Eye of Sarnath Arc: Should the Klunk reference stay or be Pop Culture?

Episode 7: The Incredible Shrinking Turtles
Written By: Larry Par

Cast:
@James Avery: Shredder, Rescue Worker
@Townsend Coleman: Michaelangelo
@Cam Clark: Leonardo, The Sarnath Alien
@Pat Fraley: Krang, Burne Thompson, Baxter Stockman, News Reporter
@Barry Gordon: Donatello
@Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil
@Rob Paulsen: Raphael
@Peter Renaday: Splinter

Mistakes:
1. When Leonardo holds his nose to jump into the garbage, his teeth are red
2. When the Turtles are hiding behind a trash can, on their way home, the top of Leonardo’s head is blue and the place where his bandana is supposed to be is green.
3. Donatello says “There’s gotta be an easier way to get home than this,” but he’s colored blue.
4. Again in this episode, Michaelangelo goes from carrying one pair of nunchucks to two and back again.
5. While in the jar, the Turtles weapons disappear and reappear.

Pizza References:
1. Michaelangelo’s Shredder disguise is made of old pizza tray
2. Michaelangelo: See if that gizmo has a setting for food, bud. I could use a pizza break.
Raphael: Will you cool it with the pizzas, we’re after something big!
Michaelangelo: Well, alright then. Just make it a family size pizza!
3. Four mini Turtles and one huge slice of pizza, enough for everybody. Maybe.
4. When the tiny Turtles are attacked by the fish, Michaelangelo swears of anchovy pizzas. Raphael, ever the optimist, says Michaelangelo may never eat another pizza ever.
5. The Turtles receive tiny pizzas at the end of this episode, an example of Splinter making a funny.

Pop Culture References:
1. The title of this episode is a reference to the films The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) and the Incredible Shrinking Woman (1981).
2. Raphael references Custer’s Last Stand when Leonardo calls for the Turtles to stand their ground.

Wacky Inventions:
1. Alien Crystal Detector (Sarnathometer) Mark 1
2. Heat Seeking Turtle Scope

Notables:
1. The first episode of the “Eye of Sarnath” 4-parter.
2. The first use of the “girlish grunt” is in this episode, when the Turtles face Shredder.
3. Bebop and Rocksteady do not appear in this episode.

Episode 8: It Came from Beneath the Sewers
Written by: Larry Parr

Cast:
@James Avery: Shredder
@Townsend Coleman: Michaelangelo
@Cam Clark: Leonardo
@Jennifer Darling: Irma, Mom?, Boy 2
@Pat Fraley: Krang, Baxter Stockman, Carnival Owner
@Barry Gordon: Donatello,
@Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil, Daughter?, Boy 1
@Rob Paulsen: Raphael
@Peter Renaday: Splinter, Reporter

Mistakes:
1. When the Turtles and April are riding in the van to find the fragment, the wrist band on the hand Donatello holds the Crystal Detector comes and goes.
2. Leonardo’s wrist and elbow pads are missing while he ‘s driving right before the Turtles and April go into the carnival.
3. When the Turtles pass the kids with the fragment, their teeth are colored red.
4. When Michaelangelo pulls out the mini ladder while the Turtles are clowning, his wrist band is missing.
5. Before Shredder jumps the kids with the fragment, their skin tones are switched.
6. Shredder, earlier in the episode, says Baxter threw out the fragment from the previous episode and asks Krang to help him find it, leading to the kids who found it. When Shredder and Baxter return to their hideout, Shredder test the crystal to see what its special power is, but in the previous episode we learned it causes things to shrink (and possibly the exact opposite, grow like in the case of the plant in this episode). Wouldn’t Shredder have already known this and not need to test the fragment?
7. When Shredder uses April’s Turtle Com to contact the Turtles, it’s not the compact style, but the same style as the Turtles carry.
8. While on the Turtle Com with Shredder Donatello’s teeth are red.
9. While Raphael is shooting the alien plant from the Turtle Van, Donatello turns down an alley, and Raphael’s gear turns orange.
10. When the alien plant, grabs a trash can to dump on Leonardo, a pair of feet are seen coming out of the bottom before Leonardo is hit with the can.
11. As Flora, Michaelangelo’s belt ties disappear and reappear.
12. While fighting the alien plant Donatello is seen floating in midair, thanks to reused stock footage.

