Yeah I never gave any of this a second thought as a lad.

I have that poster but it's the regular red... unless they made two versions?

Pretty sure I had seen the Dark Horse minis and had one of the role playing books, as well as a calendar, and so knew that that's how they looked in the comics (which I hadn't read or paid much attention to).

ABrown 09-21-2017 12:15 PM

I think the 1989 Nintendo game had more in common with the original comics than it did the original cartoon, and the cover being one of the reasons why. I consider the first game to be the comics game, and TMNT II: The Arcade Game to be the cartoon game.

This should be a war crime.

I think the Nick recreation of that artwork is wonderful, I like it a lot.

This isn't the first in the series...

I liked it a lot too. The artists who drew the originals were...surprised when I showed it to them.

Why...? o.O

ProactiveMan 09-22-2017 03:45 AM

I don't know if I had read the Mirage stuff when that game came out - I don't think I had because I remember seeing that panel and having a moment of realisation. The thing is though, there was a lot of weird variation in merch at the time, so I wasn't confused by the red masks any more than I was by the different skin tones on the figures.

Yeah like I said, felt bad doing it. But I enjoy doing terrible mask swaps now and then. I did an all reds and no pupils edit of the Ninja Rap tape at some point.

I don't think I had an experience of either the Mirage series or the first video game's boxart back then. That being said, I always was bamboozled by how the video games featured the turtles fighting more like actual ninjas against villains that were competent, and the cartoons featured...a sitcom.

That's only in the PAL/USA versions

If you live in Poland/Russia/China and had and knew the japanese who would be shocked as to why:

-There's no Krang
-Why is April Splinter's dauther
-Why the TMNT theme isn't played

The reason the other is becuase...the show was beggining to air in japan, so Konami mixed the comic (hence why Turtles having no pupils) and cartoon (Splinter being human, Rocksteady, Bebop, Footclan, Technodrome) into one, and a japanese feel to it

Not accurate at all.

Prowler 10-01-2017 03:13 PM

I was like 5-6 years old when I first played that game? I had noticed indeed that the Turtles all had red bandanas like Raphael did in the FW cartoon... but I didn't really care. I was, you know, busy playing the game. Well, ore mile trying to play the game since it was hard as hell and I kept dying.

Of all the things wrong with that game, its cover certainly isn't one of them.

sdp 05-02-2019 09:41 AM

As a kid I just thought it was an artistic choice and that because it was dark and they were getting that bright light shone on them which caused all the bandannas to look red. I also thought the thing shining the light was the Technodrome or Turtle Blimp.
