I figured he might be close to retirement, but I am surprised by the abruptness of this announcement.

AquaParade 02-25-2020 04:35 PM

The timing seems right, like Bob Iger mentioned. Hasn’t he been hinting at this?
The new guy seems very accomplished, but it is interesting to note that he came up with the vault concept.

They should have replaced him with a woman. Shame on them.

Vegita-San 02-25-2020 05:45 PM

a certain disney investor made it his woke point to make me his mortal enemy and my life an annoyance on another forum.

I'ma just gonna leave this here :) and think of irony and karma :).

I can only hope this means better things for star wars. apparently ESPN is phasing out it's 'woke' programming. maybe this is a course correction due to money loss across the board.

I wonder if this is good or bad for Kathleen Kennedy.

TommyT 02-25-2020 06:02 PM

The deal with AT&T is going to be announced soon.

This was known it was going to happen, Iger had already stated it so it's no surprise really. Who knows how his successor will do, Iger was an amazing CEO, he completely turned Disney around when it comes to finances and power, they were doing bad under Mike Eisner before him.

Regardless of what you think of Disney, Bob Iger was very good at his job. I hate what he did to Star Wars for example but I still look at how well he managed the company with tons of respect.

I don't think it's good for her, but it's not necessarily bad either. I don't think Iger was protecting her, more of "Lucas left her in charge so I'll let her run things and tell her how things are run around here." Most likely he would've gotten rid of her if things continued to go badly with Star Wars. New CEO likely will leave her do what she knows best before trying to step in, only if he wants to turn the ship right would he do something but I also don't think he would appoint someone necessarily good.

The stock dropping means nothing, it's perfectly normal for the market to react like this when a CEO leaves, especially a great CEO like Iger. Only reason it didn't go down more is because it was already known it was going to happen so price had already adjusted with that in mind months ago.

It'll recover easily and it'll take a while before the new CEO can either screw it up or make Disney even bigger. More likely things will remain status quo without big changes in Disney for the next few years until the company needs to evolve again and it takes steps to do it.

Except it's not, trust me. I can assure you I have more "insider" friends regarding AT&T than any of the things you might have heard.

I keep waiting for someone whose Dad totally works at Nintendo to add their two cents to the rumors. Just to tie it all together.

Egon1982 02-26-2020 07:56 AM

Good cause Disney is out of control and buying too much things and needs to go back to quality

Always thought it was an uncle...

Egon1982 02-26-2020 11:16 AM

Who else is glad Bob "I wanna buy everything" Iger is stepping out in favor of someone who can bring the disney back to disney?

Fox: "We want to sell!"

George Lucas: "I want to sell!"

A really, really stupid company that is in the position to buy either/both: "We don't want to buy."

Exactly. It's good business. Acquire, Brok, acquire!

Could also be their friend's Dad, too.

Egon1982 03-22-2020 09:08 PM

Why is every post you make a question? It's very strange...
Also wasn't there another Egon guy that got banned or something that we were all discussing via PM?

Leo656 03-22-2020 09:48 PM

Same guy, it was a Temp Ban as I assumed.

That's dumb.

Papenbrook 03-30-2020 11:44 PM

Bob Iger just cut his entire salary. Other executives are also taking paycuts to ensure that their employees get paid.

That's good.
