More evidence that Marvel Studios has won back the F4 and Galactus, Surfer

The Watchers apparently appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2... and they're Fantastic Four characters. I've long suspected Marvel had already struck a deal with Fox since Marvel signed off on Legion and the other new shows... all in the immediate aftermath of Fox's latest F4 flop. There was no reason in the world for Marvel to sign off on creating competitors to its own TV-verse unless they were getting something big back in return. Galactus alone could fuel Phases 4-6 if they wanted to, in a post-Thanos MCU.

Oh, and apparently Stan Lee plays the same character in all of the MCU, lol.

I just saw Guardians 2 and can verify the Watchers appearing is true

The Fantastic Four are rumored to be reforming in the climax to Marvel's big Legacy one-shot due out in fall.

Which in itself is additional evidence to Marvel coming to an agreement with Fox over the Fantastic Four and its ancillary characters. Marvel pretty widely suppressed the X-Men and the Fantastic Four comics when it was clear that Fox wouldn't be playing nice with them and they didn't want their comics to "help" them out.

I'd love it but I don't buy it based on this. Getting approval to use the Watchers isn't the same as the characters you mentioned. This seems similar to Marvel working with Fox to obtain the rights to Ego from Fox for GOTG2. Do we even know for sure that Fox has full rights to the Watchers? I'm sure they have Uatu but the rest could be joint ownership like the Skrulls.

They didn't really agree to anything for Legion and the other X-Men show since Marvel is producing those shows in conjunction with Fox/FX.

Well none of the Watchers in Guardians 2 are directly named, so there's that

Man oh man I hope this is the case. The Fantastic Four are one of my favorite Marvel properties. I love their classic comics but I recognize that translating them to a modern day setting such as the MCU would need to be done... carefully. I do have plenty of ideas of how it could be done, to strike a balance between the 60s comic camp and more modern sensibilities, so if this proves to be the case hopefully the writers do too. Fingers crossed

I kinda feel the F4 have been burned so many times, they need to slowly cameo in another Marvel movie first to have the audience say 'now you see, THIS is how you portray the Thing' or whatever and then unleash their own movie. With Tony Stark. Lol.

At a critical moment with Thanos, possibly. Then a Fantastic Four movie late into Phase 4.

Before the MCU was ever a thing and Marvel Studios even made their fist film I had posted a theory in some forum online about how all the Stan Lee's in all the cameos were the same. It was not a very popular post but I liked it.

How does it make sense in the MCU, isn't Stan Lee Hugh Hefner in one of them? I really liked the fan theory that Stan Lee was the watcher that was posted on some blogs a while ago.

What did you score an early viewing?

MsMarvelDuckie 04-28-2017 08:24 PM

Oh gawds I hope tthis is true! Uatu in a MCU movie?! IF ONLY!!!

If true maybe one day we could get the FULL Phoenix Saga storyline- complete with Encron crystal, Shi'ar, and the actual Phoenix itself. Jean deserves better than that crap version from X-3.

sdp 04-28-2017 08:58 PM

I'd prefer to see all these characters with the Fantastic Four but if we get them done right I guess I can live with it. I'd love to see more Fantastic Four rogues in film, they're so awesome. I'd love a Silver Surfer movie, even if it's just Fox copying what Marvel Studios does with their characters like what Sony seems to be doing with Venom.

DestronMirage22 04-28-2017 10:49 PM

It would be a dream come true to see a good Fantastic Four movie set in the MCU. They've been some of my favorite superheroes since I was a little kid, and I've been hoping for years they'd get better film representation.

Here's hoping this comes to fruition.

Cryomancer 04-29-2017 07:29 AM

Glad if true. Not having access to F4 villains especially sucks. I dunno if we "need" a MCU F4 movie, but I think they'd make decent supporting cast?

Bring on Namor and a proper Doom.

discussion on the film production/distribution rights for the Fantastic Four franchise

here's hoping Fox just sucks it up and lets the rights revert back to Marvel eventually

Rumor that Fox is developing another F4 movie with Reed and Sue's kids. Basically just another movie in order to keep the rights without having to do a full reboot.

If Fox still has the F4 rights, it's only to use their characters and concepts as bargaining chips to keep their more successful X-Men franchise afloat.

Andrew NDB 06-20-2017 04:26 PM

Maybe they just gave Galactus and Surfer to Marvel?
