I was right. A slightly more heroic Han Solo on a planet-sized Mos Eisley cantina.

Dis gunna be good.

This art popped right out of the screen for me like it's in 3D. I really like it. I'm so glad we got so many varied art styles in this 5 part mini.

Palmadise!

Does... Does Ace have stubble on his beak? :o

Utrommaniac 08-20-2017 07:11 PM

That he does...:teek:

Eh, less distracting with him than Mondo, I place fewer expectations on an alien than a mutant.

Utrommaniac 08-23-2017 09:37 AM

So, Ace finally seems to be getting somewhere.

Looking at the witnesses to the trial, I was expecting something about Krang's attempt at double genocide. Most of these seem to be basic war crimes. The only one that might be relevant is Anemon, since that was an actual genocide. Ace's witness account is a little more fuzzy, considering that it as an invasion on Krang's planet. But since we have no idea how Dimension X law works, maybe would be relevant somewhat.

But yeah, let's use a witness partially responsible for one genocide in the trial of another person's bigger genocide. Except for the Empaths, I'm going to point to every Dimension X group we've seen and declare them all f*cking hypocrites.

I'm gonna sound like Mikey, but IDW Ace is awesome!

As a kid, I used to stare longingly at several of the Playmates figures, still in their iconic packaging, in the window of a local shop and Ace Duck was always one of my favorites. Mostly due to the bizarre notion of a humanoid duck impressing my childhood self.

It took me until that panel on the second-to-last page of him staring Raph down with Mikey between them to drive home that this is really happening, that this guy actually made it into the series. And what great art to boot!

IDW can do no wrong!

I think the original Ace Duck in the toyline was created because of how popular ducks were in Disney cartoons at the time. We had Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Donald Duck, then on the WB side you had Daffy Duck, etc.

But then the cartoons never used him, even Nick chose not to use him in their show, so we only really had Archie Ace Duck before this where he was a wrestler for Stump Asteroid. Hard to believe IDW's Ace Duck is really only the second incarnation of him after 20+ years.

I really want the Turtles to take Ace Duck back to New York after this is all over. Let him join the Mutanimals! Seriously, he'd be GREAT in the Mutanimals. :tcool:

Looks like some good ol' fashioned fun. IDW really is king of turtles. "It's time to collect the bill." Love that part!

neatoman 08-23-2017 03:01 PM

"Palmadise", I get it.

Gotta say, seeing one of the old toy mutants depicted as an alien again got me thinking, could that be the solution to "mutant saturation"? Like for example, instead of making Bebop and Rocksteady mutated punks, they're instead natives to the savannah planet?

Balaraphron also got a reference when Ace Duck said he'd blast Hakk-R to there. I'm surprised, you need to dig deep into TMNT lore to know about that.

The art in this issue was great and this actually made me a fan of Ace Duck, a character I never really cared about before.

Utrommaniac 08-23-2017 05:22 PM

So...how did Ace get away from Krang during the flashback? I don't think Krang would have "let him off with a warning", especially if he wanted to prepare for repercussions.

So...what happened? And how did he get to Palmadise?

Here's my full summary and review (and a complete history of Ace Duck) of TMNT: Dimension X #4 at TMNT Entity.

A bit funny to see Ace Duck in a piece of TMNT media actually displaying the personality I always imagined he had when I played with his toy as a kid. Kinda... gratifying? I dunno, but I loved the issue.

I never had the Ace Duck toy as a kid. Always wanted him! :tsad:

"Leo and Don are also present, as they most frequently are in these matters. They will certainly receive a Good Attendance Award at the end of the school year, yessir."

Your reviews are always a treat, man. :tlol:

I was just about to quote that same line

Although I do miss the letter grades you used to give to each issue, Spengler

Utrommaniac 08-23-2017 11:44 PM

Now, I'm not sure if I missed something, but
When you said:
Quote:

As it turns out, Ace was once allied with the Utroms and flew in their air force on missions against Krang.
Ace had been allied with the Neutrinos, not the Utroms. He was part of the Rebellion against the Utroms.

I've just noticed how Ace's wings work with Gargoyles logic. Fold 'em up under a coat to hide 'em.

.

Derp. Yeah, I meant "Neutrinos" and wrote "Utroms" by mistake. Thanks for catching that!
