My point's been proven.

Sonic Boom never really grabbed me.

Sonic Boom was actually a good show. It had a lot of meta humor. Poking fun at not just the Sonic lore. But the Sonic fandom as well. It even poked fun at memes too.

Don't care. Still not into it.

( Rumor: )

Spoiler:

Sega might be partnering with Google. In other words, they might be creating projects ( * a new game *, a new console, etc.) together.

( * It has nothing to do with Sonic, though. * )

I ... don't know how to feel about this.

I remember when Sega "partnered" with Microsoft to develop the Dreamcast. Then Microsoft turned around and rolled out their own console gaming hardware with a controller that had some convenient similarities to the Dreamcast design.

Sega is not stupid. They dont release only on one platform and then lost all them money of pc xbox and playstation sales. Next monday starts Games Developer conference and new games will be announced there and it is possible that the next sonic game will be one of them. Google is making a streaming service for games and they have already partnered with games companies like Ubisoft for it. It is not a console. Dont worry sega will continue release their games evrywhere like they do now.

I didn't know of this. Interesting.

The Dreamcast would probably have been more successful if Sega had handled Saturn better. The DC died rather early, so I guess this means it doesn't have that many bad games.

Anyway, the DC had some impact in the gaming industry. Games like Phantasy Star Online, Shenmue, Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi are seen as classics.

Oh, yes, every system has bad games, and the Dreamcast is no exception, with a slew of mediocre titles as well. That said, few of those stinkers were first-party or high-profile developer flops, and the Dreamcast probably has as respectable good-to-bad game ratio as any of the other great systems.

It didn't live long, but I am sure glad I got to ride the train of being a Dreamcast owner and player during its hey-day of 1999-2001. Those were some exciting times, despite the fact that I always knew the system didn't have much of a chance in a crowded console market.

There are roughly 40 games and the series has been around for almost 30 years, they release a new game basically every year on average. Telling me a new Sonic game is coming out means nothing unless I know why it in particular is worth caring about. Did they figure out how to not make the gameplay feel like it's on rails this time or something?

TigerClaw 03-17-2019 07:45 PM

Check out the 1st part of a 2 part Animated Short based on Team Sonic Racing called "Team Sonic Racing: Overdrive".

Its created by the same people that worked on Sonic Mania Adventures.

Wildcat 03-18-2019 12:23 AM

They’ve done a great job with these cartoon shorts. Wish they were a full length tv series.

The announcement of the next Sonic game is not surprising but they had to announce sometime. Forces came out in 2017. I’m sure the next Mario game is in development too.

Papenbrook 04-12-2019 07:42 PM

Hiroshi Nishiyama has just re-joined Sega.

With Sonic, he worked on the Adventure games, among others.

Could we be witnessing a comeback?

Of course not, Sonic is trash. One man can't fix it.

The Deadman 04-12-2019 09:40 PM

Theyre only trash if youre trash at them. Theres been good Sonic games since the travesty that was Sonic 06

Christian Whitehead proved the contrary.

Maybe you meant 3D Sonic?

The state of the franchise is garbage. Sonic '06 and Sonic Unleashed were the last triple A Sonic games, and they were terrible. Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations were better games, but they were visual downgrades and smaller on content and scale with stories aimed at children with cringey dialogue and jokes. Lost World had the good sense to change up the formula and slow things down, but it was exclusive to a console nobody bought and those who did play the game cried that it wasn't boost formula. Now we have the mediocre Forces which is proof that Sega has given up on Sonic and is now just trying to appeal to children with how much the game plays itself and how short it is. They even shoehorned in Classic Sonic in hopes that they can still reach people with nostalgia which seems Sonic is all about these days. Nobody knows what Sonic is anymore and Sega certainly doesn't care.

Papenbrook 04-26-2019 03:20 PM

Sadly, I would have to agree with your assessment, Turo. :(

Sonic has been sucking since '06 - maybe even earlier than that. Sega doesn't know what to do with Sonic anymore.
