April in Secret of the Ooze

I never noticed just how little April does in this movie. She's basically just window dressing for most of her scenes and considering how much she's in the movie, she has basically nothing to contribute.

It's kind of telling how detached she is in the story when you can remove her only real scene from the movie (her at work arguing with her boss about following up on TGRI) and it wouldn't change a single thing. She never ends up following up with TGRI beyond that scene. And the only information that she recieves from Donatello (informing her that Raph is missing) ends up being a moot point since Keno comes running to her to tell that anyway.

Everything is just happening around her.

Her last line of dialogue in the film is "But you guys don't stand a chance!" and that comes with still another half hour to go in the movie. We don't even get a little tag scene at the end with April in the sewer with Splinter when the turtles come back from the showdown.

Not sure why I bring this up to be honest. Just never really noticed it before.

Seems like a missed opportunity to me.

She basically functioned as a news reporter at the beginning of the movie, and friend in the latter half. That being said her scenes with Keno when he first enters her apartment are her best scenes in the whole movie. "I do a little chucking every now and then."

I'd rather that than her being on missions with combat skills.

No matter what is said is said about Paige Turco, she is miles better than Megan Fox and I have no complaints about her acting (only a script which didn't give her much to do in the film). Atleast she got a somewhat bigger role in Tmnt 3.

The bizarre realization that I'm now older than Paige Turco was when she was cast in this movie, whereas when it first came out I was only like 7 years old and saw April as this adult mother figure. Now she looks like a woman you would date.

They made up for it in the third movie, if that helps.

Wonder if they'll do a 1/6th of this April?

I used to hate that, but now? ...yeah, no, still hate it. Just used to it, I guess.

Which is probably why her performance felt much more energized there than it was in Ooze.

I feel like any part she could have played later was taken over by the scientist. Like at the club, she could have shown up, and grabbed the canister of ooze etc, but the scientist was already there and played that role so she would have been a bit of overkill at that point. It's a shame. She wasn't a bad April but I really wish it would have been Judith Hoag. That said I do like her performance in TMNT III a lot.

Yeah, I watched Secret of the Ooze for the first time today (had only seen bits of it as a kid) and I noticed April doesn’t have much of a role in this movie, especially in comparison to the other ones. Definitely a wasted opportunity.

I can't see why anyone cares, honestly. April shouldn't do too much. Too often the turtles lose spotlight in their own media.

In complete agreement there.

It's interesting about the OP dislike of April in the movie, the scenes between her and Freddy as well as the aftermath are actually disturbing. I mean before he gave her his masters message what did he do to her that left her so shaken afterwards? Say what you will about April not being involved more in the action but the drama aspect was handled pretty well.
