The Luke Cage cast is really shaping up!

Mike Colter is Luke Cage (he'll first show up in Jessica Jones tho)
Also cast is Theo Rossi, Rosario Dawson and Alfre Woodard in unknown roles.
Meanwhile, newcomer Simone Messick has been cast as Misty Knight! :o http://www.comicbookresources.com/ar...s-misty-knight

OH, Juice from Sons of Anarchy is gonna be in this? Cool.

Awesome man, this is great news.

Now how about Punisher, Blade, Howard the Duck, Jessica Jones etc. yet?

Jessica's got her own show coming soon. It's where Luke first shows up. Punisher is in the 2nd season of Daredevil.

Meanwhile more casting for Luke Cage. Mahershala Ali has been cast as Cottonmouth. In the comics Luke was in possession of drugs stolen from Cottonmouth (a drug lord) and was sent to prison (where he got his powers). But it looks like this is a different take on Cottonmouth all together.

There is a teaser trailer for Luke Cage at the end of Daredevil S2. Pretty cool to see to them mimic the MCU with the after credits scenes.

This is interesting. I hope this is true because I want the Defenders to be a part of Infinity War.

Captain America: Civil War could feature a surprising link to Netflix's popular Marvel television shows. Tuesday evening, Disney (Marvel Studios' parent company) provided ComicBook.com with a list of Captain America: Civil War cast members attending the upcoming world premiere next week. Included on the list was a surprise cast member: Alfre Woodard, who was supposed to make her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Luke Cage series.

Woodard is playing Mariah Dillard in Luke Cage, a New York politician who gets caught between Cage and his old enemy "Cottonmouth" Stokes. It's presumed that Woodard's character is an updated version of "Black Mariah", one of Luke Cage's earliest villains in the comics. Although Marvel didn't confirm that Woodard would be playing Dillard in Captain America: Civil War, it would be highly unusual for the actress to play two different characters in the same cinematic universe so close together. If Woodard does play Dillard in Captain America: Civil War, it would be the first Marvel movie reference to one of Netflix's Marvel shows.

Woodard isn't the only Luke Cage cast member that will attend the Captain America: Civil War premiere. Mike Colter (who plays Luke Cage) will attend the world premiere, as will cast members from Daredevil and Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, though they're all listed as "Special Guests."

Huh. Fascinating.

ToTheNines 04-06-2016 02:57 PM

Bad news fellas

Quote:

UPDATE: Well, it looks like we may have jumped the gun on crossover possibilities as ScreenCrush has learned that Woodard won't be playing Mariah Dillard, which means that there will likely be no Luke Cage tie-in. She'll instead be appearing in a small, but pivotal role in the film's opening: "She’ll be playing the mother of an American citizen who was killed during the Battle of Sokovia in Age of Ultron. Her character has a confrontation with Tony Stark where she lays both guilt and blame at him for the death of her son. It’s this encounter that convinces Tony to back the Sokovia Accords that would regulate The Avengers and other “enhanced individuals.”" They also add that Woodard was cast in Captain America: Civil War long before she was cast in Luke Cage, which makes sense considering Civil War wrapped in mid-August 2015 and her role in Luke Cage wasn't confirmed until late September.

Huh. That does make more sense.

I mean, honestly... Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones are all pretty homebound. I don't see any of them doing much globetrotting or Avenging.

NinjaPug 04-06-2016 03:01 PM

So basically the rumors of Marvel TV and Marvel Studios not getting along at all are true.

CyberCubed 04-06-2016 03:02 PM

Good. Not everything needs to be a crossover.

We've known that for a LONG time, Pug. :tlol: Exhibit A: Agents of SHIELD and EVERYTHING about it. :trazz:

I was referring to the recent rumors that Marvel TV wouldn't allow their Netflix characters to be in Infinity War.

Ah, got it. But yeah, I'm really not surprised that division still exists.

And personally, I prefer having Daredevil, Jessica, Luke, and the rest of Hell's Kitchen isolated from the MCU at large. The more you force or weave connections, the more unwieldy something becomes. I want the heroes of Hell's Kitchen to be as streamlined and excellent for as long as possible.

Foombamaroom 04-06-2016 04:46 PM

Honestly, they should be kept separate. It'd be weird to see Jessica Jones not making hardcore dark quips, and it'd also be weird to not see Daredevil breaking people in two. Plus, the whole point of the Defenders is so they can have what basically is the darker version of the Avengers.

Also kinda more grounded. No evil AIs or alien hordes... evil mystic ninjas or Purple Children, that I'm down for.

ToTheNines 04-06-2016 08:26 PM

I was kind of on edge looking for a larger MCU connection during season one of DD and JJ, but this past season was so good that I quit caring. There were plenty of little connections to Agents of SHIELD though.
