Thought this would be a good spot to post any concept art from the movie that was found. Personally, i love seeing the "what could've been" aspects of movies.

While not super-different from what we ended up with onscreen, I think these designs are much more palatable. The faces are much more reminiscent of the classic design and they athletic and intimidating without being over-the-top Hulks with shells.

Not crazy about Leo's beak/eyes, but otherwise I actually dig these.

I definitely liked Leo with the sandals more than full boots.

Cool post! I noticed that the Raph concept in the Visual Guide was dated around the same time as the Blue Door script. It seems like the basic design of the turtles didn't deviate much since then.

Has there been any word on an "art of" book for the new movie?

Man, I actually wish they had gone with those body types more. They have the write athletic/martial arts build to me.

They eyes are horrible, but the size doesn't seem terrible. Can't really tell though.

Yep, I love the designs.

the used designs have definitely grown on me, but i do like the leaner, more slender looks. even with all the accesories and extra crap.

and yeah...that shredder is facepalmingly stupid. like, really...there IS something worse than the armor design used on film.

More likely it'll be:
"And I thought the ones we got were bad....."

gotta agree with this statement. These look down right horrible. makes you thankful for what we ended up with.

I suppose those who want a more animal-like TMNT might go for that a little more. If they also like them looking like aliens.


Annnd... just like that, as if by some strange movie magic, the guys we ended up with are a heck of a lot cuter by comparison.


Edit: Those feet... did they accidentally start looking at deer feet?

These are awful. Interesting as other alien creatures, but not for the TMNT. There's virtually no character whatsoever in the faces.

They look more like salamanders than turtles

Jeez, how can there be pitch designs that looks worse then what we got. They barely look like humanoid turtles, and more like creatures kinda resembling turtles...

There's some interesting ideas in the 2D art with their heads, but the Zbrush images completely no sell it. Their proportions are weird, and they aren't't very "turtle semi-realism" with those torsos.

That was... awful.
Like, the worst thing I've ever seen awful. Who thought that was a good idea? At ALL?! Good thing it wasn't approved. That would've been terrible.

Well it's bad but it's not as creepy as the "human faces on turtles" look they went with.

I donno, the test render invokes some similar issues. Now imagine Noel Fisher's eyes and mouth on it while saying. "She's so hot, I can feel my shell tighten."

This stuff is garbage. Even worse than what we ended up getting.

Although... I could kinda see these working as enemy alien turtle-like beings our Turtles are trying to save the world from in a sequel. (Go ahead, name one Slash. lol) Earth Turtles will kick your shells.

This was what the artist pitched but ultimately not considered at all by the producers, even the artist didn't land the job.

Its like the artist tried to incorporate a more Turtle like design, Glad they went with the more humanoid approach.

I kinda like those faces better :lol: they look more like Turtles, but the body yuck!

Yeah, These rejected design look more like Turtles, The problem is, They aren't pleasant to look at. I'm glad they stayed with the traditional designs and making them more humanoid.

Doesn't mean I still have to like what we ended up getting.

I have no problem with the faces, they're ugly because they're mutated Turtles, the more I look at it the more I want those faces, they actually look like real Turtles.

Maybe for the character of Slash...but not the Turtles.

Worst designs in anything TMNT related BY FAR!

Interesting, to say the least. There is some potential in there, somewhere, but wow, quite the departure.

The designs we have now aren't pleasant to look at.

I'd give these designs credit for actually taking a genuine risk of doing something truly different even though it's not to my taste rather than awkwardly trying to create cute turtles which still look huge and badass and dressed in gear designed to sell toys.