Pizza References:
1. When the Turtles arrive at the carnival, Michaelangelo hopes the fragment is found near a pizza stand since he’s “so hungry [he’s] hollow”.
2. While debating a plan to rescue April, Michaelangelo mentions a pizza break to help him think, which lead to the Turtles deciding to come to April’s aid dressed as pizza delivery boys.
3. At the end of the episode the Turtles scarf a pizza made with “everything except green veggies.”

Pop Culture References:
1. When Shredder tells the boys with the fragment he’s from “Dimension X, in a far off galaxy.” They respond that they aren’t scared since they’ve seen every episode of Star Trek.

Notables:
1. Krang recalls Shredder to the Technodrome to examine the crystal fragment at the beginning of this episode.
2. Bebop and Rocksteady do not appear in this episode.

Episode 9: The Mean Machines
Written by Michael Reaves

Cast:
@James Avery: Shredder, Robber 1
@Townsend Coleman: Michaelangelo
@Cam Clark: Leonardo, Cabbie
@Pat Fraley: Krang, Burne Thompson, Baxter Stockman, Robber 2
@Barry Gordon: Donatello,
@Renae Jacobs: April O’Neil,
@Rob Paulsen: Raphael
@Peter Renaday: Splinter, Vernon Fenwick, O.M.N.U.S, Reporter

Mistakes:
1. Despite being on screen for about 2 seconds, the bank robbers the Turtles thwart change voices.
2. When Shredder grabs the cabbie out of his car, you can see his purple (as opposed to grey) chest. The robe also makes it look as if his mask and helmet are one piece in several shots.
3. Shredder’s communicator is grey (as opposed to purple).
4. Leonardo says, “The machines, they’ve got us surrounded,” but his mouth doesn’t move.
5. Leonardo says, “Did you have to use the ‘D’ word?” in Raphael’s voice.
6. Shredder’s communicator is a hand held earlier, and later is a compact similar to April’s Turtle Com.
7. Before the TNT explodes the Turtles dive behind a barricade, but Michaelangelo and Raphael’s colors are flipped.
8. As Leonardo and Donatello discuss if the Sarnathometer can find the fragment, Leonardo’s belt ties are missing.
9. Donatello is driving the van. April is to his right, then Raphael, and Michelangelo. Leonardo is in the back. We pull in close to Donatello. When we pull out, Michaelangelo is missing entirely. Upon returning from the commercial, all 5 are seated in front, with Leonardo between Michaelangelo and Raphael.
10. Leonardo’s voice comes out of Raphael’s mouth when he says, “Shredder got control of it.”
11. While the Turtles march on foot to Shredder’s hideout, Michaelangelo is holding what looks like one nunchuck handle in his hands.
12. Shredder plans to open a portal with out the help of Krang, yet he contacts Krang to gloat over how soon the portal will be operational.
13. While Michaelangelo’s taking out the Shredder’s video feed, his bandana goes green and his head goes orange and back again.
14. Three Turtles are seen putting on suction cups to scale the building, 2 colored red and Donatello. One of the red turtles talks with Donatello’s voice and his bandana turns green.
15. As the Turtles start to scale the building, Michaelangelo’s shell blinks green.
16. When Leonardo says, “That’s it April, you’d better take cover,” his mouth doesn’t move.
17. Leonardo is shown to April’s right, seconds later it’s Raphael, then it’s Leonardo again, then Raphael.
18. Michaelangelo is shown eating pizza, but he’s playing with a toy robot.
19. When Raphael says, “Oh, another robot!” he’s colored purple.
20. Thanks to stock footage, Leonardo’s mouth doesn’t move when he says, “Get ready!” In fact, you can hear the sound effect for when he draws his katanas but you never see the action, just the Turtles, April and Splinter munching on pizza.

Pizza References:
1. The Turtles, April, and even Splinter sit down to a celebratory pizza.

Pop Culture References:
1. One piece of the Turtles disguise in this episode is a set of Groucho Marx glasses.
2. An Astro-Boy parody is show on the Turtles TV in the lair.3.

Wacky Inventions:
1. Alien Crystal Detector (Sarnathometer) Mark 2
2. O.M.N.U.S (Omnipotent Multi-processing Nexus of Universal Sentience)

Notables:
1. Bebop and Rocksteady do not appear in this episode.
