'Clue' reboot

In August 2016, FOX began working on a remake on the 1985 cult classic Clue. Universal previously tried to do the film before FOX got the rights.

Now Ryan Reynolds is attached to star in the film with Deadpool scriptwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick penning the script.

As a teenager I thought this film was hilarious and when I still turn it on the movie still makes me laugh to this day. I'm hoping that this remake pays a lot of tribute to the original. Reynolds could play any of the three male suspects.

My mind is just reeling of all of the awesome people that Ryan Reynolds has worked with who could play all the various characters.

Sam Jackson
Morena Baccarin
Blake Lively
Hugh Jackman
...

I could see Ryan Reynolds play the Tim Curry role.

Just in case no one has even seen the original film, here is the trailer for it.

If they remake the original Clue they better bring their A game; that film is a certified comedy classic

And they should totally have the 3 different endings like the original, and have it spread out to different theaters like they did before.

ranger_scout 01-22-2018 06:17 PM

Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams and Emma Stone are my top choices for Miss Scarlet. I know that in the more recent versions of the game, Mrs. White has been dropped and replaced by a new female named Dr. Orchid. The new character brought diversity to the game. She could still have the same background story as Mrs. White especially because it was a big part of the original movie or they just do something different.

Also, if anyone hasn't seen the original someone reviewed its three endings and that even though the home video version said the third ending is "what really happened", could it actually be the "true ending?"

Spoiler:

My only complaint about the original movie is I wanted to see an ending for every character.
That movie was so good I was legitimately angry that it ended.

MikeandRaph87 01-22-2018 06:23 PM

I enjoy the original movie, but what could be done differently to merit the gimmick of Clue to get a remake and be different and as possibly good?

Yes to ALL THIS.

Shark_Blade 01-23-2018 02:12 AM

The original was a gem, still is.

Don't screw this up, Ryan! :D

drgon78 01-23-2018 05:20 AM

I see no reason to see a remake of a movie they did so good the first time.

Clue had three endings, but a fourth one was also filmed. The directors and producers decided to cut because it was apparently way too dark and even more crazy. The footage is presumably lost forever, but here are some summaries of it.

Also, here's the story about how the original film went from a forgotten flop to a cult classic.

Such a great film. I just rewatched it a few months ago but reading about it makes me want to watch it again.

The writers of the reboot said that there's a chance that the film could be R-rated. That really doesn't surprise me since their previous work includes Deadpool.

Quote:

Don’t be surprised if ‘Clue’ is R-rated… Potentially,” Wernick teased.

“It will have elements of [the original movie], but it’s important that we don’t try and just rehash it,” Reese said. “We want to build on it. We want to take some of what makes it fun and funny, but then we want to do our own thing. It’s about finding that balance. Hopefully we don’t upset the Clue-hounds because there are a lot of them, apparently. We didn’t realize this until we signed up.”

drgon78 05-22-2018 12:20 PM

A R-rated version of Clue would be as good a s a PG-13 version of Robocop or Total Recall.

ranger_scout 01-20-2019 02:21 PM

Paul Wernick, the script-writer, gave an update on the film during an interview the other day.

Quote:

CS: I know you can’t say too much about “Pirates of the Caribbean”, but when it was announced that you guys were involved with that, it raised a lot of questions for me. Like, can Ryan Reynolds do an English accent?

Wernick: (laughs) Well, Ryan’s our muse. We set out to do absolutely everything with Ryan. So we love him and any opportunity we can to work with him, we do. You know, we’re writing “Clue” right now. We’re deep, deep into “Clue” and that’s for Ryan to produce and star in. And his voice lives in our head all the time, so to write for him is always, always a treat.

CS: And are you guys collaborating with him in the same way you did on “Deadpool 2”? Or are you just writing it yourselves?

Wernick: We broke story with him, and now we’re just going off to write it and he’ll see a draft relatively soon. And then, I think the three of us will do what we did on “Deadpool,” which is roll up our sleeves and really dig in and make it distinctively the three of us. But generally speaking on this one, it’s us. Rhett and I are writing the draft and then we’ll bring Ryan into the process, once we have something to show. But he was very, very involved breaking story and coming up with character and all that fun stuff before we set off to sit down at our keyboards.

CS: And that’ll be in the same kind of Agatha Christie kind of vein or is it updated? What is the angle?

Wernick: Well, it’s a remake of the Tim Curry “Clue” movie that was based on the board game, the Hasbro board game. I think it was in the mid-80s the movie came out. It really was a murder mystery comedy, I would say a comedy murder mystery. It was a comedy first and a murder mystery second. We’re trying to recapture that tone of being funny and outrageous. It’s not “Deadpool,” because obviously, “Deadpool” is its own thing, but I think the three of us bring that unique tone and irreverence and pop culture. It’s going to be very, very fun and outrageous and we’re having a wonderful time writing it.

I really hope they base it on the real version of Clue and not the modern remake of the game where they're all spies or something. That sh*t was way too overcomplicated for what the game is.

They did a series of comedic children's books in the mid-90s that nailed "Clue" perfectly, and were a genuine laugh riot. That would be a good place to draw inspiration from.
