Flight of the Navigator Reboot Coming From Henson Co and Lionsgate

The Henson Co. is developing and producing the new iteration for Lionsgate.

Flight of the Navigator is ready to soar once again.

Joe Henderson, the showrunner of Fox’s supernatural show Lucifer, has been hired to write a reboot of the 1986 kids sci-fi adventure movie that is now set up at Lionsgate.

The Henson Co. is on board to produce.

The movie told of a 12-year-old boy who is abducted by a UFO and reappears eight years later, at the exact same age and with no memories of what happened. When NASA officials spot a connection between the boy and a recovered UFO and try to ensnare him, the kid tries to unravel the intergalactic mystery while trying to reunite with his family.

Randal Kleiser, best known for directing Grease, helmed the movie, which was released by Disney but made by early 1980s outfit Producers Sales Organization (the company was also behind The Outsiders and The NeverEnding Story).

Disney tried reimaging the title in 2009 — at one point, Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly worked on the script — but that version didn't achieve liftoff.

Henderson's Lucifer is based on the DC/Vertigo comic and airs on Fox. The third season premieres Oct. 2.

Henderson also served as a writer and co-executive producer on White Collar, Graceland and Almost Human. He has an overall deal with Warner Bros. and sold a spec script titled In the Land of Imagined Things to Disney.

Henderson is repped by CAA, Stan Spry at The Cartel and Hirsch Wallerstein.

Maybe they could get Sarah Jessica-Parker to cameo?

Hey, I like the idea of SJP having a cameo. Maybe she could play the mom this time.

But yeah, this was one of my favorite movies from when I was a kid.

I was wondering when they would remake this one.

Not surprised this is getting remade. There's a comic out right now, that has a surprisingly similar vibe, called Birthright.

In it the Brother that disappears comes back as this Conan the barbarian type who was the savior of this fantasy world.

Man this movie was awesome. Here’s hoping the remake does the original justice

I find it interesting that the Henson Co and Lionsgate are gonna do the remake, the original was done by Disney.

with Disney doing remakes of there own movies, I'm surprise they didnt think of this one, but another studio is, I wonder how they got the rights?

Oh that's right, so its still a Disney movie, but I dont get why Lionsgate is involved.

Lionsgate does a lot of franchise stuff. They also seem to be involved in a lot of reboot and sci-fi/horror genre projects. My guess is they have the means and the experience for a project like this.
