Video Game rights - what's the story?

So..

Why can't we get all the tmnt games worth releasing in a compilation?

By that, I mean,

TMNT 1-2-3 on nes.
Turles in Time TF's SNES

Arcade 1 and 2.

Gameboy 1, 2, 3, TMNT (Movie), 4Kids Games.

Gamecube 3D games. TMNT1/2/3

those are the only ones i remember worth owning.
I just wish someone would treat the tmnt with at least a LITTLE enthusiasm and respect. this should have happened a long time ago by now!

If the NES Classic Edition had the trilogy, I'd sh*t. I bet I could beat the first game if saving progress was an option.

Maybe one day, Konami will realize the potential profits are worth the rights negotiation. Hopefully, they can secure the usage of original Turtles in Time arcade music next time.

Even without game save, you can do it. You have my support.

How is this hard to understand, Vegita-san? TMNT is a licensed property since its not a videogame franchise. Other companies can't release different publishers games.

TMNT changes license holders to whoeever wants to make a new game. The current license holders do not own the rights to the classic games, only Konami does. So they can't be re-released.

I seriously can't believe people don't know this.

Because some of those games, even if they could be re-released, would more than likely go onto the digital store of the console they debuted on? Like you're never going to see the original NES TMNT game on anything else because that was a Nintendo game.

Seriously, I'm really good at the original NES game and play through it from time to time just to relive the joy of beating it. Lemme know if I can give you any help!

CyberCubed 01-06-2017 05:16 PM

I've beaten the NES TMNT game many times, I think the first time was when I was around 15 or so.

The Technodrome level is hard as hell, both to find it and deal with those ice guys with jetpacks. Shredder can also kill you in 1 hit.

I would love to see a new company do a retro themed tmnt beat em up in the vain of the nes games. A game that has a similar look to say Shovel Knight with a blend of 8 and 16 bit graphics could be cool.

As long as its done in the 80s TMNT or IDW version, and not the Nickelodeon version.

What, in re-releasing TMNT 1-3 from NES? Like 4 people would buy them, and they're all probably on this forum.

Powder 01-10-2017 03:51 PM

The original NES game was on the Wii's virtual console store for quite a number of years.

If you must know, I was thinking more along the lines of the original Arcade game and the SNES port of Turtles in Time.

I'm so glad I bought it before the license ran out, only reason why I still haven't packed down my Wii when I also have the WiiU.

Apparently the refurbished "Turtles in Time Reshelled" didn't even curry enough sales to warrant Ubisoft bothering to renew their license with Nick... I don't wager literal ports of those would do much better. I think they even slashed their intended price before it came out because they only had like the same 4 guys pre-ordering it.

The Deadman 01-10-2017 05:36 PM

Hilarious to think only 4 people would even be interested in a re-release if one were even offered.

Coola Yagami 01-10-2017 07:59 PM

Idk I'm sure lots of people wouod have loved both tmnt arcade games in a 2 pack deal. You forget people didn't like Re-Shelled because it wasn't the original. It was a modern remake noone wanted when everyone preferred the real thing. Re-Shelled wouod have sold more if it included the original TiT as a bonus.

that's because it was bat **** terrible.

The graphics where ok and the voices where nice. but the game play was horribly teedious and badly controlled.

He has his own tastes (which you are exaggerating) but those have no bearing on his perception of how the fandom works. If you're gonna mud-sling, at least be right.
