Many girls actually do think a lot about motherhood and child rearing from a very young age. The toy and doll companies simply capitalize on market demand. I'm not sure "brainwashing" is the appropriate term, regardless of one's views on societal norms and traditional concepts about gender roles.
But yeah... these Water Babies do actually creep me out... as did all baby doll commercials I sat through in between cartoon segments back in the day.
