something that will be reworked, the original series intro in CGI. Second version will work on better timing.

If this NEW intro attempt turns out good, I will work on the first three minutes of a show. I also added a whole bunch of development photos to flickr. Years 1999-2010

Jester 04-10-2011 11:16 PM

That's pretty cool.
Show Intro

Ever thought to do the second theme?
Also the audio cuts out.

Wow that is really well done. Can't wait to see you finish this. That is a lot of ambision. My hat is off to you sir.

Eiko 04-10-2011 11:36 PM

Wow that really neat. :)

oldmanwinters 04-10-2011 11:36 PM

Sweet! I'm glad you are once again thinking about remaking those classic episodes.

BTW, this will teach you how to embed those Youtube videos on the forums. The rules seem to have changed recently.

thank you old man. I thought I finally got it right this time..

As for the episode chosen, I can't decide between The Big Rip Off, which I tried before.....or The Big Blow Out...I think the latter would look cooler. But there are a few major mistakes that always bugged me with the first one that I'd like to go back and fix..

'The Power is back on, but how?' How can you tell? The animators where too lazy to switch the background to a lighted one...

rufus 04-11-2011 10:12 AM

Whoa, Awesome work there. hope you make some more.

'm going to need some help here to improve the April design. What could I do to get her closer looking to her toon self?In scale next to a turtle

Well she looks good besides the colors...they look too..."black light"? Her outfit should be more yellow and less lime, and her hair is a little too neon. I think she had more of a brownish/red hair color, didn't she? I love that Donny, though!

I think your April model is really coming along well! Seems to me like the legs ought to be just a little bit longer; maybe create more distance between her knees and the top of her boots. The arms seem too long to me. Maybe if I could see them laying flat alongside her body, I would have a better idea.

Also make the hair a little less red; it usually colored either brown or orange in the show.

Dude, that is a fantastic improvement!

I see you also rendered some of April's pockets and jumpsuit details, as well as the clothing folds. Your overall progress has been fun to watch over these last few years.

this time around, the texture attempt is with toon render. I will render again with texture from the actual show..

I think April's proportions are just about perfect. I think the face still needs some fine tuning however. I think the chin looks a little too big and wide. It doesn't need much work, but it may benefit from a slightly more cone-shaped design.

EDIT: or maybe egg-shaped. I can't really express it. Maybe experiment with some slightly largely eyes too, as those will benefit animation.

Slightly Bigger Eyes...Slightly modified face. April on right has colors sampled from the first episode...

Man, that's almost spot-on from the cartoon! The colors are terrific!

EDIT:

You might wanna add a zipper seam down the front of the jumpsuit and perhaps some seams around the shoulders.

rufus 04-12-2011 03:49 PM

Whoa, thats some really amazing work. April looks pretty good, love how awesome donatello looks.

Sorry wasn't making fun of u. It jst reminded me of an acid trip is all:lol:

I think u did an amazing job though, really top notch work.

The models are cool, the animation is great and the fact that you have done the intro complete is impressive.

However the actual final images you are showing us can be improved a lot by tweaking the rendering options (and maybe the lightning). Are you using Ray Tracer? Kinda looks as if the Ray Tracing option is off...

I am using Mental Ray.. Unfortunately, I never got beyond basic rendering and lighting. These are all the standard options with nothing changed..

The latest changes. Now only the arms look like they could use a tad bit of work..

Next up, getting an improved color scheme that works for the Technodrome

One thing on April's shoulder jumpsuit seams...

According to the model sheet, it appears the seams should be located below her shoulders rather than above them. I'm guessing it wasn't a consistent thing in the show, but I think it looks a little better like this:
