You can get lost down a very scary rabbit hole researching pedophilia in the entertainment industry... a lot of troubling rumors and allegations about practices that are far more widespread than one would think. I'm glad these things are coming to light

Same. Hopefully it leads to some changes. This has actually managed to stick for longer than I thought it would, thankfully, and may even lead to a thing or two. It seems like recent events are getting people to question Non Disclosure Agreements, which is a necessary conversation, and apparently a couple states are thinking about passing some laws that prohibit NDA's being used to cover up criminal behavior.

I tend to give Spacey a little bit of credit. He could have easily just said "Nope, never happened" categorically and it would just be his word against the other dude about something that may or may not have happened 30+ years ago. That would have cooled out one way or another. Instead, he admitted it could have happened, thus torpedoing his own career knowingly and willingly. Doesn't make him any less sleazy but what his response was isn't the worst possible one he could have made.

His response was the worst you could make, actually....he deflected from the accusations by coming out and saying he was a gay man.

I don't think so at all. The "Before I forget, let me take this moment to also announce my gayness to all!" addendum is pretty transparent, sure, and a little troubling that he thought he might be able to muddle the allegation under some kind of Cloak of Homosexuality... but it really just is an addendum. An "Oh, by the way, let me add..." I get that that's pretty insulting to the homosexual community, but it's neither here nor there on the actual response to the allegation.

My real point is that Spacey had many options of responses he could make, up to and including silence and he chose one that would irrevocably end his career. When he didn't have to.

as someone said on Twitter, it's cruel to his supposed new community to use his coming out to deflect the accusations. It's going to open up more of the tired old criticisms and conspiracies against the gay community, there are still crusty old assholes that thinks gay equals pedophile.
