The Foot Walks Again script

Where can I find the script for "The Foot Walks Again", the abandoned 1990's film?

Powder 05-05-2017 04:58 PM

I don't believe it's 'out there', exactly. A guy bought it from an auction & to my knowledge has not made it available.

CylonsKlingonsDaleksOhMy 05-05-2017 06:14 PM

I've never heard of this. Was this a concept before the 1990 film that was produced?

d_osborn 05-05-2017 07:22 PM

It was one of the later scripts for TMNT 4. TNM was still airing. Karai, Foot Elite, Venus, Kirby, Spyder (alternate dimension Shredder). Not the best of the TMNT 4 scripts, but it had potential.

It's scanned, archived, preserved, and in safe hands. I was debating on just dumping it out there, but it's much cooler with some additional context. It'll be out there eventually. :)

Ah, when I saw 1990s, I thought 1990. But one of many different takes on a desired fourth film makes more sense...

You're the lucky owner? Congrats.

I'd love to take a peak at it. Glad you're willing to share.

Looking forward to it, hope you'll keep us posted.

It would be interesting to read it one day.

Yeah, what the heck is this? Is this the Hallmark thing?

oldmanwinters 05-11-2017 10:40 AM

d_osborn, if and when you decide to post that (with or without context), I will be greatly indebted to you for your contributions to the fandom!
We had a good time discussing that script and concept art when it was put up for auction years ago!

Oh, man, I completely forgot about the Hallmark project. It always sounded like the weirdest thing to me, considering the channel's target audience back in the day. I remember seeing a few updates about it on the official website prior to the release of the 4Kids cartoon, and I think Laird even mentioned it in his editorials and letter columns of early Volume 4 issues.

So, in regards to TMNT 4 movie there were multiple ideas and attempts to get it into production until TMNT 2007 finally came out. Here's a few ideas/rumors, I remember:

The 1994 "Next Mutation" movie concept for which Mirage did concept art of revised Turtles and Splinter designs, later uploaded to the old "Blast from the Past" website. I'm guessing this was the same project that was going to feature "Kirby" who basically looked like a live-action Slash?

The evolved form of this concept that would apparently be an alternate universe adventure featuring corrupted versions of April O'Neil, Casey Jones, Spyder & Nano-Spyder, Super Shredder, and more Kirby ideas (most drawn by Kevin Eastman or Mike Dooney), presumably titled "The Foot Walks Again" which d_osborn owns a script draft for:

The 2001 project that would supposedly feature Steve Barron teaming up with Brendan McCarthy for more hip and "street" approach to the characters, concept art of which was posted on McCarthy's website.

The rumored "John Woo" R-rated film I heard comic enthusiasts talk about in my college days (circa late 1990s early 00s)
http://thecomicscode.weebly.com/john-woos-tmnt.html

The early 00s Rainbow Studios CGI project that had a demo-trailer made and posted onto the official TMNT website (maybe film, maybe TV series)

The officially acknowledged (by Peter Laird) "Hallmark" film, conceptualized sometime around 2003.

Hallmark? Would the fourth Turtles movie evolved into a TV mini-series since that's what Hallmark are known for?

The Hallmark project apparently did make it to test-costumes!

The Hallmark mini-series was the Barron project! Barron got his start doing Hallmark shows for Henson back in the day. Out of all of the unproduced TMNT movies that were floating around in some form or another, I find this one of the most fascinating. Also, cool little tidbit, Brendan McCarthy was Barron's storyboard artist on the original TMNT. I thought it was cool he had McCarthy work up the initial concept art for the mini-series.

Thanks for the clarification, d_osborn! You know, I think that Hallmark project could have had a lot of charm if they had gone with Henson-esque animatronics in the early 2000s. But such is the stuff of speculation.

Blimey! This probably would have been the TV mini-series event of the year even if they didn't bother with a TV series. Shame it didn't get made.

Original TMNT Cartoon Fan 05-28-2017 06:50 AM

I think the film should've been recorded and released at least.

I actually happen to LOVE this vision for the turtles. Especially following Baron's original film. I think the designs are fitting for the characters.
As bad as the Platinum Dunes films are, I actually don't mind the character designs they went with as much as most hardcore fans. They've clearly taken inspiration from these concepts, which I dig.

I know that in the past, a few other franchises with abandoned movie projects have eventually been brought over to the comic book medium and finished there. I've never cared, but if Brendan McCarthy, Steve Baron, and Kevin Eastman were to team up on this, I'd absolutely go nuts. Make it happen, IDW!

Andrew NDB 08-23-2017 10:28 AM

All right, as long as it doesn't have jingle-jangly accessories over the Turtles like in the Bay movies making it impossible for them to be ninjas and move in silence...

*clicks on link*

Yeah, that's dumb.

Eh.

Yeah, that's dumb.

I guess my thought process is that it's dumb to be geared up like a ninja 24/7

Let them have some attempts at normalcy, family life, self-expression. Then when it comes time to go above ground and do battle, they dress accordingly.

I mean, if I were truly trying to be stealthy, I wouldn't throw on a red, flowing bandana either.
