TMNTA, even as you get to the last issues, doesn't really read like a comic that's lumbering towards an ending. Anything I can imagine still feels kind of forced.

I can see that. Although on the plus side, by the end of the series there were so many characters that any conclusion, even if forced, could have (could eventually?
) pull from many storylines. Fanservice, if nothing else, but still fun.
