Freeman's Collection

Well, it's been a while since I joined the drome and even though I'm not as active as I'd wish to be (mainly because sometimes I find too hard to make clear my pov expressing myself in english AND because of lazyness ^_^U) I think the time has come to share my collection with all of you.

The main theme on my case is to portrait as many incarnation of the turtles as possible. Yet sometimes I find a series is not aesthetically appealing enough to put may hands on it.

As I live in Spain and we don't usually have access to basements here unless you are insulting rich (you guessed, not my case) the space issue is also a matter to have in mind when building up my collection and having it displayed.

Right now my figures take most of the walls in the guests room/computer room of my flat. We have a glass cabinet in the living room but I have non-tmt stuff there too (guests like my varied cabinet).

Without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, here is my humble collection.

https://scontent-mad1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...69&oe=568BC4F5

Could not start with any other set than the Playmates Cold Cast Statues. Of course Donatello is yet missing (note the "YET"), but I'm determinated to resolve that sooner or later.

https://scontent-mad1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...be&oe=56CF1FF5

Next I should mention are more emotional and less Holly Grial, but in any case some figures I could never take away from me: the turtles I used to play with when I was a kid. Funny thing is that every one of them is from a different set, and maybe this marked my intention to get as many different turtles version as possible.

https://scontent-mad1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...17&oe=56CC3220

As some of you may already know, I like to have my figures in their original blister. I know toys are suppossed to be played with, and I really can't wait to become a father and try to pass on my turtle love to my kids and see them play and bite their figures, but as an Advertising proffesional, the original package and overall toyline design add some facet to each series that I want to keep for the sake of variety. Let's go with my boxed turtles.

Now for the Nick series. I tend to limit myself just to the turtles, but these came as a birthday gift from my GF who got me all four turtles, Splinter, April and Shredder. She did not buy Krang and Foot Soldier because they were "too ugly", so I had to track those two for a few month and therefore complete the "10 back" series.

Funny story: the Raphael she got for me had a terrible paintjob on the face bandana. She perfectly knew that I would not accept such a thing, but there was no more left on the store and my birthday was to come, so she bought it knowing we'd have to go back to change it for another Rapahel the very next week. When we got to ToysRus the casher thought that I wanted another turtle, she could not understand that I could want another specimen of the exact same toy

A few months ago we visited Japan ( a country everyone should visit a least once to have and everlasting memory of what politeness and social etiquette should be) and there I found some figures I could not resist to because they all had japanese blisters. With my "only turtles" promise broken, I can only expect worse from now on...

Dogpound, Fishface and Mousers
https://scontent-mad1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...01&oe=56958A71

Also in Akihabara we found a little shop carrying only american merchandise, from Ghostbuster vintage figures to Kellogg's Tony The Tiger plush toys. There I got this

Throwback funky action figures!!

These are the Wacky Action series that were found at a local toy store in their original 198X warehouse box. All are in fantastic conditions and I am considering to have them graded.

Karma has been nice lately with us TMNT fans and after many years of oblivion we are again target of toy industry companies.

I could not resist myself to this set when it came out, and I even did a direct order to Japan with all the extra shipping and custom fees and everything

Revoltech Series
https://scontent-mad1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...11&oe=569FA5A0

I dig how Donnie looks on that pose :D

Mikey loves pizza!!!
https://scontent-mad1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...3e&oe=5697384B

We are also lucky that not all turtles sets are as expensive as the Revoltech.

Next are some very special figures I was very lucky indeed to get for free.
I entered on a little facebook official TMNT fanpage contest where I had to tell where should turtles live and why. I wrote an eloquent little paragraph about how much they's love japan, the ninjas, the sumo wrestlers, karaokes and arcades and among many other goodies I got these promotional Nick Turtles. Too bad I only got 2...

