All of the Talkbacks are being shut down on www.aintitcool.com but there's a couple still active. They're very worth going to, especially this one:

A lot of people already saying goodbye on there.

ProactiveMan 09-26-2017 08:48 AM

Wow.. I haven't thought about Aint it Cool in about a million years. I used to read it religiously in the late 90s, and I have to say at the time, even to a dirty teenage boy, Knowles came off as a bit of a perv.

plastroncafe 09-26-2017 09:01 AM

Yeah, I heard about this this morning.
Reading the goodbye messages from long-time contributors took me aback.

Andrew NDB 09-26-2017 10:00 AM

This is now the only remaining Talkback I can find. Even that one from yesterday has been deleted, and tons of others.

I suppose the question is, if true, why now, why not years ago when Harry was a megastar and probably had more to lose (like money in settlements)...?

Andrew NDB 09-26-2017 04:32 PM

It seems very weird. And it's long past the statute of limitations.

On Sept. 11, it came to light that former Birth.Movies.Death editor Devin Faraci -- who stepped down from the Drafthouse-owened publication in October 2016 after an accusation of sexual misconduct -- has been subsequently employed by the Drafthouse as an in-house copywriter.

The ensuing scandal has cast a dark shadow on the Austin movie institution, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. One Fantastic Fest programmer resigned in protest, Faraci published and retracted a statement, Drafthouse owner Tim League explained his actions in re: Faraci, the apologized, then stated he wouldn't be attending Fantastic Fest.
This is why it came up.

Looks like as of a day or so ago Harry Knowles is back, posting articles on his site again.

IMJ 02-08-2020 11:30 AM

I remember AICN was HUGE back during the initial Marvel boom. Then a couple of years in - like 2010 or so you just stopped hearing about these guys in other sites who used to link to their site.

They were a huge site from like '07 - '10 and then they just fell off the radar completely, I thought.

I figured he was writing under other people's names for the past 3 years anyway, so shouldn't surprise anyone. His sister just mast magically steps in and starts writing a **** load of articles once he leaves? Sure, sure.

I personally can't stand the site. There was a time in the 90s where it was the place to go for leaks and early impressions. When the SW prequels and Lord of the Rings trilogy was under production, etc. That time has LONG since passed. We have a ton of other sites out there that cater to that now, and without the baggage and terrible website design.

He issued an apology now:

IMJ 03-11-2020 09:37 PM

LMAO at 'the public apology'. It's all such bull ****, all of it.

Leo656 03-11-2020 10:02 PM

Christ, that dude looks like if he tried to rape a corpse she would get up and scream for help.

He looks like his f*cking father must have been Pizza The Hut. Holy sh*t.

Dude, when I read this I did that sort of laugh out loud where it sounds like you are gasping for squeaky air, but you are exhaling instead of inhaling.....

Zulithe 03-12-2020 02:33 AM

He can apologize all he wants. He's a conceited a-hole, a creep, a terrible boss that mistreated and failed to pay staff, oh and he looks like he really really smells.

Never forget his disgusting Blade 2 review. Never. Forget.

I please to aim.

Sometimes the only thing that keeps me going is the knowledge that I'm far more attractive than 6 out of every 10 people on average.

Can you imagine if every dude looked like that? Seriously, rape would literally be the only way anyone ever got laid. I can't imagine giving so few sh*ts about my own health or the eyesight of other people, to let one's self go THAT far. Blech.

Coola Yagami 03-13-2020 09:25 PM

So.... is it because he's a fat neckbeard with a platform.... cause it kinda looks like it's because he's a fat neckbeard with a platform.

Now this just occurred to me, that all of these people accused never seem to be conventionally attractive men that seem to be wrapped up in these messes.

Leo656 03-14-2020 05:14 PM

Conventionally-attractive men can get laid without requiring threats of violence and/or a "quid pro quo".

Not that "good-looking" guys are incapable of being rapists, it's just that they generally can get trim without all that hassle and thus it's less likely to see one even accused. Would any woman willingly throw herself at this dude, or Harvey Weinstein, if they weren't being threatened or coerced? The answer, of course, is no. If Harvey Weinstein were a poor person, he'd be a virgin.

There's also the variable of, if a good-looking guy were accused of rape, a lot of women would inevitably sound off with, "Oh, poor you! At least you got to have sex with ______, I'd let them 'rape' me, you're stupid for complaining about it!" I've seen it before. Look at how many women started making "I'd let R. Kelly rape me!" jokes when that whole fiasco started, just for example.

It sounds crazy, but to some women, it's impossible to be "raped" by someone that most people want to have sex with anyway. That's absurd, BUT, it's how a lot of people think. Just like "Men can't be raped under any circumstances, period." ALSO completely absurd, BUT, it's how many, many people - especially women - think.

So yeah, it's a mixture of, "Hot guys don't need to rape anyone because women will throw themselves at them willingly," combined with "Some women won't complain about sex with a hot guy, even if it was forced." Logic need not necessarily be a factor, here.

Yeah, I just saw him pop his greasy head above the sand. Looks like he retracted his 'apology' and put up a new one.

Oh yeah, in the boon of the digital age, around '99 Aint It Cool News was THE place to go to get news and scoops. Not anymore. I def agree it was prob him ghost writing.
