From all I heard about
The Patakis, it probably would have left a sour taste in fans mouths, knowing Helga's dysfunctional family problems don't really end and that she and Arnold are seperated over long distances and reduced to a pen pal relationship. Most fans want their story to be resolved and, more importantly, feel it ought to last the rest of their lives.
