2k3 music in SNL sketch?

https://youtu.be/0BEBO5BdAM8

So I was watching some SNL sketches on YouTube when I found this Avatar sketch. I may be wrong but isn't the music they play at one part (1:00-1:24) the music from the 2K3 Series?

What the hell? I definitely recognize that cue. If it's not borrowed or whatever, it's a total rip-off.

That's definitely music from the 4Kids series, no doubt about it. Come to think of it, many cartoons actually use the same musical cues from time to time. I believe studios source those cues from companies that provide music for professional television productions, kind of like royalty free music. I'm surprised that it's not an original cue for the 4Kids series though. Maybe the composer sold it, who knows?

TheSkeletonMan939 10-16-2017 07:26 PM

The reason you'll see like a dozen different composers attached to the 4Kids series is because what I suspect happens is that, like The-Shredder said, a composer will build up a large library of tunes which companies can cheaply license out for use. A more contemporary example might be Teen Titans Go, which doesn't have a "main" composer afaik and just takes whatever they want from two or three libraries.

It likely was not an original cue for the show because then 4Kids would have a stake in its use, or rather, I suppose those rights rest with Nick now. A composer very rarely owns the music he writes for picture.

But yeah, definitely the same cue. Cool!

I heard it in, I think a PRogressive ad a while back too.

I'm amazed the soundtrack hasn't 'leaked' yet.

I don't know what you mean by this. There isn't a single "soundtrack" for the show, as it comes from all sorts of different places. Some cues are custom, others are from separate libraries. If you knew what to look for and where to look you could probably find some music tracks from the 2k3 series streaming on some production music website.

I know I heard another 2k3 track on a commercial a couple of years back. Can't seem to remember.

Also, didn't someone find a lot of the 2k3 music and post it somewhere on the forums? I swear I remember seeing that on here before a little while back.

You're probably thinking of something I did a while ago.
http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=39646

What happened was that some Russian DVD company got music-and-effects mixes for the first 22 episodes (probably for dubbing) and made a fake 5.1 track for those episodes, with the M&E in the two front channels. Not perfect but nevertheless really great for grabbing some nice music.

I thought that was just cobbled together from dialogue less show audio? wasn't a bad job from what i remember

Ive said it many times when I talk about praising 2k3 that music is the only place where it failed at.

This helps my point if its just cheaply licensed libraries that were used.

CyberCubed 10-17-2017 12:11 PM

I liked a lot of the background music in the 2k3 series, I'm not sure what you mean.

It doesn't sound like it was. I never heard that music before or elsewhere since. i've only heard it pop up in the one ad, or the snl skit.

What was wrong with the music? I thought it was generally good, and I appreciated the music editors creating motifs for many of the characters.

ABrown 10-18-2017 11:03 AM

I can't even really hear it with the stupid skit going on. And then I got all distracted by this Harry Potter skit with Lindsay Lohan. Hilarious...

Indeed, 2K3 had a good quantity of themes for several characters and situations. At some point, after a couple of seasons it sounded repetitive, though.

Absolutely... I swear, FF used the same five or six cues in every single episode.

CyberCubed 10-18-2017 01:48 PM

The most overused music was that "fear" music, they played it in almost every episode in Season 4 onward. You know that sound where something mysterious happens or a villain appears. That's the only music cue I disliked due to how often it was used.

It goes like, "Da.....duuuuuuh....daaaa.....duuuuh."

Something like that.

What i mean is that none of the music is not necessarily bad but not memorable. I can't remember a specific theme from that show while I can from the OT, all movies sans the third, the Nick show etc.

Really? The Foot Soldier theme was very memorable.

For you. I remember a whole bunch. Especially that dark ass hip-hop beat associated with Hun/Purple Dragons.