Getting into paper stuff, we first must take a look at the Panini Ninja Turtles album. Both my parents were teachers and I was taught to take care of my things carefully. I got this album on a street market, with all the stickers but haf to place them all myself. Proud of the job.

Adulthood brings some interesting money access that allow one to go for thing could not as a kid. As I've mentioned in the previous post, my parents put their best to teach me the value of money and did not waste money senselessly on toys or comics me and my brother were going to abandon short after.

As I was too young to read the origianal Eastman & Laird comics, I had to wait until Norma published them in Spain the really have a chance to know the original material

TMNT Original Comics - Normal Editorial

Also have this reprint of issue 1
https://scontent-mad1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...c2&oe=56CAD4E7

IDW brought us some fantastic art and adventures and I'm really happy I recently also add this great series to my collection.

The Secret History of the Foot Clan

Freeman 10-08-2015 03:51 PM

I wanted to keep the best for the end. On my unforgettable trip to Japan I also found a japanese version of the IDW Vol. 1, but these came with an extra surprise: a B/W reprint of the original Eastman & Laird #1.

https://scontent-mad1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...f6&oe=56860799

And finally, the biggest treasure of my collection after the cold cast statues that also comes from Japan.
Jed Henry and David Bull have created a series of art print called "Ukiyo-e Heroes" that you can see here.

The ukiyo-e is a style of art printing first carving the art on a woodblock to after reproduce as many copies as desired. This process requires both a great artist and a fantastic craftman. You can see Mr. Bull working here.

As you can figure out, we visited his workshop in Asakusa and brought this print with me

"Trouble Afoot" by Jed Henry & David Bull
https://scontent-mad1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...0c&oe=569B3FEA

You can even see my happy face here ^o^
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...152b4e2bfe6c92

If you like his work go ahead and get some prints. These are not extraordinarily expensive, all are handmade and they offer a fantastic customer service.

Great collection, neighbor. It's very varied, and it's nice to see toys from different eras, art, comics and shower gel in the same collection. It would be nice to visit you and see the collection in person, probably one day it could be possible. Until then, keep collecting!

Plasticplayhouse 10-09-2015 06:31 AM

great collection man! nice to see you're still around too.

bushido 10-09-2015 07:31 AM

:teek: Amazing collection man !

Metropoliskid41 10-09-2015 08:43 AM

Very neat collection dude! Sounds like you had fun in Japan!

HallamSpaceCadet 10-09-2015 05:24 PM

Great collection! Love that you show the Turtles you loved from childhood. I know exactly how you feel. Raphael Space Cadet will always be my favourite, I remember bringing him home age 4. Slapshot Leo too from the original line, he may be one of the worst TMNT figures ever made but he will always be a favourite of mine.

TheCanadiandrome 10-13-2015 02:29 AM

Amazing items dude

Freeman 10-13-2015 02:46 AM

Thank you guys! I'm glad you enjoy my selection this far :D

Gracias! I wish I had more space to have everything in display at the same time... I haven't posted the TMNT (2007) movie figures that I also own. They are on my other flat as I didn't move everything here (and those figs are not thaat cool either). I'll put my best to make this grow ^o^

As I said, my parents taight us well and wouldn't waste too much money on toys. I had one villian figure. ONE. And it was Skeletor. The only extra figure I had when I was a kid was Usagi Yojimbo, wich I'm afraid I have lost track of but it never felt like the Usagi from the Sakai comics, so I had confronted feelings...

These turtles will always be in my collection

Freeman 12-17-2015 04:03 AM

Back-up coming!!

Found these little friends at a local supermarket for 5,95 each, so with my GFs blessing I got some figs I had missing in my Nick collection

https://scontent-mad1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...71&oe=56E10431

As I've got some Nick figs in japanese edition, I'd be missing Leatherhead (cool), Kirby Bat (ugly), Snakeweed (ugly) Baxter Stockman (cool) and Rahzar (cool/ugly) to complete the first three waves (not counting battle shell).
