Post your recent non-TMNT customs

Seeing as how we post TMNT customs in the TMNT toys & collectibles section, I think it's appropriate to post non-TMNT customs here. I'll start it off with my most recent works:

Flowering Cactoid (PS2: Final Fantasy 12)

Chocobot (Gameboy: Final Fantasy Adventure/Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden)

I was just thinking about a thread like this since I'm actually working on some non-TMNT customs for once.

Great stuff. The Chocobot is from the GameBoy FFs, you say? I thought they were a joint venture between Mattel and the Mars company! But seriously, I've never seen one before. That's probably my favorite of 'em all... a MechaWark!

Patraw 07-10-2009 08:11 AM

Chocobot is from the Gameboy Final Fantasy Adventure game (also remade recently as Sword of Mana for the GBA), which is actually the first installment in the Mana (Seiken Densetsu) series of games. Chocobot, NapalmMan.EXE, and Launch Octopus were my three entries for the recent robot/cyborg contest at Figure Realm.com. Sargasso was my entry for the previous contest at the same site (original characters theme), and Flowering Cactoid I made just for the heck of it.

I need to get better pics, 'cause I snapped these off in the wee mornin' hours before I dashed off to work, and they didn't come out as expected - even with compared to other pics I've done with this phone.

Godfather William
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2426/...cb17f2.jpg?v=0
William is a character from a story I once did. He's a yakuza boss in the Northwestern U.S. He prefers to be called 'godfather' rather than the traditional 'oyabun' for some reason.

Parts used:
Foot Soldier (2003, Playmates) Body
Casey Jones (2003, Playmates) Head
Leonardo (2003, Playmates) Swords
Karai (2007, Playmates) Loincloth
Longer hair, boots, and wrist guards sculpted with Mighty Putty

EDIT: BETTER PICTURES!

William is a pretty cool looking character--is he finished? If so, the paintwork is pretty basic; again, I'd suggest some washes or dry brushing to kick things up a notch. The white areas would probably look neat with some kind of pattern on them too (dragons, or whatever). The Yakuza are well known for their elaborate tattoos as well (although they generally cover them in public), that might be another idea for spicing up the appearance on the arms.

Here's another quick one I recently finished, a 'Mammon' from Final Fantasy IV.

Those look great, Patraw! I'm still waiting for some kind of a tutorial from you regarding the creation of these things. :)

Ninjinister: I like your interesting custom as well! He kinda reminds me of a Mortal Kombat character.

Patraw 07-17-2009 08:40 AM

If anybody is interested, there's a Clown-themed custom contest that just started at Figure Realm.com, Click here to learn more.

Wes: Sorry, I don't have any plans to make any tutorials at this time. You can try checking out this international online papier mache art group that I belong to, they have a number of tutorials up there.

Here's another one I finished yesterday, Chuck D. Head from Decap Attack:

Yeah, he's finished. I've got a bit of light gray accented areas that's hard to tell from the pics, but I didn't want to do a wash or drybrush. I'm trying my first wash job on the figure I'm doing now.

His tattoo is... well... telling would be a spoiler XD

Mammon and Chuck are cool. Decap Attack kind of miffed me since it was basically Sega ripping off their own awesome game (Psycho Fox on the Master System), but it wasn't overall terrible. I always thought the face-on-the gut that shot out was creepy as Hell. I like how your figure's more stylized after the in-game sprite than the cover.

Patraw 07-22-2009 09:51 AM

I'm impressed with the depth of your video game knowledge. Indeed, Decap Attack/Magical Flying Hat Turbo Adventure are unofficial sequels to Psycho Fox on the SMS.

Here's another one I finished yesterday, an Evil Clown from Dragon Quest/Warrior II:

Ninjinister 07-22-2009 12:45 PM

Ha ha, I do know some obscure game stuff... but then again, remember that I had no idea there was a Cocobot! I had a Master System when I was younger and fondly recall Psycho Fox and always wondered why there was never a sequel. Even after I learned about Decap Attack and Magical Hat no Buttobi Tabo, I missed the characters from the original. lol, when I was just a wee lad, I even wrote Sega and told them to make Psycho Fox, Tails' long lost brother.

The ol' Evil Clown, eh? Would I be incorrect in guessing that this would be your Clown Contest entry? I like how you used the best of its various incarnations (like the older sprite's horns, but the newer ones' color interpretations).

Patraw 07-27-2009 07:49 AM

It was my original intent to use the Evil Clown figure for the clown contest, but I'm too impatient to wait through deadline/voting so I didn't (the entries are anonymous until the contest concludes, which means I wouldn't have been able to share it on any other sites until the second week of August had I submitted it).

Two more new ones:

The Forgotten One (PC/Xbox: Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil):

Ouija Table/Poltergeist (Playstation: Castlevania Symphony of The Night):

How do you not have a job in toy design yet? That is the coolest thing I've ever seen! I've visited your site more than a few times and I gotta say you just keep getting better and better.

That is the coolest thing I have ever seen.

Mutated Turtle 07-30-2009 03:53 AM

i made a halo blue elite from a star wars genosian solder or something like that and i made a halo red spartan from a starwars clone trooper i dont know how to post pics sorry!

Patraw 07-30-2009 09:17 AM

Ectocooler/GK: Thanks for the comments about Chuck. I'm pretty happy with how he came out, although the skull definitely could be better (I was kind of going for an ancient Incan/Mayan rock look). There's some bandaged areas, like the back, and upper arms, that could have been sculpted better as well. He's a character I've wanted to do forever and finally got around to.

Mutated Turtle: Try using a free photo service, I recommend Photobucket. Once you upload a picture there, you'll find links underneath the images that you can copy and paste into forum threads--that's all there really is to it.

Alternatively, if you've already got images uploaded somewhere, all you need to do is click on the little photo icon when you post a message here (it looks like a little square with a mountain and sun inside it), type your link in there, hit "ok", and the forum will do the work for you, putting the right tags on your image address.

I hope more people will start posting customs in this thread---it's kind of lame if I'm the only one doing it.

This was my entry for the aforementioned Clown contest, and, much to my surprise, I actually took first place with it.

Wes 09-14-2009 03:36 AM
