Marvel moving forward with a solo Black Widow movie

Still early stages but Marvel wouldn't leak this news if they weren't going to make it.

They better do it soon, Scarlett Johanson isn't getting any younger. Pretty soon she'll be too old for the role.

If James Cameron can make more Avatar films with Sigourney Weaver and a new Terminator with Linda Hamilton, anything is possible.

CyberCubed 01-10-2018 06:33 PM

The difference is she has a lot of action scenes and has to remain in tight fit safe. Sigourney Weaver spent most of Avatar sitting on a chair near a computer desk.

Booooo. Black Widow sucks. Scarlett Johannson sucks.

You mean with her voice?

Ah, I see what you're really thinking about there, bucko.

Even so, she's still a recognizable actress of a certain age who has done some high profile action roles. Schwazenegger still does this stuff, and he's pushing 70.

I'd rather hear Weaver's voice emote and, you know--act--than watch that blank faced piece of cardboard who plays Rey in the new Star Wars movies.

Well. At least they're actually getting around to it, I guess. Years too late and with all the hype that could have accompanied it gone.

I don't know about "sucks", but it still baffles me that Widow was made a big screen Avenger over... pretty much any other female Avenger ever.

We really don't need a Black Widow movie. But if the story is right, it could be good.

I'll become a true MCU fanboy when I hear about a She-Hulk movie or TV series.

Maybe Disney will buy Universal and they'll get the full rights then

Depends on what they do. If they decide to do a spy thriller, it could be pretty great.

TV series would be most likely if the rights ever got worked out. They could do a fun comedy style thing with her law career and the minor fourth wall breaking. If they just tried to play her as "female Hulk" I think it would work... well, about as well as every time they tried that in the comics.

ProactiveMan 01-10-2018 08:11 PM

They would have to make it better than Atomic Blonde, and I don't know how they are going to do that.

plastroncafe 01-10-2018 08:52 PM

If they made it about Bucky and Widow and the Red Room, it'd be pretty awesome.

raph27 01-10-2018 09:24 PM

I'm excited for this. However, I'm hoping it's set in the present and not an origins movie like most people seem to want. Some flashbacks would be okay, but I feel like BW is a character who's mystery is one of the defining parts about her, and having everything explained out exactly takes away from that. Same applies for the Boba Fett movie. That's also the reason I am really not looking forward to Solo, and hoping that the Joker origin movie is cancelled.

This also all depends on where her story goes in IW. I was hoping this would happen between Civil War and IW. Imagine a movie about her being on the run from the law (since she helped Cap and Bucky escape in CW) but then a new threat makes her emerge from hiding and get her back with the Avengers, setting up her in IW. Guess it's too late now.

Yeah, I'd dig that. Hawkeye should be there too, in some capacity.

Oh s***, yeah. I didn't think of that. Atomic Blonde already did the kind of movie you'd want from Black Widow and would be the one it's compared to.

Except nobody really saw Atomic Blonde. And it was a period piece. I think Black Widow will be fine.

And it's fairly easy to imagine how to make a movie better than Atomic Blonde.

CyberCubed 01-11-2018 01:08 AM

Atomic Blonde was pretty dull except for one or two action scenes and then that lesbian sex scene that came out of nowhere. I wasn't even expecting it because I didn't hear about it online and then I was like..."WTF is happening?" It felt like I was watching some kind of porno.

Maybe, maybe not. I know more people who saw Atomic Blonde than people who can remember Black Widow's name. Usually it's "Scarlett Johansson" followed by confusion as to "why do the Avengers even need her or that archery guy?"

ZariusTwo 01-11-2018 05:28 AM

It's a pity the Netflix Marvel shows can't crossover, because Widow used to be pretty tight with Daredevil throughout the 70s through to at least the 2000s.
